    I am a old school dinosaur semi pro who loves to express myself with djing , my homeboy put me on to digital djing a while ago and I have to admit that it took me a very long time to get on board. Finally came to the realization that we are here! Now I am a stubborn serato user and I refuse to change lol again!!!! Lol I have the sb3 and I love ever feature on it but now it’s time to step it up , your tips have me leaning toward the dj 1000 srt , seems like the perfect fit for me, keep the great videos coming , the dj Dinosaur dj community needs this peace n blessing king salute

    Like you say Phil, I don’t really gamble, I no longer smoke, my guilty pleasure is buying gear. I can afford it, I use it and it keeps me out of trouble.

    After carefully researching my upgrade i never look at what's on the market after purchasing. Once i have my working setup I am completely oblivious to any new gear on the market luckily. :)

    Once I retired from playing out and recorded all my vinyl to computer and sold my gear, I bought the Hercules DJ mk2. A bit of a toy I admit, but I was able to knock out mixes on it quite well. After several years I bought a Numark mixtrack but didn't like the plastic build, so sold it on. Then I did a lot of analysis of the lower end market (looking for a small footprint controller for my desktop pc), and with the help of your review videos (on software and hardware) I bought a Denon MC2000 brand new for £150 and upgraded to Serato Pro.
    It's the most sorted controller at that size for my money, and I have great fun with it. It doesn't have pads but I picked up a Reloop Neon for £45 from eBay and I'm button-bashingly happy now!
    My only other wish is that Serato would allow me to map a deck swap so I could access 4 channels instead of just 2, but the Limitation statement is legit; it Does force creativity!
    Thanks Phil!

    “Limitation makes you more creative.” I have a Digital Vinyl System with a pair of Technics and a Rane TTM 56S mixer and I love it! I don’t need or want anything else. Furthermore, everything was purchased used and it’s still working great.

    Great TTL Phil, as always.
    I've got 2 thoughts from this which are related to the subject;
    1) I sometimes I felt under-GASsed when performing with a really cheap plastic mixer - I didn't feel I 'looked' professional enough
    2) Talk about hacking DJ gear would make a superb subject for a TTL or Free Tips video; my thoughts would go towards settings within software and Mapping tricks but perhaps there are other simpler hacks too.
    Thanks as always, DJ Aeioux, Tokyo

      Nice one DJ Aeioux, your first point is definitely a common one we hear - the truth is it does make a difference in some scenarios but more often than not it's only and other DJs that care :)

    I am not a gear addict. I buy a good piece of equipment and I should be good for atleast 5 years at minimum. I got the original ddj sr back in 2014 and didn’t feel a need to upgrade till last month when I bought the DDJ 800. I am glad i did upgrade because the difference in sound quality and responsiveness is night and day from the SR. It is important to upgrade but like cell phones you don’t need a yearly upgrade.

    Everyone likes new things, but lately it’s a great idea to wait until other people test it out before making a commitment. Quite a bit of gear put out is only half completed. Now you’re stuck waiting for firmware and software updates.
    I’d love to spend the 7 to 12k on Pioneer decks, but other things in life are more important.

    The struggle is real all over the music world; guitarists wanting just "that special" axe, synth-heads "need" that new sequencer, "One more Tom, sweetie, I promise."
    Been a sucker of it, myself.

    Always assume you will be selling your gear that you are buying and making sure you wont lose your ass in the process and you will be fine. That makes it easy to try new gear until you find the piece of gear you love

  • @DanielleKingdjdinosaur
    @DanielleKingdjdinosaur 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i like my gear but when i get my kit it has to last and do its job.The only issue might be having expensive tastes but once i have what i want im good for quite some time.If i had the money i might indulge in getting a couple more mixers but im not a big fan of controllers so that keeps my spending down a bit..I will have kit with or without work as im happy playing to the wall.Its my hobby and sometimes my job.If you are good at what you do good gear will make you seem great.If you are bad at what you do even the very best Pioneer system wont do the mixing for you.Sadly many a great dj is ignored while fools that cant even beat match get work because of who they know rather than what they know but they wont last if they cant master the gear in front of them be it a little controller or a fully pro set up.Learn your music ,practice and have fun..
