Charles Dickens once visited the prison and noted the inhumane conditions. The prisoners were forced to wear bags over their head until their day in court!
The prison is between Corinthian Ave and 22nd Street then from Fairmount Ave. to Brown Street. I went to school right across the street from the prison at corner of 22nd and Brown Sts. I was on the safety patrol too, my post was at corner of 22nd and Fairmount Ave. I walked past 4 times a day for 6 years as back then you went home for lunch. The trusties were outside all the time. 1950 to 1955/6. I can see the wall as I look out my classroom of Bache Elementary School, built in 1906 with my memories eye still today. Thank you so very much Mrs. Martin for the education you bestowed on me back so long ago.
@Tony Camaratta I remember that Girard College wall, we used to go to the Movie Theater. I can't remember if it was the Fairmont or the Girard. Maybe Yvonne knows. The balcony was 10 cents on Saturday. I remember the old Lash Larue, Hopalong Cassidy movies plus 5 cartoons.
Fairmount , the neighborhood where ESP is, is loaded with millennials, their kids and dogs. The gun crimes, local media likes to "report" on is NOT happening near there at all.
@@yvonneplant9434 I stopped going to places that don't enforce their laws equally. Its not the area, it's the governing policies. We are white, and I was born there. I used to stick my fingers in the Liberty Bell's crack as a kid. But its a "no go zone" now

Actually the eastern border is Corinthian Ave. Not 20th St.
