Interesting how many “star” wide receivers coming out can’t catch the football.
It’s when great players lean too much on raw talent compared to technique. But technique always wins in the end. Sometimes it’s hard for players to overcome natural instinct because they’ve gotten to this point using only natural instinct. Christian Watson has a similar catch point technique issue he appears to have overcome. In high stress situations you never know when it will come back though.
QBs like Herbert are throwing bullets. Some wide receivers like Quentin Johnston may not be coordinated enough to catch passes that fast. He was catching passes from Max Duggan in college who does not throw hard. Much easier to catch those.
It’s definitely too early, but all the signs point to him being a bust and I, and I’m sure a ton of other people, called this. Dude cannot run a route, has stone hands, catches with his body, and cannot catch in traffic and that’s pretty much all the NFL is…close coverage on 70%-80% of catches
Pretty much all he did in College was catch short passes and hit home runs with them. Which is impressive, but if you can’t catch the ball downfield and in coverage, you have no shot in the NFL
Soooo maybe play to his strengths instead of trying to force him to be a completely different type of receiver?! 😅 it’s like trying to force tyreek hill to be a 50/50 jump ball receiver like Mike Williams 😂😂
it always cracks me up how narratives get started and then regurgitated by so many people. QJ had a lower drop rate than Keenan Allen, Tyreek hill, Davante Adams, Ja’mmar Chase, Amari Cooper, Aj Brown, Ceedee Lamb, and Mike Evans. Every star receiver I checked outside of Justin Jefferson drops passes at a higher rate than QJ.
@@Jcolvin530he’s too slow
When they drafted him over Jordan Addison I was punching the air
The most egregious thing about the pick is that Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers were on the board
Even worse, Addison left Pitt to go to USC in part because his position coach went to USC. Then that seem position coach JOINED THE CHARGERS
There was someone who had deep knowledge of how good Addison was in the room and chargers got QJ instead, I really want to know if that coach advocated for QJ or if he was overruled
But it made no sense at the time and things played out exactly as we thought it would
Many Chargers fans say calling out QJ as a bust in his rookie year is unfair. I say that any receiver taken #2 in the WR category especially with the NFL ready talent that was available on that draft board in both wideouts and tight ends makes Tom Telesco a bust as a GM!
I think it’s too early definitely. Give him a full offseason adjusted to the NFL, and a full season to work with Herbert and harbaugh and utilize his strengths under good coaching. If he doesn’t perform this year, then I believe we can call him a bust at the end of the year
Facts I agree
They seem to have done a decent job developing Palmer. Maybe in a few years he’ll be great, that being said…I bailed out in dynasty asap 😂
Palmer seems to be built differently, looks a lot bigger. And has better hands tho
@@sumwonkool??? Palmer is smaller and weighs less wtf are you talking about
@@DominicRogers-gs1fm word. He looks thicker. Weighs 5 lbs less according to online stats lol. Who knows how accurate those are. But I know what is accurate, the eye test. And the eye test shows me and stats prove that Josh Palmer shits on Quentin “bust” Johnston
Basically don’t draft a project receiver in the first round he should’ve been a 2nd or 3rd rounder at best
Exactly WR's are a dime a dozen
I think all of the 2nd and 3rd round receivers have been better than QJ. I don't think he even belongs there in hindsight.
worst WR in the draft. XFL maybe. He wont have a total of 2,000 yards in his career@@econ0003
The routes I also feel like aren’t his skill set to thrive in, it’s always streaks or deep posts and nothing underneath or slants
woah "Make that field goal" yes the chargers are the chargers but dont you dare doubt Dicker the Kicker smh do you even watch football
QJ catches concern me. The drops are mental errors and can be corrected easily because he has very good body control and large hands. Harbaugh will get the best out of him. But I would really like to see QJ's contested catches improve. Not sure how he can do this being out muscled on almost every play.
QJ a BUST?! Recalibrate: and use Ryan Leaf to set your scale at zero (0)
Justin Herbert hasn't lived up to the earlier hype. Harbaugh will take pressure off him with a lot of run packages.
Idiotic statement. Herbert is not the issue. What QB can operate without a run game and no defense? Also, Herbert pretty much owns all the QB records for the amount of years he’s been in the league and has a playoff appearance. Definitely worth the “hype”
hey Jethro they make bottles of water whats with the jug?
I am very thirsty
21 years old and people talking bust? Come on man.
He played better with Easton week 14 right? I'm not saying Easton is better than Herbert obviously, I'm saying Easton makes QJ feel more comfortable with his style of throwing. Herbert has too strong of an arm, that is not fully disciplined yet. That part goes back to Brandon staley. Get belichick in there, you will see an immediate trasformation.
Sorry but you have to be able to catch a ball if you want to a wide receiver in this league
@@daniellopez3292 how many catches has he had past 3 weeks?
Look at Devante Adams first year QJ will be back
You need Zay Flowers level burst to deal with drop issues
You can't drop easy catches when you are wide open when the game is on the line. I don't care how fast you are.
Who's here after another terrible drop vs Patriots in Week 13? Lol
Yup. Can’t believe how many passes he drops. Unbelievably bad
Has dropped a critical pass in a lot of games.
@@sumwonkoolit always cracks me up how narratives get started and then regurgitated by so many people. @@econ0003lmao factually incorrect. He dropped 2 balls the entire season.
@@Jcolvin530 Nobody that watches the games will argue that drops are a problem with him. Hopefully he fixes that in the offseason.
Seen enough of QJ.. he def a bust
BUST and im a charger fan
Watch a.t perry this week
Who?
@@sumwonkool a.t perry he gonna be a beast he's gonna be the next big WR I think if Jameis starts carr makes everyone look mediocre
He a bust
Yep
Definitely a bust
It’s definitely far too early. He needs to work on technique and he will if he wants to stay making money. He was always to raw and a guy who needed 2-3 years before becoming a guy.
He’s a first round pick! He shoulda been a 3rd or 4th rounder then and his expectations woulda been much lower. Even Keenan Allen who was a third round pick was light years ahead of this kid his first season. Plus, The two other receivers drafted right after Johnston (flowers and Addison) don’t seem to have a problem adjusting. I don’t see them dropping balls and They have almost 5x the amount of receptions and yards that QJ has. It’s laughable really, chargers curse…
@@sumwonkool I don’t disagree with you he wasn’t a consideration for me to be a first rounder while watching him in college. That said he does have a whole heap of potential due to certain athletic tangibles so I do understand the draw from teams though. But yes as a first rounder he’s certainly a miss currently but he should and will work hard if he wants to stay in the league so he’ll figure it out. It’s just slower because of his technique issues.
@@VinegarAndSaltedFries I agree. I think there is room for improvement and he does have great size. I would like to see him improve more on creating separation. Time will tell.. p.s. I love salt n vinegar fries 😂
Is it too early to call him a bust? It’s week 13 for gods sake lol. This guy is the definition of BUST most definitely! 20 receptions for 180 yards and 1 td thru 12 GAMES!? Lmaooo 😂
Keenan Allen can do that in one game. Chargers GM needs to go. Terrible draft picks every season! And they let the good ones go. Sick of this team. Smh
he’s had some solid picks as well though but this was a horrible pick definitely but Tuli in the second round was a great pick
@@arjanmoore5522 tuli was great I’ll give you that! Love that dude. But who else recently? Honestly
He is a complete bust. Six receptions in his first six games. a waste of a first round pick
@@smokindragn1 absolutely
I agree that it is time for Telesco to leave. The free agents he has brought in are terrible too. Khalil Mack is the only good free agent signing he has had in years. More failures than success stories with the players Telesco is brining to the Chargers.
