- For state #11 in our “50 States in a Year'' series, we’re in Virginia! More specifically, Alexandria, Virginia. Alexandria is the perfect mix of small town charm with big city luxuries. The red, brick sidewalks lined with well preserved 18th-19th century buildings make you feel like you've stepped back in time. That is until you realize that the 18th-19th century building is now home to the local Starbucks or Chipotle! Even with the conveniences of having your favorite chain restaurants that we’ve all come to know and love, Alexandria has done an excellent job of facilitating space for plenty of local businesses as well. The busy streets are lined with boutique shops and award winning restaurants with King Street being the center of it all. And if you really feel the need to get your big city fix, you're just a short 8 mile drive to the center of Washington, D.C., plus right before you cross the bridge into D.C., there’s an amazing park called Gravelly Point Park that has some of the best airplane watching you’ll ever experience!

We’re Matt and Nat, a part time travel couple based out of Nashville, TN. Like everyone else, 2020 turned our world upside down. With more time on our hands than ever and multiple international trips canceled, we were left wondering what our 2021 travel plans would look like.

As a native of northern Virginia, I’d argue that as cool as Alexandria is, it’s more like a city than a small town since it’s right across the river from DC. You should try traveling further west or south into Virginia too sometime. The rest of Virginia is very different from northern Virginia.
As a Virginia native who grew up in Richmond, went to college in Hampton Roads, and lived in Del Ray Alexandria for 10 years, there is so much more to see! I hope you guys will come back.
Adventures of Mat & Nat what a wonderful video you bring the sunshine in my day and you brought my heart to joy . You should go to Maho Beach in Saint Martin it’s famous for having massive planes take off and land right above you extremely close . It is quite windy but the experience is once in a lifetime it is extremely cool and totally worth it . From the bottom of my heart have a wonderful rest of your year . ❤❤❤❤❤

Would suggest trying to explore other parts of Virginia away from the northern Virginia area. Try Williamsburg, Charlottesville, or Virginia Beach. Thanks for sharing!
