What a terrific set and great matching case. I'm going to look into the Galen Pen cases. I'm still on the fence about the Lamy 2000. There are not many Lamy designs that interest me, but this one is a classic.
I just yesterday ordered an L2K in EF and a 0.7 pencil! Your video has now inspired me to get the BP next to complete the trio (don’t need the RB). Thanks for your videos!
My first fountain pen was a Lamy 2000 EF. I got the EF as I need to write on copy paper and I mark up documents with it. I now have quite a number of pens with some far more expensive, but the Lamy 2000 consistently is near the top of the list. I have no sweet spot with my EF either, and it is smooth smooth smooth. I bought it at a specialized retailer though and the first one we ordered in he did not like the EF nib on that one so he sent it back for the one I ended up with.
I love the design of Lamy 2000 fountain pen but I find the little nubs annoying too so I don’t use it. I do use the ballpoint. I find it interesting that Lamy 2000 is enlarged Lamy 27 with modernist clip design. The nib, feed and pen barrel shape is same as Lamy 27. But small design changes have turned it into completely different pen. It’s one of the best pen designs of all time.
Thanks for the informative vid WII. Great buying value with that set and cool D1 adapter. I have those L2000s along with the Roller Ball and 4 colors ball pen. After the FP, I use the 4 colors ball pen (LAMY L401 with D1 type refills) the most. Standard colors are Black, Blue, Red & Green. My experience with the roller ball refills is way less than stellar. If colors are in your workflow I'd suggest you give the 4 colors ball pen a go. I'm a through and through FP user spoiled for choice but when travelling without a safety pen or multi chamber job that can be shaken and not perturbed it's the L401 tool pen that gets the guernsey. BTW I’ve busted two L2000s (FP & 4 col BP) some years ago that IMHO weren’t subjected to beyond plain ware and tear. The Makrolon polycarbonate which is generally renowned for being tough can be temperamental so some care is advised.
Aloha Alan! Congratulations on finding such a great deal on the Lamy 2000 set of pens. I was very happy to see that the fountain pen has a EF nib, which is at the very top of my wish list at the moment. As you know, EF is not a very common choice and even less so for reviews. I had a hard time really getting a good idea of the nib size during your writing sample, but appreciate you showing the comparison between the EF and M. Looks as though you flipped the video during the writing sample? BTW, I believe Lamy does have a 2000 multi-pen? I don't think it's a pen/pencil multi-pen? Mahalo for your weekly reviews, both pens and inks. Kind regards, Thomas
I have to flip the video for the writing samples, otherwise, it would be upside-down, as I film these with the camera across from me to avoid having to "write around the camera."
@@WhatIInk Yes, I understand about the challenges of writing around a tripod and in a sense it gives a more true writing experience as you don't have the nib coming at a odd angle, but I do find it harder to see a true writing example. As for the sweet spot, I am sure it does have a smaller one than broader nibs and for that matter a more standard nib shape? I have seen your Lamy 2000 (M)/Montblanc video a few times, but don't recall you mentioning seeing a "stub like" look to the nib and writing and since it would be less so with a EF nib, maybe non-existent or just not visible in the writing? Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on both thoughts (sweet spot and stub like nib shape.) Mahalo once again, Thomas
Congratulations Alan on finding such a sweet deal on this fantastic set of writing instruments! The ballpoint refill adapter was a nice addition.

My 2000 has a sweet spot , but my nib is a broad . And you get use to it very fast. Thanks for the reviews
That’s a major score !!

The 2000 ballpoint I’ve purchased lately actually has a second spring. I guess they probably made alterations to the design
My 2000 Ballpoint also has the double spring. The tip had to be enlarged in order to accommodate a d1.
