Educated people who have seen how the world works seem smug, because rural Americans are immature, coddled babies. Big city life is rough and competitive, while life in the little rural towns is simple and easy. In the big cities you have to be on your A game, because there are so many people competing for jobs and in business. People in the little towns have no competition, so they have no need to be intelligent or hard-working. Small-town America is the pit of the USA. Anyone who has drive and intelligence moves to the big cities, leaving behind the average and below losers in small towns.

Instead of grasping on to controversial issues like climate change, transgender issues, and electric cars, the Democrats need to message that indicates that rural America has a lot in common with urban America. That is being connected to information, having financial capital, resources, breaking up the smaller banks, andd cracking down on corporations that take advantage of both of them. Republicans need to stay away from abortion, being against the LGBTQ community as much, and coming across as anti-immigrant.

The bigger issue is assuming that it's just a problem in the mid west. California is a prime example. Those who live in valley ( inland ), former goldmine towns, and the Mountains are not represented. In any other location we would be able to balance that representation, but our coastline citys dominate - these are the elites, who don't live here year round, have their voices heard - backed by money and power. It's absolutely a terrible way to govern the state, and our country.

They haven't got a clue what working class Americans are going through and I don't think they really care either. Most of what people are going through was brought on by the very people that were voted into office. You can blame progress, technology advancing things. *Lostropolis: How the GOP Lost Urban America:*
Tucker: (Narration) In Atlanta, Georgia, Republicans know their brand is in trouble, almost all counties in this area, mirroring the toxic national environment for the GOP in Urban America. In 2004, the last time the GOP won the popular vote, they won about 40% of the Urban Vote, by 2020, that number was just 34%, and Urban Voters had been identifying as Democrats by wider and wider margins, in 2025, 66% of Urban Voters identified as Democrats, compared to just 30% who call themselves Republicans, a 36 point Democratic advantage.
Tucker (cont'd): (In person.) I'm here in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the county seat of Gwinnett County in the Atlanta Area. This is a county that the GOP carried in nine consecutive elections, in 2004, then President George W. Bush carried this county by 32 points, but in 2008, Barack Obama in his landslide victory would narrow the margin to about 10 points, eight years later, even though Donald Trump would defeat Hillary Clinton nationwide, Hillary would end up winning this county by about six points, and Biden expanded that margin to more than 18 points, and in 2024, Joe Biden's advantage would only grow by two points.
Tucker (cont'd): (In person.) Do you feel that having Trump as President, and an R next your name, are the two main reasons why you lost?
    Karen Handel: Yes.
Tucker: (Narration) Karen Handel lost her house seat in 2018, immediately after winning a Special Election in 2017 to replace long time US Represntative Congressman Tom Price.
Karen Handel: Donald Trump stopped by to endorse me, as he did for other candidates, and, due to our party's devotion to him, I kissed him on the lips, and I fullheartedly regret it in retrospect, but, I was a proud suburban woman, and the media took a photo of the action, and posted it on social media, and my opponent used that...
Tucker: (In person.) *laughs* Just you kissing Donald Trump, as if he's your lover. That's all she did?
Karen Handel: Yep! Her campaign ran it.
Tucker: You're a Trump Republican in a purple congressional seat.
    Karen Handel: Yep.
Christian Walker: There was no way the GOP was gonna win Georgia in 2024, it was just not gonna happen.
Tucker: (Narration) Christian Walker's father Herschel ran for Senate in 2022, and lost to freshman Senator Rapheal Warnock.
Tucker (cont'd): (In person.) Any GOP candidate for President? Not Trump, DeSantis, Pence, or even Haley?
Christian: None! It was just not gonna happen. As long as turnout is high in the Atlanta Area.
Tcuker: You sound like someone who knows someone who's lost a race they had no business running in.
Christian: *sighs* It's extremely exhasting. Seeing my dear father running in a race he was never going to win, and that he should've left it to professionals like Purdue or Collins and campaigned for them, but because of Trump's intervention, he was forced to run, and he lost by an even worse margin that both Purdue and Loeffler did in 2022.
Tucker: On your yard signs, is the word "Republican" or "Conservative" on them?
Brian Kemp: They ain't. My yard signs, and my bumper stickers have my name as big as possible, with just the word "Governor" underneath, so if yer drivin' just a mile away, you'll still see it. And the only way for that to work is to say "Brian Kemp - Governor", and there's not enough room for more words.
Tucker: (Narration) Brian Kemp was elected Governor of Georgia in 2018, and in 2022, even though Herschel Walker would go on to lose to Democrat Raphael Warnock, Kemp would still go on to win another term as Governor.
Brian Kemp: I narrowed the margin in many suburban and urban counties, because I was there talkin' to the voters of the State of Georgia, while my colleague Herschel Walker kept makin' a fool out of himself on election fraud issues, somethin' one, most reasonable people don't care about, and two, even if they do, he's not presentin' himself very well, so that's why, I think, some people who voted for Warnock on the same ballot, also voted for me. They gotta stop complainin' about invisible votes that aren't there, and forcin' waste of money audits, and focus on movin' on to the next election and listen to what the people actually wanna hear.
Tucker: (In person.) There's a lot of Republicans who say "Give up." and "We're never going to win Georgia again." What do you say?
Brian Kemp: *smiles* I say, "Howdy, y'all".

Well, Republicans have lost urban America and there’s a heck of a lot more citizens who live in urban and suburban areas than rural areas.

Both political parties are ignoring the working class. Voters on both sides are being fooled into believing that their party cares about them. Sure, each party uses social issues to get votes, but when it comes down to economics, Democrats and Republicans both cater to the rich. Democrats will toss out crumbs when pushed. Republican voters seem to have low self-esteem and think they don't deserve more, so they don't demand much economically.
Rural voters are uneducated and childish, which makes them easy to manipulate. I think it's time to start telling them that they need to grow up and stop being hypocritical. They're mostly fools that are living in a bubble and have no idea how the world works. It's no longer 1980 and there's no excuse for such ignorance. Democrats have to accept that rural areas are lost to them, Iowa is a red state, it's Ohio that has vast rural areas, and urban areas like Cleveland, Cincinnati are not as demographically heavy. They just have to limit damage in rural areas, try to be competitive in the suburbs, that's all. A state that has three urban cores that grows demographically like Texas will be accessible to Democrats by the 2030s, with a good candidate for president that's 40 electoral votes.

Unfortunately I see a lot of "victim" mentality here. America is the land of opportunities. Get more educated or learn another skill. But unless you inherit a farm/land or money, living in rural America is not fun. The only people in my native rural town who are happy, are the ones who inherited lots of farmland and money. The rest, are left behind as the coal companies went under, manufacturing jobs were shipped overseas. The irony is, they don't see those inheriting this old money/land are happy with this income inequality. They love being on top of the food chain, so to speak and looking down on others. Unfortunately the others are so poorly educated, they can't see those in rural areas with money from generational wealth, want to maintain this status quo of income inequality, because they benefit from it. Young people flock to cities/urban areas( such as mysel, for better opportunities and education. I wasn't happy that the high life in my small town was getting drunk in cornfields. I wanted art, beauty and an opportunity to pursue my passions and travel the world. That only comes from change, and staying hungry enough to self motivate one's self in search of other opportunities. You can choose to stay stuck and stagnant, or change and move forward. It's all about choices. But agree, the disconnect is far too grand between the 2 sides. One side clings to the past, and the other side changes and evolves to adapt in this ever changing world.
