Just to say that I'm a huge fan of your work and your videos! PS: it feels so good to feel less lonely in my guitar nerdiness. PPS: Edwards is my best guitar amongst my 40'ish. 👍
a heat gun and careful scraping usually will remove most factory guitar paint, and in large sections, very quickly i might add , if you're carefull , you can try a plumbers torch, but it can burn the wood if you leave the flame in one spot too long, try it on something that doesn't matter so much and experimen with it
Japanese jackson's are nice, so are chinese jackson's I have a Jackson js 34 made in China it's translucent quilted maple top purple with a maple fretboard extremely rare guitar! .
I'm starting to think China is the new 80's japan guitar building wise. In the 80's, Japan used to produced cheap but high quality guitars for half the price eof an American one. The top tier stuff made in China noway day is certainly as good as some Americans guitar for less money (Squier classic vibes, some Ibanez, jackson...)
Next time you try the crackle with a rattle can set your compressed air up with a blower regulated down to around 5 psi or even less ( filtered and water trapped ofcourse) . lay your crackle on wet and then blow it to force the crackle and they will turn out bigger AKA older charvel etc. Maybe not as big as a gun but quite a bit bigger than your first attempt. I imagine you are using montana crackle cans . The best stuff to spray through a gun is from the uk think it is custom creations paints.
I accidentally discovered this but I was using Hammered Copper and didn't like it after 20 mins of drying.... I mistakenly grabbed Flat Black and covered it.... And it created a Crackle Effect.... I haven't been able to recreate it that way since..
Nice spraybooth, but why cans ? 1 pack, pressure loss during painting . Thinner paint than with a spraygun Less control in your spraypattern A nice two pack topcoat is much more durable Positive point the crackle effect is really nice ,thumbs up !
That Kelly will be sick. Do you happen to have any left handed refinished guitars. I am looking for a black SG custom with the full bat wing pick guard in white pearl and the guitar in black. Like and Angus Young custom.
Great video! A buddy of mine gave me a Jackson Kelly KE3 with the pile of skulls graphic a few days ago. Seems like a pretty quality guitar. The floyd rose is a little rusty, but not bad.
The crackle effect looks awesome! I wonder if some of the crackle will flake off or full adhere to the basecoat paint. I might try it for my next guitar build. I do have a question about Frankenstrats. Do you use a capacitor across the volume potentiometer?
Of my 8 guitars, the ESP KH2 and E-II M-II are the best, most of mine have Floyds and Im thinking its the original German Floyds that are making the ESP's better.
Hey man i just discovered your channel. I have a MIJ ke3 kelly and MII kelly with a fixed bridge. I got them both used and obviously the issues with them on the used market are the rear horns are usually ravaged. Is it just bondo you use to fix them or you cut them glue new wood to it? Would like to see you refret using stainless steel frets as well i just bought already cut frets from amazon for $12 and want to see tips on working on them
ive done some crackle guitars before and usually just put a few coats of clear finish over it, you can still feel a bit of texture but i also dont feel like dumping 3 spraycans worth of clearcoat on a guitar
Wondering if anyone could help. I gave my Kramer baretta special a make over with candy apple red and black crackle. Unfortunately it came out uneven. It did crackle but its weird as its larger crackle is in some areas and smaller in others. I'm stuck between buying more paint and starting again or just leaving it. It's becoming rather costly. Just wondering what I've done wrong as I gave it an even spray and good coverage.
I love your videos, I recently subscribed, thanks for sharing all this information! I know this is a little unrelated but I currently have BC Rich bdsm pickups on my guitar, I have the chance to purchase EMG 81/85 set but just the pickups no wires or anything, will they work with the current wires on my bdsm? If anyone could help me out I’d appreciate it!
I know heat flakes thick clear coats off but I’d imagine that veneer would be very prone to bubbling up. The crackle is awesome and the perfect choice! I was tempted to do that to my last build, but couldn’t muster up enough patience to lay down all those coats of clear and sanding after going through that with my previous glitter painted strat.
Hey, I messaged you regarding my scarred dean fire crackle. Just curious on if u got the message and of your able to bring it back to life. I do like this red n black crackle, that's beautiful. If your able to give my baby new life inwould request maybe a black n purple crackle. Also let me know what ot would cost to send it to u and your services in restoring my guitar. ?
You are selling the Tyger Rhoads at the same price of a brand new RR24q that is an hight quality guitar. In my oppinion its crazy money... I want to support your channel and videos, but ill be honest in what i think you need to inprove. I think you should put better components in your guitars. The killswitch its not important, imo, and i think with your knowhow, and your tools and conditions, you could do the cases with a better and professional look, instead of that self made look. Also, i think the splatter finish in the sases sucks. Makes it look dirty. i hope you read this as a positive feedback for you to improve! By the way, i have subscrived. Cheers from Portugal
Your work is very Nice looking but I cannot afford $1,000 plus for a rebuilt recycled Guitar ?? Not when I can buy a New Schecter for under $600 dollars . Budget Guitar's in the $500 and under price Range that look , sound , play and feel like Custom Shop Guitars are what's popular these days . You don't have to pay a Grand for a Excellent Guitar these days . I understand your work and time put into these Guitars but the Market you want may not be there . I will take a dented Reliced looking Guitar for a few Hundred rather then spend that kinda cash . I'm in no way Insulting your work and Artistry . But there are lots of Guitarists like myself over 35 years that cannot Justify the Pricing . Good Luck . Maybe you can do some Guitars for Players who just want a good playing , working and decent looking Guitar ???
That crackle turned out sick! Always loved that look.

