It’s so easy for the ’offended’ ones to focus on the patriarchy/feminism message whereas there are quite a lot of other layers in the film like parenthood, sisterhood/brotherhood, life choices, consumerism, etc. Yeah, it was enormously bold of Greta Gerwig (and Noah Baumbach as her co-writer) to choose this direction for the film, but in the end it all comes together so beautifully that the ending never fails to bring tears to my eyes (even the 4th time watching)🥹 and yeah, we’re Kenough✊
Clever teaser trailer. I like that they are referencing 2001 to comment on how monumental Barbie has been in pop culture. @@brianaguilar8283 I don't know how to compare _2001_ with Barbie, one is among the most influential movies ever made, the other is among the most influential toys ever made
I remember watching this beginning scene in the big large screen at theatre and when she came out literally everyone was extremely incredibly amazed by her flawless and indescribably stunning beauty!!!!
i was amazed by her being around 120 feet tall, The Music, the expressions and actions of the little girls... there was a lot to watch - had they altered her image to fit the impossible proportions of Barbie? She is beautiful. Did you see that little girl touch her and jump away? like it's too amazing to be true? Like in the original! Then the wink. a lot there. THE MUSIC, did i mention that?
She's even dressed as Lilli, the German figure which Mattel based Barbie on. Nice touch. Pre-her-story. "Open the bathroom door Barbie" "I'm sorry Ken I can't do that"
Lilli was dressed in red and pink stripes. Barbie was dressed in blue and white stripes in her earliest incarnation (1959). The trailer has her in blue and white stripes. The weird bit though, is that Barbie and Ken were originally siblings... so... it's weird.
@@nyx2875 No, literally, her bathing suit is like the first Barbie, not like Lilli at all, like the OP comment said. unless you want to go onto the whole blue dress idea, which BTW, was blue according the the company.
Yes! It struck me as very cheeky at first. I immediately got the reference. But then, I understood the entirety of this movie, and its significance. Like Kubrick's epic, it is about transcendence, about evolution beyond the mere human. Like the Kubrick masterpiece, this film will endure, a work of singular genius. And then I watched Oppenheimer... No dichotomy, there, just a spectacular moment where two stories expand our world...

I'm always pleasantly surprised when a piece of Barbie media is better than expected (from the meme fodder of the 2000's to the better animated shows recently). Now it's becoming an actual thing with heavy production value, and I'm happy for it.

My opinion is that the movie is supposed to be goofy with funny lines but what did I see? A philosophical and motivational movie. Makes me realise how being happy forever is so POINTLESS (which isn't what society sell nowadays, specially with social media which is like the Barbie world itself). Its for kids and adults at the same time. Each one gets it in a different way. One of the best movies of 2023.👍

OK, I’ve seen the film twice already but somehow this is the first time I’m watching this trailer (I’ve watched the other two countless times, the second teaser trailer was what got me interested in this film when before I wasn’t really thinking about “that Barbie movie”) and I can see why people went crazy over it, this is GOLDEN. 😭 I ADORE the transition from the baby doll to the logo, which is, of course, in the movie itself.
this is pretty correct in terms of the history of barbie, before the barbie doll, most dolls were either baby dolls or ones that looked like children, a few dolls were out that were adults but they did not last and still had baby like faces

@@nancyneyedly4587 no the creator didnt have any connection to barbies maker what so ever idk who told you that even barbie sued bratz for being more succesful the only connection was they both are in mettals company so idk why you say that you lack knowledge
Barbie created an entirely new American doll market in the 1960s. Bratz as a concept was in direct competition with Barbie in the 2000s, just as Jem was in the 1980s. Barbie DID pioneer the fashion doll, and you can't sue someone for being "more successful" than you. You have to sue them for, oh let's say intellectual property theft or something. Maybe if you still Mattel cast-offs to make your prototypes, that might be a problem. That said, if you've got happy memories of your dolls, who cares about corporate lawsuits?
I was with a friend who went to a huge American Girl store in Chicago. She was taking her daughter's doll in for a repair while we were at a professional conference. I had never been in such a place. At the repair department, a stretcher with two employees dressed as hospital workers appeared & wheeled the doll into the ER. My friend was given a form that told her when to pick up the repaired doll from the doll hospital. I saw pre-teens walking around in a stupor, eyes the size of saucers, & realized that this place was Willie Wonka's candy land for them. The Barbie trailer, with its second-by-second homage to "The Dawn of Man" sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey, reminded me of that store.
This trailer was perfectly nostalgic and reminds me of a time when people would show up early to the cinema, just to make sure they wouldn’t miss the previews. So excited for Barbie!! 🎀💖
This is definitely not my kind of movie but it looks much better than I expected because that 2001 Space Odyssey reference with the legs was pure brilliance. It honestly looks like a fun movie and I hope the people who are excited for it enjoy it.
This movie was so good! I had low expectations for it considering the junk Mattel has put out in the past, but this was really good! I'm actually including it as a comparison to Wes Anderson's work in my dissertation I'm currently working on.
You know, ever since The Lego Movie, i've gave films based on toys the benefit of the doubt that seems like cash grab pieces of garbage. But with Gerwig and Baumbach writing the script, it definitely has every opportunity to be great. If Lego could work as a movie, might as well Barbie. Since this is a WB movie, I can assume that they looked at Lego Movie and wanna repeat the success of the first one with this
The shot at 1:05 gives me mario movie poster vibes. I love the fact that movie adaptations of things are staying more true to the source material these days.
I'm still crying. When Barbie said to Ken that her mother's name was Martha and Ken's mother was also named Martha and they stopped fighting, I wasn't emotionally ready for that. What a twist. I didn't think I could be this moved by a Barbie movie.
The fact that a Barbie film with an ensemble cast written by Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach, and directed by Greta is coming out is crazy enough, but the fact that this and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer (also with a giant ensemble cast) come out the exact same day is even crazier. I for one can't wait for that double feature...
WB going up against a movie directed by a guy that used to be their wingman is hilarious and sad but I'm sure the two of them will both be good to each of their own.
Just saw this movie and absolutely loved it. Opening scene was hilarious because it was so true. I just loved the message and I love the way the movie got that message out just fantastic. PS I think I had every single Barbie and every single Barbie car, house, boat, etc..

I can truly relate to this trailer, because that is how I felt. Being the youngest of 3 girls I got the baby dolls and my older sisters got Barbie 😍🤩 and I remember not wanting my baby dolls cause I wanted to play with the Barbie which my sisters didnt let me play with. I remember waiting for them to go to school and I would sneak into their room and play with them (I wasnt even old enough for school yet). They had everything! The corvette, the camper with sleeping bags, the house .... OMG! even being that young I remember memorizing where everything was and put it back exactly so I wouldnt get caught LOL. As I got older I got my own Barbies and played with them, made clothes for them and shared them with my friends. I still love Barbie (not the new ones) and gift them to my nieces at Christmas.

She's even dressed as Lilli, the German figure which Mattel based Barbie on. Nice touch. Pre-her-story.
"Open the bathroom door Barbie"
"I'm sorry Ken I can't do that"
Lilli was dressed in red and pink stripes. Barbie was dressed in blue and white stripes in her earliest incarnation (1959). The trailer has her in blue and white stripes. The weird bit though, is that Barbie and Ken were originally siblings... so... it's weird.
