Omg when you said that there was a villain that was just so evil and it is frustrating to learn, CLAMP had a similar issue with a villain in Clover. I haven't read RG Veda, but I knew instantly what you meant with their confusing storylines.
I am reading all clamps works by publising order before reading tsubasa chronicles and xxholic. I am in the middle of rg veda and I was looking to hear the opinion of other people about it! thanks for the video and for avoiding big spolers!! (Yeah knowing that the heaven god was not that good was one spoiler indeed, but that was only about it) I am still trying to figure out how the story will evolve yet, but two things surprised me already: 1-The thing with clamp stories and predictions/destiny/dream premonitions... you can see it in rg veda, in X, in card captor, in chobits... and those are the few ones I know. It has been consistent from the beggining. 2-The fact how characters that you got attached too really die. The beggining characters were okay. Its for story plot, and you dont know much about them. But the first a character that I was looking forward to see more often died , I was like: NO WAY?! You didnt just killed it like that? Its just a misunderstanding.... and nop. they really kill characters mercilessly. Which made me read it more eagerly. Like... never let them know your next move, 90's version. xD Oh so at the end we get to know some reasons... hmm~~ okay okay! lets see! Oh noo... I think ashura is very cutely designed. Its a cute character. I cant imagine why you hate it! Lets see how the story develops~~
Just finished reading the story, and came for your opinion. Oh boy, the more I think about the narration (especially the ending, ofc) the worse it feels. Mb should stop thinking. But your review is as always straight to the point, well-balanced (the good and not so in the manga), very honest and interesting to hear :D
So first off, very nice review! :) I'm glad that someone uploaded a video review of the Dark Horse reissue of this manga. I also own all 3 of those volumes and read them just a few months back. Now this is just my personal opinion. I honestly think that RG Veda is one of those mangas that you either LOVE it or just LIKE it. I think that it depends on the person reading and how they perceive the storyline itself and how they take it in. Yes, there is definitely a lot going on in the story, but I like it when a story has more of those layers. That's just me though... I want to also point out that not all manga fans can tolerate Clamp's way of story telling. They definitely think of multiple ways of building things up, keep you guessing and then to bring it all crashing down towards the end. I also think that it's one of those mangas that if you should go back to give it a second round, your view on it might change or you may perceive it slightly different than the first read. So what did I think? I LOVED it! As there are some comical moments mixed in, it is intense. As there is some romance involved, the characters are not swooning over each other and this is one of Clamp's darker works. A masterpiece IMO. That's just my two cents and again very nice review! I like how you started it off! Had me Rollin! 🤣
I love this! I hope others read this and see another perspective! I agree that it’s a love or like with RG Veda. I definitely think the romance in this series is so well done. But Clamp tends to do such a great job showcasing different types of couples and situations!
@@MommaLuvsManga Thank you so very much and yes, I agree! I do love how they incorporate straight, yaoi, and yurei romances with their characters. ^.^ So with that being said, I honestly had no idea that Dark Horse released an omnibus of Tokyo Babylon until I found your channel! *Runs to bookstore* 🏃💨 Lol Thank you again and I will be sure to subscribe!
Loved your review! I absolutely love RG Veda. It's story was incredible, and I personally didn't have any problems following the story as I read it, I think it made sense all the way through save for a hiccup or two. CLAMP's art is justs stunning though... I can hardly believe this was their first work. RG Veda and Magic Knight Rayearth (And Revolutionary Girl Utena) are the first manga titles I ever read when I was extremely young, around 10 years old I believe. But it's what inspired me to start drawing manga in the first place. ♡
Good video, I agree with your thoughts. It's been a few years since I read the series and I recalling liking it, but not loving it. I read it after reading pretty much everything else CLAMP wrote because it took me forever to collect the tokyopop volumes (this was a bit before dark horse announced the omnibus volumes). I felt it was more style then substance, but I did enjoy seeing some themes that CLAMP better explores in their later work. On a side not, I liked Ashura, but that was likely due to my deep love of Tsubasa which influenced how I read the characters of RG Veda.
This makes me want to move Tsubasa higher on my priority purchase list! I’ll likely reread RG Veda after and see if my feelings for Ashura change! I fully agree that RG Veda is more style than substance, but like you said it also gives a glimpse into the types of themes Clamp explores throughout their career. Even a not-so-great Clamp title is wonderful in the scheme of things. Haha!
Thanks for the good review I think this kind of manga might be good for me since everything you said about the story of this manga. It seems like the kind of story I like ❤️❤️❤️ I do like long complex stories with plot twist and especially when at the end finding out that the bad guys were good. That part always brings out my emotion a lot for the characters. And I don't mind the plot twist where by the good guy is suddenly the bad guy. And yes I agree the art is great. Clamp is the best ;)
I don't see the comparison of game of thrones versus Clamps work dude...-.- RG Veda has been my love since it released, one of the best manga besides angel sanctuary. I was only taken back to learn that the characters are suppose to be Indian. Culture confusion as to their appearance. But I worship Clamp! I sometimes think women are better manga authors at times. Sometimes. I'm not too big of a fan of a superficial world.
Best damn manga besides angel sanctuary for me! I love clamp more when it comes to relationships, they exploit both sexuality without fail and it feels more realistic this way as to prospective in an objective world then subjective. Sad you don't see a lot of that, the same of cultural diversity and race-still the sad issue.
The way you described the villain twist gave me flashbacks to another CLAMP title where basically the same thing happened lol Spoiler: I’m talking about Magic Knight Rayearth

Watched the OVA’s when I was a kid. Loved it.
Oooooh, I wonder how it compares to the manga. Hmmmm... I’m gonna go on a hunt to see if I can somehow watch them.
MommaLuvsManga Check them out and see what you think :) You can find both on TH-cam.

I definitely agree it’s better to read it in one go!
There are definitely some details I forgot, but some things are burned into my brain. 😂

I will forever stan for CLAMP because they don’t put themselves in a box while still staying true to their aesthetic!
CLAMP sounds like such a cool group (?) Of creators!
Yep, they’re a group and they are legends in my book! Haha!
@@MommaLuvsManga haha, I'll have to check out some titles, I have a feeling my brother may have some!
I highly recommend you borrow them from him and never return them. 😂😂😂
@@MommaLuvsManga Hahaha, I think he'd have something to say about that! XD
1st as always ✌😎

Lmaoooo! Yep. It’s almost EXACTLY the same thing. 😂😂😂 They love to give their villains a sympathetic twist. Haha!
