- Winter, nice Friday afternoon. On my way back to work, I found Gorran, Romain and later Ren, with a great singer called Liv, busking in Brighton seafront.
Ren is a very talented singer, songwriter, producer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist. He is a member of The Big Push Band and also has played together with various musicians and buskers. He is a very well-known face around Brighton’s busking scene and has been performing to ecstatic crowds for years, with early beginnings in the music industry coming when he was discovered performing on the streets of Bath, as part of indie-pop band Trick the Fox.
Despite having built a loyal fan base, due to health issues, Ren was forced to halt his music endeavours and move home to Brighton. During what he describes as ‘a time of isolation’, Ren was bed-bound for years having been diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
After channelling his frustration into song writing and producing from his bedroom, Ren is now going to do an specific treatment for the disease. Once he is 100%, he will be ready to share more of his amazing music/art with the world.

About The Big Push band!
Brighton based band The Big Push consists of three front men Ren, Romain Axisa and Gorran Kendall and drummer Glenn Chambers. Drawing elements from classic brit-bands like The Beatles or The Police, they craft their clever modern arrangements into catchy pop tunes.
Playing rock n roll, with a crazed kind of energy and authentic sound, The Big Push met busking in Brighton. Coming from four fairly different backgrounds, they have managed to create an authentic and original sound.
The four-piece sold out their first ever official hometown show at Chalk last October, and followed up with a full-capacity o2 Academy Islington headline in March 2020, just before lockdown hit the UK.
Over the last year the boys have created quite a buzz both nationally and to more worldwide acclaim amassing over 1.2 Million streams on Spotify and 12 Million views on TH-cam. Having achieved such staggering success online, their fanbase now reaches across the world.

Im bringing my dad home from hospital tomorrow so he can pass away surrounded by love..For two days I've be sat on a reclining chair next to him in hospital with this calibre of music in my ear to allow me to escape the pain.. I'm 54 and only stumbled across Ren's music a few weeks ago. Music has been a big part of my life since I was a young lad. I have been to 100s of gigs, seen many things but I struggle to think of anything I have seen or heard that has blown me away quite like the stuff I am hearing coming from Ren or those he collaborates with. This is just mind blowing. Chalk Outlines sends shivers down my spine and Hi Ren is mesmerising. Those who dare to be different deserve all the accolades, their music endures and sounds as good every time you hear it as it did the day it got you hooked

If only busking were allowed on the seafront near me. Sadly it’s not. I was busking when someone spotted me on cctv and sent out a council employee to stop me. Big love to Ren, The Big Push, August Radio Project and all the other Brighton buskers.
This video is surreal . From the sunset to the upside down house , to their voices, and Liv's laughter when she is singing. Their guitar playing is hypnotic. The only thing that could make this more surreal would be the ghost of Jeff Buckley sat watching. This was amazing !

I've seen quite a few here in the US, it's been years since I don't go out as much and get around but usually up near Santa Monica or Venice beach, or around some promenades of the bigger malls you'll catch a few and I've seen some when I vacationed in New Orleans quite a few years ago. I'm sure there are laws and restrictions for where they can setup and perform. Never seen the larger crowds Ren pulls in on some of his videos though, but most of them were very talented.

When Prince passed, there was a lot of speculation on who's gonna be the next Prince. Ren is the new Prince!
But he's the King of the Common man. He gives voice to and is a champion of the people. His compassion, kindness and empathy are staggering. You rarely find a "celebrity" who is as real and accessible as Ren. He's been a godsend to me and many others. I agree with you. He has the talent level of Prince, but he has something Prince never had. The true willingness to open his soul and show us that what is inside is what we all have...hope, loss, insecurity, anger, love, depression, guilt, happiness, grief...all those things that make us human. I am 50 years old and I remember when Prince started out. Even he never hit like this, straight to your soul. This young man is beyond special.

Agreed re: the Jeff comparison! I couldn’t believe my ears! The crazy thing is, if I’m not mistaken, i think Liv also, at times, sounded like she was channeling Jeff! Don’t get me wrong- Both of these artists have their own amazing and unique styles, so much talent and heart here…. But JB’s influence is impossible to miss. I’m so excited to see what these young creatives are going to do, going forward.
Ren commented on Chris Liepe's first analysis of one of Ren's songs, I think it was Hi Ren, about how surreal it was because he would watch Chris' channel himself, especially his coverage of Jeff Buckley. So the resemblance is intentional.
When I retire, I want to spend several years performing on the street again. I used to do this when I was in college during my summer breaks (Dana Point Harbor, CA), when you love the music then you just want to share it with others. I have a lot of respect for those who perform on the street.
I've listened to this so many times, and Liv is just amazing. Real, raw and beautiful ❤ also the pairing with Ren is just ghostly and beautiful together.

Very good question...my first bet is...they've never heard it before, when a mind is on cruise control, it only recognizes repedity. A willingness to all sounds and genres makes one whole, because I'm almost certain, for me, different music opens different thought patterns. Just depends what 🔑

How could such a magnificent singer/musician/songwriter(lyrical poet) not be the most famous artist today? He’s that talented. I’ve been deep in this rabbit hole since Hi Ren. This little beautiful song should be recorded for the world to hear. It’s so magical. Reminds me of a youthful Bono singing from deep within his soul for everyone to feel.
Well for one, he doesn't want a major label deal. He wants to be completely independent and obviously own all his music. He doesn't want to get disneyfied which I absolutely agree with him a hundred percent but the people that are going to follow him, we'll follow him till the end. He just hit 1 million subscribers... I don't even know how he wasn't at that before, I was baffled as well😂 but he's about to release an 18 track LP and he said he wants everything to be completely one-hundred-percent by word-of-mouth with no major label help or I honestly think that's a beautiful thing. Much more beautiful than you going into a boardroom with a bunch of people who don't know you personally and they hear your music and all they hear is the sound of their pockets getting fatter. So he really believed in in Ren as an artist than support him. I didn't have money to go go by his EP or anything like that but I did go around and tell everybody to subscribe to get to 1 million and he reached his deadline so I guess whatever I did worked😂🤷🏻♀️💯🫂✌️🔥🙏🎤🇬🇧🥲

Best ever... No comparison to Seattle
I lived in Seattle, kinda still do, during it's hay day back in the early 90's through the 00's. As a young man I used to go see the music and be a part of the scene, watch and sometimes going backstage, almost every night. I have stories.
I have to say REN is completely different. Cut from a different cloth but shares some of the best threads of history. Once in a generation and a half does something like him happen. Earlier today I used an AI visual generator to, "put REN in as the fifth member on stage with the Beatles at the black and white ed sullivan show in 1964 with George Harrison looking envious at REN"...the results were hilarious.
