Although this is a classic Victorian style story it is only brought to horrible life by Mr Helme's excellent reading. An amusing pleasure!

I enjoy all H R Wakefield stories but don’t find them typical. I find his stories much more adult and knowing than the likes of M.R. James etc. in fact you could compare James, The Casting of the Runes to, what is basically a retelling of the story in Wakefield,s“ He Cometh and he Passeth by“ a much more adult version of the same story. One of my all time favourite stories is Wakefields“The Third Coach“ ….l loved the cynicism of the characters.
