    I’m a hobbyist musician and have both BeatMaker 3 and Cubasis. BeatMaker 3 has crashed way too many times on me, whereas Cubasis may have crashed once or twice. Beatmaker 3’s interface is still awkward for me. Sometimes a window pops up when you tap something but then you don’t know how to hide it again. Also, copying and pasting patterns is very odd and non-standard. However, Beatmaker 3’s sampler is really excellent, especially time stretching samples. But as a DAW, I still prefer Cubasis 3.

    I prefer beat maker 3 because it works like a MPC . I have fl studios and I wanted a MPC because of the key pads and the way you could sample using them .I was about to spend 2k on a MPC but beat maker 3 has the same functionality that I was looking for . Feels like the old school MPC I use to have that doesn’t work anymore lol

    Great comparison. Hadn't checked out Cubasis 3 so it was great to see a deeper comparison.

    Cubasis definitely needs an option to do manual-only save, like Beatmaker and NanoStudio. I like to open up existing projects and tweak them and be able to go back to the original, can’t do that with Cubasis. Also sometimes I open up a project and I get inspired to create a different song, in Beatmaker and NanoStudio I can just keep going right on top of the opened project and then (if I like what I’ve done) simply Save As a new project. And the previous project would be completely unaffected. I find this process gets my creativity a huge boost, and also creates continuity between tracks so that if I put a few songs on an album they don’t feel all over the place but feel like they belong together. Because of this I never have creative blocks, I just go through several of my projects and something usually develops. Like brainstorming. Cubase was my fav DAW on pc and I prefer everything in the iOS version to Beatmaker, but I feel Cubasis 3 is still almost as badly organized as Cubasis 2 when it comes to project management and files, Beatmaker is a clear winner in this regard.

    In Cubasis 3, I made a drone sound. I tried to fade it in, but there was no sound because the volume starts at zero. Since the key was only hit at the beginning, it doesn’t have a chance to get started.

    I tried Beatmaker 3 first. Lagged, crashed, deleted app. Even if Beatmaker 3 was clearly better, I’m getting used to Cubasis 3 now. Auto save is ok, but I would like to have different versions saved.

    I’ve gone full circle GarageBand->BeatMaker 3->Cubasis then questioning if a full DAW on iOS is really the best direction? Am I replacing my Mac/Logic studio? No. I use my iPad and iPhone at the ideas stage to create beats, collect samples, design sounds and melody’s. In that regard, I keep coming back to GarageBand with its producer packs and strong community support and it’s sampler, alchemy synth, smart drummer, samples and content from Apple. Cubasis 3 is trying to be Cubase on iOS and I’m not sure that’s where iOS music production is going 😮‍💨

    The problem is CB3 is double the cost. It should look better and honestly it should be more fluid. Yet I don’t like the editing in CB3. BM3 does need updating but I still like the work flow better in BM3. Cubasis 3 just annoys me for the price.

      @MusicTechnologist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! 🙏🏽 Personally, although I think the aesthetics and workflow as well as some of the instruments in Garageband are way better, both Cubasis and BeatMaker 3 are better picks in my opinion for a couple key reasons: 1. No AUv3 FX plugins in Garageband 2. No dedicated mixer page 3. No automation. Those are absolute deal breakers for me, since they are essential to what I do. Both BeatMaker 3 and Cubasis 3 have those bases covered.

  • @bjamminsincebirth3494
    @bjamminsincebirth3494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Both of them need to allow you to explode the drums. All those tracks and they can separate the midi notes on different tracks. That’s annoying. Why do you have to have 15 additional tracks with nothing on them?

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beatmaker is better for working with MPC style pads. I can change scales on the pad quickly and easily and have multiple pad setups at my fingertips.
      OTH I find Cubasis better for linear editing on the timeline. And Cubasis is unstable for me. But it hadles MPE midi better and gives you access to Waves plugins.

    • @XanarchistBlogspot

      I think the build your own modular daw is too much for some people to wrap their mind around. I mean I get I could use a midi piano roll editor and an audio recorder plugin with AUM and have a killer daw. But sometimes I just want to bust out some tunes without thinking about all of that.

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, tbh AUM (from what I’ve seen) just has too much friction in the workflow for me to want to use it regularly. I like a more streamlined experience. With Koala, I don’t think it has every feature that I would need in order to use it exclusively. I don’t like jumping between DAWs, I generally just pick one and learn it well and then stick with it, unless something significantly better comes around. To be fair though, I haven’t really given AUM or Koala a fair shake yet.