Digging the crackle! Never knew how that was done!
Crackle finishes are so sick. I love them. I love the 80's/90's aesthetic to them
I have two Japanese Ibanez from the 80s and the quality of both are spectacular.
I use thermal blower to remove the old paint, once you soften it is very easy to scrape.
It's like I'm in a timewarp back to 1987. I love it
loving this series fr

This is the coolest fucking channel. Excellent work.
Awesome looking crackle.
looks amazing man! keep it up i love the content
really excited man can't wait for it
Amazing job with that crackle!
The Ibanez Proline V has a Pro Rock'r bridge. That bridge is gold...you can sell it for a pretty penny on eBay.
Yoooooo I was eyeing that red kelly when it was on reverb lol!
Wow, love the look of the crackle! I’m going to have to try that! 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Nice work!
Release the Crackle!!

Damn brother, I can't wait to see how the Ibanez V turns out.
Oh man this is great! Subbed! - UK
I’ve got a Jackson JSX-94 Concept that could do with some love.
Ooh those are cool. If you want me to fix it up, email me mark@guitarguts.com

That’s my favorite Jackson finish.
@@jonathanficco8384 Now that I've got it all set up I love it! great finish too. I think they only made 700 or so of them.
@@jonathanficco8384 I would love a DK2 Dinky with the same finish
I want the soloist with that finish like Shannon Hamm played in Death. I’ve seen a few Kelly’s pop up just in bad condition
@@jonathanficco8384 Oh heck yeah, those soloists are great. I don't know too much about Jackson, but the ones I've played are always great
I have a nice jackson from Japan love that guitar
what about sanding w/ a stained guitar? i have one that it's taking me forever to get some of the clear coat.
Wow masks me wanna send my cheap dinky in 🤣. Amazing work that you do and can't wait to see what's in store with your new hire. 🤘

Your channel is very underrated I feel like building my own super strat along side restore my Bass.
Love this content
Brendon Ellis would approve! 🤘
the crackle effect looks really cool, but can you actually feel it if you run your hand over it?
Maybe putting som kind of clearcoat over it?
ive done some crackle guitars before and usually just put a few coats of clear finish over it, you can still feel a bit of texture but i also dont feel like dumping 3 spraycans worth of clearcoat on a guitar
If you run your hands over me can you feel me cuz I'm crackly too....😜
Yeah. You can feel it. Same with striped guitars painted with rattle cans and masking tape.
4 thin coats of clear, then wetsand flat, 2-4 more light coats of clear
Can you do a video of filling in a pickup cavity I wanna do a crackle Kelly soon , and wanna cover the neck pickup because I won't use it
I love the guitars and the channel.. where do people buy those pedals.. very cool

What do use for your finish? Do you apply a lacquer at all or do you just leave it after the paint cures?
What wood filler do you use?
Have you ever done a bass
Did u use a air gun to blow the paint like that ?
Those edwards 😍
Makes me wish I didn’t sell my bc rich iron bird years ago. Coulda done something sick with it

Not my style. I'm sure they're masterfully built but they are gaudy as fuck.
Gaudy? Not even close IMO. More like retro 80's shred perfection.
