I put aquarium water conditioner in my watering pots. It's called Stress Coat. It removes chlorine and neutralizes the chloramines and heavy metals. I'm not saying it makes your water distilled by any means, but it's super cheap, only need a few drops per gallon, and it for sure takes care of chlorine, nitrates, and chloramines. I've never had brown tips or edges on my prayers plants and I use just tap water with the stress coat added.

I think stress coat binds heavy metal together so your mechanical filtration can remove it.

Actually..stress coat does exactly that, provides a stress coat for fish which is the slime you feel on their skin, protects them from disease! Not the product I'd recommend, if anything seachem PRIME would work better.

I got one of these 2 years ago and made the mistake transplanting it to a ceramic pot too soon after I got it. ALL of the leaves except for 2 of them died (and this plant started out massive), and I thought that was it for it. Nevertheless I kept it and kept watering it and had a humidifier right next to it, and then almost a year later it started growing back its first new leaf! Now 2 years later it's grown back bigger than before and is gorgeous! Definitely don't give up on these plants even if they die all the way back, they will surprise you!

My Triostar died a slow and painful death some time ago 💀 but I'm considering trying again with her and the Ctenanthe lubbersiana. They're both so beautiful ❤️❤️ and I have a bit more plant care experience under my belt now.

I moved to Brooksville Fl. 13 years ago with 3 Triostar plants. I how have 70 plants and could have twice as many if I kept dividing them. They are outside in pots. I did bring them inside when the temp was going below 45F.

Here is an interesting story if your wondering how these plants come back from the brink of death. When I went into labor (3 weeks ago) one of my Labrador retrievers (he's very sensitive) got sick while we were at the hospital and decided to eat my Stromanthe triostar 🙄 (it was a HUGE plant with close to 30 leaves that were a foot long each) and he ate every single leaf. 3 weeks later with keeping its conditions perfect and it has 3 new leaves. If you can match the conditions these plants like I've found they are actually super hardy plants.
P.s. my dog is fine and his vet thinks he got super sick from the stress he sensed from me going into labor.

I love my triostar - it has leaves that are close to 12 inches by 3 inches.
I use water from a dehumidifier in the summer. This past winter, I've been melting fresh snow for my prayer plants. No browning and it's free!

I bought this from my local greenhouse impulsively because the colors were irresistible!! I assumed because it's a houseplant it's easy! Well now I'm waking up every morning to turn on a humidifier for my plant, got an RO system installed, and carry a PLANT with me when I go take a shower lmfao. This plant is so pretty I would die for it!!
I have been watering my triostar using water from my fishtanks after water changes and it seems to love it. It is dechlorinated, contains a nice load of nitrates, and isn't hard like my tap water.

From what I've found over the years of keeping "prayer plants" in different states is that they are most sensitive to high mineral content in water (hard water). Distillation and reverse osmosis filtration are the best ways to remove minerals from the water column.

When I first got my triostar a year and a half ago, it freaked out when I first got it home and lost 2/3 of its leaves over about a 3 week period. I was so frustrated. After that though, it’s steadily grown back leaves and is about to the size it was when I first bought it. It is still one of my favorites. Thanks for making this video and explaining all of the science behind the tubers and the color on backs of the leaves! I love learning from your videos!

I got a huge pot of this just a few weeks ago at my grocery store for $20. I am not the best with these as our humidity is typically at 20’s to low 30’s in the desert. I have a humidifier going near it and it’s in a plastic pot. We will see how it goes. Worse thing is it dies back completely (or I guess the worst is it just dies) and I try to regrow but for $20 and a huge pot, I’m enjoying this beauty while it lasts! It’s cheaper than a bouquet of flowers and definitely lasting longer! I plan to follow all your tips and tricks. 👍🏼

My prayer plants love me.. not sure why, but I have had no trouble with any of them. I've noticed all my plants consume water at different rates, so I water according to their individual needs. I bottom water... It's humid here, so no humidifier needed. I use tap water.. and it's nasty, but they are fine. I do move them around from time to time, so they stay happy with the changing sunrays!

I love my triostar. When I got it I was apprehensive reading that it was a tricky plant to care for. It got mites once and I remedied that but other than the one occasion my triostar is doing really well. I think it's inevitable for them to get some browning even with a humidifier but once you're not too particular about that they're a real showstopper plant. :)

I had no clue about this plant and was sent it (in the winter in WI) and it arrived as what appeared to be DOA. Knowing nothing about it, I had nothing to lose, hacked off everything dead. Ignoring it, now and again watering with distilled water and leaving it in a fairly bright room……it has sprouted several new leaves and is going like a champ. Who knew?

My Stromanthe "Triostar" (I have 2) love their shelf in the bathroom...South East facing, but the southern exposure is through a glass block window...so maybe filtered?? Anyway, no brown tips or edges. I water more than once a week, and just use tap water...I just think they acclimated to my house. Have had them exactly 1 year. Can't wait for next weeks plant of the week!

I rehomed my triostar last week, funny you should mention that lol. It was looking a bit rough with almost all older leaves with edges and ends browning. I had it for about 3 years, so it was a good try. I got tired of seeing the brown ends. The water where I live is delicious and clean from additives I think so it must be the natural mineral content in the water. I switched to giving it rain water or distilled last year but I haven't seen much improvement.

I'm Lucky with my calatheas and other prayer plants i have !
My triostar is thriving in my bathroom , it in a corner with a lot of difuse light because there is a south-west facing window.
I admit i'm not too bothered by brown tips, i mean i'm not looking for perfect plants so it's fine !
I think stromanthes and ctenanthes are the easiest prayer plants .

I took it out of soil 2 days ago and placed it in water and they are looking better. (they bearly have any leaves left tho...) No idea what mix should I pot them into. The other specimen loves the soil it has, but this one hated it, despite it being the same soil. Maybe I should pot them in pure pumice???

I didn’t see any thrips so after 2 weeks of isolation and my liquid mix, I thought I was good. I place it in my green house (I have a walk-in one in my apartment) all 4 of my prayer plants was invested with thrips. After 3 months of fighting I lost the battle. I could not irradiate them from the plants. I had to say goodbye to all of them.

Yes I have seen quite a few people say commercial grade or intense fertilizers caused some browning. Recommended to use diluted fish fertilizer for these guys, it's organic and mild. These plants are SO prone to brown tips though, so try switching ferts if you please, but it still may not fix the tips!
