TLDR: How does relative skill matter in manager selection, especially when aggregate skill rises, and luck influences outcomes? What’s your perspective? So the OCIO was asked how do you do manager selection ? He said its varied by asset type but at very high level in context of skills “Absolute skill is pretty easy to find these days. The question is whats the relative skill. When aggregate skill level goes up in universe or population luck has disproportionate effect in the outcomes” So i found it interesting and i also want your perspective as well on this
Hi Utkrash, Appreciate your genuine expertise and openess to share your deep knowledge. I start by downloading stock list from NSE and BSE sites, then narrow them down to a few thousand stocks for deeper analysis of their business models and financial analysis. My initial step involves applying qualitative filters, such as exclude PSU, certain sectors, and specific promoter groups. I believe incorporating few strong quantitative filters is also crucial. Could you suggest some clear NO-GO and high quality quantitative filiters which is difficult to manipulate to large extent (e.g., RoE) Also, which sites do you recommend for high-quality quantitative screening? Also, I remember you mentioning that manually filling the financial data from annual report to ensure data quality over using varies screeners. However, at this stage, it's challenging to do so for every stock. If there are high-quality free sites, that's great, but I'm open to subscribing to paid ones if necessary. PS : I know you prefer discussing specific stocks in this session. I'll share one of them next week with my rationale , apprecaite your thoughts... Don't want to ask too many questions in one go 🙂. Thanks!
Hello Sir, recently we studied economics in CFA L1. In relation to exchange rate targeting, we learnt that to arrest the fall of domestic currency against the USD (targeted currency), the domestic monetary authority will sell the USD to buy back its own currency to reduce domestic money supply. But doing so might result an increase in the money supply of USD in the global economy. Wont this increase the US Inflation and in turn again cause the domestic authority to sort of reverse a part of what the sale they earlier did? Q2] If economies around the world start dumping USD and buying back their own currency what will be the US monetary policy react to the same and what will be the further impact on currencies that are targeting exchange rate currency as USD?
1. What percentage of your portfolio is allocated to mid-cap stocks? 2. How do you typically churn your core portfolio? Specifically, when do you decide to sell stocks, Are there any particular ratios or parameters you consider before selling a stock? 3. what is the average holding period for your investments?

Hi Utkarsh , I have recently cleared L2 (20 year old) took up a job in boutique investment banking advisory firm where my job is to prepare pitch decks and financial models of the startup who are looking to get funding where I also happen to interact with the startup founders. My whole firm consist of 10-12 people . I feel that my learning curve is not growing in the firm and the Financial models are not comprehensive . should I stay a bit longer or start looking for other opportunities?
I scored 85% in 10th and 12th and in graduation 78%, and have no experience in job, what are my odds in order to land in top IMA's if i secure 98-99 percentile ?

What's your opinion about the following:
It's easier to pivot from a financial analyst to a generic data analyst role as compared to vice versa.
