Love seeing you two together again. Also just wanted to mention that with the way the slave traders, and owners kept records, the fact that some slaves ran away, and everything else about what happened with slaves over hundreds of years it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to trace back your heritage that far. Also it can be weird learning to love someone who didn't originally approve of your existence, I am mixed and it more hurt learning that people I love didn't accept my mother because of her skin color. Love the video and it is always interesting to see how both similar and different Black culture can be across the diaspora.

I already commented but I gotta make a note about the end as a Jewish person - a) yes, many many Jewish parents expect their kids to marry other Jewish people. it’s not always about religion but very often it’s all about culture, mutual understanding, etc. but b) plenty of other Jewish parents (fortunately mine) genuinely do not care. my boyfriend of four years just happens to also be Jewish, but he’s my first Jewish partner ever (I’m 28 today!), and if my parents cared about that shit I’d have probably never dated a Jewish man out of spite lmao.
Definitely some more relaxed people of faith out there..sadly some hardliners still belive in keeping bloodlines pure and within the faith..
Parts of me understand this ..but parts of me are disgusted by this in any form...glad your parents are open and you can love for yourself..enjoy

Wow I’m sat here as a brown woman realising how whitewashed i am and how out of touch i really am with my culture and heritage. Hearing jokeman talk about how he would rather be with a black partner because they would understand him and his struggles better and how that would affect the upbringing of his children just put a shift to my perspective.
