Lindsay Buckingham is probably the most underrated lead guitarist in the 1970s.

Great Choice! Once your facinated by Stevie’s voice, there is no way back. There are so many great songs for you to check out. For next song I recommend “Landslide”. From 1977. From the first album with Stevie and Lindsey in the band.

Sorry, of course it was 1975.

Yes! The original “Landslide,” *not* the “official” one! Her singing is so much better in the original.

I just love towards the end of the video where all the beautiful colors come in and then the young children dancing around Stevie, such innocence, very uplifting.

What an AMAZING reaction. The music (Lindsey's guitar) is the bed on which the comforter (Stevie's voice) lies.
It is interesting that you used that reference. I have heard people describe Lindsey's guitar as the musical realization of Stevie's voice. There are many instances where the timbre of his guitar playing mimics Stevie's vocal tones. They are musical soulmates. Together, they create magic.
The live 1997 version of Landslide illustrates their synchrony and history.

Lindsey Buckingham is a self-taught guitarist, known for his unique fingerpicking style and his use of alternative tunings. No one
sounds like Lindsey and he is so underrated. He does not use a pick and instead uses his fingers to pluck the strings. His unique
sound plays a big part in Fleetwood Mac's special sound.

  • @lauraallen55
    @lauraallen55 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Lindsey Buckingham's guitar picking is nothing less than phenomenal. He never used a pick. He arranged most of FM's music.
I highly recommend live performances of Big Love and I'm So Afraid. He is very unappreciated.
Not sure if you know the history of the band or of Rumours or of Stevie and Lindsey but it's pretty wild. Worth learning about.
You need to hear Dreams - Stevie's breakup song to Lindsey and Go Your Own Way - Lindsey's breakup song to Stevie both from Rumours and both incredible.

💖💖💖 Try Stevie w/Tom Petty "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" and Stevie w/Don Henley "Leather And Lace" and Stevie singing "Landslide".

I was like 8 when this video came out and Stevie instantly became my fairy godmother. She was magical, the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen in my life. Forty years later, nothing's really changed.

My favorite FM song and video. The rhythm section on this track is sublime. Stevie sounds and looks gorgeous, dancing in the rain and twirling through a magical forest. Quintessential Stevie!

The construction of the song is all about moving forward, so LB's guitar exit solo is as unexpected at first at it makes perfect sense afterwards and becomes such a sparkling highlight of the song you get to yearn for it. Also it should last 17 minutes ; )

Fleetwood Mac have such a distinctive sound and know how to compose great songs and write great lyrics that are synergistic. It's amazing that two musical genoises attended the same high school. BTW It's great that you're passing down your musical discoveries to your daughter.

This may be a great choice for your daughter, Shawn, because it's magical and, frankly, so pretty. Your metaphors about the song were terrific, and. yes, the instrumental arrangement and Lindsay's beautiful guitar work are just transcendent on this.

Okay; so this is a longer version of this song than you can fine on the LP. I recently found a deluxe version of Mirage with a bunch of additional songs, including this version of the song, which is listed a Video Version. This is one of my favorite songs from her, and is a tale of her life before Fleetwood Mac. Her and Lindsey moved to LA, and she worked two jobs to keep food on the table. Lindsey didn't work; he just stayed home and worked on his music. She would shop at thrift stores; which is where she got many of the outfits she still wears (including those in this video).
The idea of Gypsy is back then; she would sit on the floor and listen to music, write her songs, and pretty much this was her happy place. The song is talking about being able to spend time relaxing like she did in those days, on the floor listening to music. The room in the video is to represent her room and her old life.

With what you just learned about their prior partnership, you're able to better understand why his guitar fits this song so well, they instinctively know where the other is going musically. And the video is among the best ever done.

Some bands like Fleetwood Mac and Tears for fears take the ‘pop song’ to an entirely different level of quality and complexity. The musicianship is the equal of any band at any time.

Now for you I suggest "Big Love" live. That'll give you an idea of what a guitar genius Lindsey Buckingham is ❤

If you want to see Stevie Nicks BEFORE she and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, try the album titled simply Buckingham Nicks. She and Lindsey made a terrific album that was never a commercial success, even though every song is great! When Mick Fleetwood hear this album he could not wait to ask Lindsey and Stevie to join his group. When they did join, Fleetwood Mac rocketed to stardom! Suggestions: Crying In The Night, Long Distance Winner, Crystal, Races Are Run, and the magnificent Frozen Love, which has a spectacular guitar solo by Buckingham! Love your reactions!

I was lucky enough to get a copy of B/N about a year after its release (before they joined FM) and have loved it ever since, and still play it often, (on a home recorded CD, this LP was getting worn out). Strongly agree, he (and everyone) should be exposed to this album. (The reason it wasn't successful was that the record co. gave it no promotion at all.)
