Isn't it nice for an actor to be interviewed by a kid and treat him as an equal. Beautiful old school attitude. God bless him

Andrew Sachs was almost 50 years old when this interview was filmed. He looks much younger. Really charming gentleman actor who had no affectations - very down to earth, humble guy in all the interviews I've seen over the years.

Manual is the part he is most known for - he died in 2016 in a nursing home and suffered with dementia and was wheel chair bound, and could not speak for the last four years of his life - life's a bitch ain't it. RIP Andrew

What a wonderful piece of history. The young lad did a very professional job here. I wish today, interviewers would allow their guests to talk in such long informative sentences. And this young lad could have become a great TV host. Wherever did he end up? And of course it is a joy to see another interview with the almost timid Andrew Sachs. What a sympathetic person he was. Thank you for sharing this on here

This young interviewer does it right. Asks open questions, listens and dont interrupt untill the subject is "empty".
Also what he doesnt do that many interviewers today do, is adding his own thoughts and or experience into his questions.
The focus is on the guest, and nothing else.

So fun to see the actor talk about his role.
That makes you understand how much in character they are.
This is as far from Manuel you can come... Great upload!

What a great actor Andrew Sachs must have been. He was truly able to make a character appear to be real.

Yes, the real Andrew Sachs was soooo different to the character he played in Fawlty Towers. John Cleese said that you would never think that Sachs was such a brilliant comic actor because he was very quiet and seemed more like an intellectual or a retired bank manager than a comedian. But,once he put on the moustache to play Manuel, he was a different man!!! 😂 And he was. But the real Andrew Sachs was born to a Catholic mother and Jewish father in Berlin in 1930, and they fled from certain death at the hands of the Nazis to England in 1938. So Andrew Sachs grew up in England and lived his whole life there. Which is why he has an English accent. It's not really a posh accent, my father speaks the same way as Andrew does. I think it's more of a middle class, public school accent, and my father went to public school back in the 1940's and 50's. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia ❤️

Funny how he didn't really like the show, but it was the only real highlight of his career. Manuel was so popular, that they even incorporate a similar character in the "Hello, Nurse!" movie, played by the same actor.
