So good to see Cub get some exposure by someone like yourself. I considered the Cub and have been a fan of what they do for years. Hi Harry. As someone that’s in the market for a good camper trailer, I’m keen to see how the Cub handles high wind conditions with all that canvas and how young Will handles the heat and humidity with no aircon (unless the Cub has on but you didn’t show it). Also at $56k, it’s pretty pricey and comparable (in price point alone) to a Patriot X1-H which apparently sleeps 2-8 people. Ronny Dahl seems to rate the Patriots. That said, if ANY company offered to ‘loan’ me a camper trailer of any sort for a year, I wouldn’t say no either. Just from your brief review, the Cub certainly looks like the ‘real deal’. I really love the amazing awning capacity
I'll be interested to see how you get on with it after some high-wind nights. We went with friends in a similar style camper, and it was all good until the wind came up. Canvas top flapping like mad. Made a real noise. We were camped in our Kombi 20m away, and we could hear it all night, flapping away. They didn't sleep a wink.
Yeah mate can’t go wrong with a forward fold. I’m now very interested to look closer at the cub brand with the fact they’re a hell of a lot lighter then other brand my olds have a Skamper Kamper and bought it because I owned a soft floor version it’s a beautiful trailer and I’ve towed it it’s sits and travels well but is a tad heavier then yours so I’d be very interested to see the difference
I’ll cope with a couple hundred extra KG and save myself ~$20k for something that is functionally identical. Would love to support Australian made but the quality differential these days isn’t what it was and they need to get real with pricing. Interested to see your thoughts on the forward fold design after using it for a while, we love ours. Easy to tow anywhere, quick setup and cooking outside where it belongs.
I have a Cub Escape... awesome camper, love it and wouldn't change it... only 2 issues... 1: EVERY piece of metal in the kitchen, doors, body etc (other than the chassis) had SUPER sharp edges from cutting/stamping. I literally spent a couple hours with a file to blunt them down, after cutting myself several times. 2: Real world Towball downforce when fully loaded - my Escape comes in at around 280KG towball downforce when fully loaded (water in tank, extra fuel/water in jerry can holders, kitchen full, underbed storage loaded etc..), which is prob more than 20% total weight! Most of the weight can only be loaded in front of the axle, very little opportunity to distribute weight behind axle. This camper looks similar - a huge amount of space in front of the axles. But - I still love it, time to set up is minutes instead of hours like our previous soft floor camper. Everything works and it thoughtfully designed.
Hi Harry congrats on becoming a dad. I’ve been a long time follower and love the cooking content. Defo could not justify anything over 25k for a camper. Will be sitting in the driveway 9 months out of a year. Chinese or Aussie made, you pay for what you get. Interested to see how the Prado goes towing it, L per 100, holds 100kms up hills etc? Cheers 🍻
Totally depends on your financial situation and how much you use it. A nice 2nd hand Aussie made camper can definitely be had for $25k. It added 2.5-3l/100 fully loaded towing it (about 14.5-15l/100 on all different terrains- plenty of hills)

ASW will be upset. Unreasonably so. Gets my little family out and about. We have a child with special needs and wouldn't happen otherwise. The blanket "take less stuff" he hammers on about simply won't work. Great news Harry. Always loved the Cub since the early days.
Where do you keep your clothes? That is a massive trailer but there’s bugger all storage inside, same as all forward fold campers.
The under bed storage or a bag
Hey Dyl, me and my man camp where clothes are optional. So who cares sweetie. You are always welcome to come with us.
@@firetofork that is true!
Camping with a little one takes work haha we were scared too untill about 5months old. Defo got to have everything organised and work together. Where does fred sleep? Our two staffies end up inside on couch 🤣.
He sleeps on the floor inside- there is heaps of space down there. The next video has the full setup
I'd like to see this on the beach or trying to go through sand...?
Pretty bloody cool little camper. It's actually really great you got one it's in my top 2 which is a cub camper and the track about campers. I will give it to the Track about camper I do think you can get the thing full setup quicker. But overall its going to be Interesting to see
Quick question where did you buy the 15 dollar stabiliser spanner?
RTM mate
@@firetofork thank you 👍
Hey mate is that weight empty or with water and gear?
1185 empty, about 1450 fully loaded and full of water
Its built properly and it weights 350kgs less, but it also costs $30k more...
@11:50 I cannot see myself needing more. Hhahaha ROFLMAO! Taking a chick and a baby camping. Mate your in for a wake up call 😉
😂😂 I’m so glad all the water is in different vessels. One tap left on and I’m dry as a bone!
I wouldn't be banging on about Australian made the Australian made caravan manufacturers are a perfect example the horror stories I hear all the time is unbelievable
Do you find the imported ones better quality?
@@firetofork the Chinese ones have really improved in the last few years but the Australian caravan manufacturing seems to be an unregulated mess the difference is when you pay 20k for a Chinese camper you are getting good value for money but when you pay 110k for and Australian made caravan and it's a total mess not so good
You’re actually the first person I’ve heard say that. All the repairers I’ve spoken to will only buy Australian made.
I’d also love to see the $20k vs $110k model you’re talking about
I wouldn't go passed an Opus 4 for quality mate.
Wheres youre hat from? It looks like will and bear??
It’s just a Rip Curl one mate. Lost my Akubra and haven’t got around to replacing it
@@firetofork ah crap thats a bit rough mate, the ripcurl one looks good for now though 👌 (although an akubra is obviously the way to go 😂)
Cub do you mind if I borrow one for a year too!!!?
Hi Mike, I'm from Opus campers Australia, we are always looking
to find new passionate traveler's to sponsor. We at Opus believe we make the best off road camper trailer in Australia. Thanks
Imagine forgetting to put your dishwashing lid on 🤣
In my defense, it’s a pop top and doesn’t have a lid
How much does this rig go for?
Starting price is $44k, with all the options this is $56k
How could you do that to your family
Fred was very distractive in the background with the biggest branch he could find
15 mins from pulling up to cracking a beer? No sir... Pull up, crack beer, THEN 15 mins to set up...
Agreed. Tins before tents
Before, during and after... 😉
