Liked the book very much and I loved your analysis of the book! Great points. Discord discussion was also very fullfiling.
I need to watch the movie again, I watched it many years ago.

Thanks a lot, Berna! Yes, the discussion on the discord was great! Me too, I haven’t seen it in at least 10 years. But probably longer.

I loved this book. It has been a long time since I read it, so this was a great recap. I think Ill give the movie a shot too. I also want to read more the next one, Ripley Under Ground, but I've heard such mixed things.

I’ll continue with it for sure, but I do expect something less taught and novel. It would be wild for it to be so socially apt. It would either feel repetitive or dated, I imagine. But we will see~

I liked both the book and the movie. What I don't agree with is that the question of him being queer is left out of the movie. I saw the movie first and after reading the book I actually thought that in the movie his sexuality and him beeing queer was more clear than in the book. It was shown in different ways but I still got the vibe from both.

Just to add. I do think that it's questioned more in the book....everyone's questioning his sexuality.....but his sexuality itself seems bit more clear in the movie....which i would say is because of the bath scene, admitting his feelings to Dickie before killing him and of course because of his whole relationship with Peter

@@alenapeckova9947 interesting, I’ll have to watch it again. It’s been quite some time and I was probably a teenager, so may not have picked up on it as much - or just forgotten some pertinent details.

@@SpringboardThought yes that's possible but you could have just simply see it differently than I do which is ok too. Also there were more movies based on this novel but I'm pretty sure we both are talking about the 1999 one.

@@alenapeckova9947 oh that’s true. I was talking about that one, with Damon.

@@SpringboardThought me too....so we probably just got different vibes from it.

Great review and comments. For some reason, I never liked the movie. Maybe Matt Damon didn’t seem to embody the character properly? It just seems too subtle a plot to convey in a movie…. especially with an actor who is not particularly subtle, and with the fundamental problem that Matt Damon does NOT look like Jude Law for one second!

I agree, yeah, the movie was good, but not fantastic. Very hollywoodized and heteronormative and less intelligent, overall. Just “fun”. I certainly like the book far more.
