When I was a kid, I remember having a Cox Corsair which had "throttle control" and if memory serves the 049 had a sleeve on the engine that would rotate over the exhaust port. It's been awhile; I might be wrong

@@vizerdownI was always the aviation guy; my brother was the car nut. If I recall correctly that was a 56-57 Chevy that was Cox-powered.

Hi , back in the '70s, there was a company in California that made a real carburetor for the Cox " tee-dee"
Engines. It replaced the screw in intake and stock needle assembly.
    There was another company that
Made a " metal front intake ring/nose cover . It replaced that nylon
    Piece.

Cox produced an rc TD 049 and a 09 in the 90s. With a muffler to boot. I have both.

This is just a choke, closing the Venturi off in that manner draws more fuel into the engine making it run very rich. An exhaust throttle sleeve would give better results

The engine also needs air to run... closing off the air will ALSO slow the engine down. Throttled carburetors on ALL engines basically work the same, and have a butterfly that closes off the air entering the engine. It isn't "just a choke". Slowing down the airflow also reduces the pressure drop across the venturi and as a result, it'll draw LESS fuel out of the jet

@@davelowets actually it is just a choke. The throttle butterfly you are referring to would need to come after the fuel spray bar in order to work as you mentioned. This butterfly comes before the fuel spray bar, when you close it, it increases vacuum pressure at the fuel spray bar. This causes a very rich mixture slowing down rpm

easy is good and it will choke/richen the mix. my problem was getting fuel from the fuel tank later in the run.
    so It has merit.

But thats an 051, the red throttle body is the giveaway, the 049 had a black body. In the 60's I had a lot of these engine up to the .015 Tee Dee special.
    , open power free-flight

Nice job you did, the Cox made exhaust throttle does not fit the Tee Dee exhaust portion, your device might be the only one to work on it.

    That’s a choke.

No, it's not just a "choke".
I would suppose you would call the throttle butterfly in a carburetor a "choke" also..... SAME thing
