  • A treaty to ban the production of fissile materials has been an important element of efforts to advance nuclear disarmament and strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime for more than two decades. Despite significant support for commencing negotiations on a fissile material cut-off treaty (FMCT), progress remains deadlocked.
To explore options and opportunities to revitalize the FMCT process, UNIDIR organized a panel event to provide States with a range of strategies that could help revitalize the debate and address some of the issues that have stifled progress towards the start of negotiations.
The event included the presentation of a UNIDIR working paper on unblocking the FMCT, followed by a panel discussion and a question-and-answer session with participants.
