Wait, where did you get chromosomes from both parent for meiosis (you colored the chromosomes blue and red to represent different parents). I thought meiosis was the process to form gametes (each parent undergoes meiosis with only their own chromosomes right?) don’t the chromosomes come together only during fertilization
well the parents who are undergoing meiosis also have parents, so basically the blue and red chromosomes are the parents of the person whose cells are undergoing meiosis. Basically all body cells have two sets of chromosomes (one from that person's dad and one from that person's mom), which is what I was showing with blue and red, but yes, they do get split up during meiosis and the new parent's gametes fuse with another parent's gametes to make a new person with a new combination of blue and red chromosomes

@@faultyalt3578 Collegboard is often making mistakes with their answers on the AP exam. Don’t just be a rigid thinking mf and actually think for yourself and questions things about why they are. Metaphase I is when chromosome line up and you also know that homologous chomosomes cross over when they are adjacent. Prophase doesn’t line the chromosomes up. If chromosomes were to cross over when they aren’t even lined up, nondisjunction would be SO much more common than it is
