That 'mystery item' looks very similar to something from when I was a kid in the 1950s. Part of a nutcracker set, we had several 'picks' like that used to pick the nutmeat out of walnut shells after cracking them with the nutcracker. They had the tooled rings at the back end of the handle and a curved pointed tool at the working end.

Thank for the info! I was puzzled by them and not sure what to think of them. But I’m glad to know what they are now. Thanks for the help! 👍

Yep; that R what it is; a nut meat pick; I'm very familiar with that tool 😊 The U shaped 'nails' are fence staples; used to attach barbed wire to wood fence posts... 😉 ...

If you can locate the old ranch & stagecoach stop privy/privies sites & excavate em before the housing development goes up, there’s a good chance of possibly finding & saving a load of antique & potentially valuable pre 1900 bottles.

I’m glad I’m not the only one sifting through all the junk-especially the barbed wire nail. I find a shit ton of them. I’ve also found spoons and knives that look very similar. I guess you have to sift through a lot of straw to get to the wheat.

Came across this video today, just wondering why do you wear shorts & sandals to detect in the Arizona desert ? I also detect the Az desert but its long pants & hiking boots for me , sometimes even snake guards cause the rattlers are out there. Good luck.

WRA CO = Winchester Repeating Arms Company and the .30 WCF is .30 caliber Winchester Center Fire which is a 30-30 cartridge.

Yeah that pointy thing that is your mystery item is a pick used to get the meat out of the nut like pecans or walnuts or what have you. My parents had one in a nutcracker set and that's exactly what it looked like. That other piece of metal you had just before that looked like the outer edge of a plate.
I have a house here in Oklahoma that used to be my grandparents. And there is a hill on the far side of their yard because we have 10 acres, that used to be where they dump their trash after they burned it and they said people had been dumping their trash there since at least the 1920s. I know there was all kinds of crap there and they didn't really want me playing in it when I was a kid. I believe there was even those old spin washing machines and other major junk. I thought about looking through some of it for the bottles there are a lot of intact types of bottles. Assuming it's not completely overgrown now I pay the taxes but I don't mess around there very much as I live in another city

Pack rats piss me off! They ruin everything. 30 caliber Winchester centerfire cartridge that wire staple was too small for Barbwire. It was probably for chicken wire chicken coop near by fresh eggs in the morning. Oh yeah oh yeah. Nut pic came as a set two or four nut picks one or two nutcrackers that snap just look like a quick snap probably for a cheap breast collar for your horse. A good place to look for bottles is the old shitters. Outhouses. Standstill for a minute figure out which direction the prevailing wind is from. Go to the house footer and to the downwind side look for depressions and or humps of dirt, that may indicate, the old one or two Holer. There should be at least two or three around there if that place is that old, you know they fill up they have to move them and usually it’s downwind they’re good place to throw your old whiskey bottles so your wife won’t find them you sure as hell won’t catch her out there rooting around in the shit. I found a nice half pint pumpkin seed wiskey bottle in the old out house depression by a butterfield spur route stop about 100 yards from my place. Not a chip or crack in it. Happy hunting bro. Ya better wear some boots my friend. Rattlers are out year round most of the time your city shoes offer damn little protection by the looks of them.
    Happy trails, R.
