John Peters is the Standard by which all Gospel Organist can strive towards. His Humility matches his Genius. He’s from another planet musically. Yes the greatest Gospel Organist and Pianist alive. The others who are accomplished should all measure themselves by this Minister.
Music touches people in personal and unique ways. Music is about the musician's spirit expressing LOVE. Every musician has a unique language and it is powerful when we have the ability to understand that language . Jon Peters is masterful in his abilty to interpret music in such a way that touches people's souls. He certainly speaks to my spirit and hearing him play brings joy and peace to my heart. . Thats the beauty of music and the beauty of this brilliant musician. God did not delineate Gospel music as a genre to be played a specific way by chosen people on select instruments. We were granted free will to express ourselves and interpret art the way we feel it should be. Jon Peters, you are absolutely beautiful, bless you!
Brother Peters is a Gospel Icon here in the NYC area - came up in the school of players like Butch Heyward, Charles Minor, Jeffrey White, Alfred White, Michael Rogers, Sim Wilson, Uriah Whitfield, Ronald Banks, Melvin Crispell & others. These guys have heavily influenced todays crop of players like Cory Henry, Glenn Gibson, Jayden Arnold, Dennis Montgomery III & more who are leading the next generation of innovative players.
dfk4500 His name is John Peters.....A world renown Gospel Organist.....I say Gospel because I’ve always know him in that capacity but I believe he plays different genre as well.
He wouldn't be able to really criticize bc he took rhythm and blues and brought it to the church which was what the "club " was back then. He played blues piano for Ma Rainey. Gospel music came from non religious music. I don't know why people can't accept this. It's in the history books
The integrity of traditional Gospel music has really strayed away from it's intended purpose. There are too many artists trying to keep one foot in the religious/church setting and the other in secular. Too many focused on trying to be like someone else for self-gratification and not simply using the GIFT God has endowed us with. Not the kind of music that ministers to MY spirit and soul. I do NOT deny this guy is talented but this kind of music does NOT minister to MY spirit and soul. It shouldn't be a "musical ears challenge" trying to name that tune. 38 years old and I STILL prefer traditional Gospel especially mass choirs. Kirk Franklin, Mali Music, Sir the Baptist is about as far as I've been able to go.
What are you talking about !!! This is called being a creative musician!! If anybody is Traditional it's DEFINITELY JOHN PETERS !! Let's please not try to criticize and keep people in this "Box" !!!!
AnitaLinette It’s his opinion and he’s entitled to it.....I just don’t agree with insinuating that a musician is not saved because he/she plays different genre and/or make a living doing so.
AnitaLinette I also agree with you that musicians should never 📦 themselves in one genre because it stifles their growth and puts limits on their income potential if, in fact, they desire to make a living and stay relevant in the music industry.
I lovvve JP’s style of playing. I remember when Kirk Franklin’s music was considered not ‘churchy’ enough. Thank God for humanity’s progression into new things, new inventions, and even new expressions of music! This guy is awesome! (today)...20years from now, he too (JP) will be considered traditional and maybe even old school to the next generation of humans. I really enjoy JP’s expression of music.

He also played on Hezekiah Walker's song He's Holy, the TUFF organ intro, memorable
The chord changes @ 1:30-39...tho.
He’s plays at my church
Brooke’s World
Hey Brooke...what church? Where is it located? Is it in NY? Address & Church name please 🙏🏾
@@stashmoneyable No it is not in NY. Kingdom Life Church Apostolic, Baltimore MD.
This blessed me !!! How does he get the organ to sound so smooth!!!!
It’s a mixture of drawbar registration, chord type, and chord voicing. In some cases the type of organ and its capabilities.
He reharmonized the songs ridiculously.
Definitely the settings make all the difference and his approach
I like how he slipped in a snippet from Cory Henry's solo on "Lingus" at the end!!!
Yea that one took me by surprise. I didnt expect that at all! The GOAT no doubt. Before his tyme & still relevant.
@Chuck Lewisa group called Snarky Puppy that Corey plays with. Corey did it in his solo. Check it out real nice

Sounds like the club remix/version. Even Thomas A. Dorsey would slap his forehead in disbelief. ijs
