Dan nice voice over. I am in S.E. Michigan and at the time of this production this area had all rain. Currently it's the 25th and still raining without the contact freeze. Thanks you for all the effort required when making your content of this channel. Safe travels
In the late '70 was driving a TranstarII and was 100mi east of Indy. Freezing rain was falling and the road so icy I could turn the wheel and the difference in elevation on the two lanes (concrete) like maybe 1/4 inch kept me going straight ahead. Changing lanes was sketchy. Saw a motel at the next exit and just that little slope on the exit ramp put me in the ditch for the night. Next morning there was a fleet of tow trucks just cruising up and down the hiway. I flagged one down and he setup to pull me out and as the line tightened, one of his wheel chock popped out and shot about 100ft down the road.
Dan I have been trucking going on 37yrs and I can say nope I'm not playing in the snow an ice . If the weather man says snow I don't go. Be safe out there driver .
Gotta love winter driving...glad you're ok and were able to deliver without any issues other than the wrong day...lol You and Bailey stay warm and stay safe out there. ❄🙂🐕
I picked up a new 5th Wheel RV about 15 years ago. The weather forecast did not mention any snow. I drove Hwy #1 through the mountains from Kelowna to Calgary. The road was snow covered most of the way. I told my friend that I likely would never drive such terrible roads again. Just east of Banff, the left lane was not even being used. We stayed in line and we were pleased to get home to Calgary in fairly good time considering the conditions. I can only imagine when you are driving your rig in freezing rain. Take care.
The winter roads just opened last week, a month late, because it was so warm. Last week, down South in Winnipeg, I had a Super B-Train crack the whip, on the ice, just ahead of us. I bet the driver was getting a bit nervous.😅 Best wishes from the far North.
We went to my aunts house in Mississippi for Christmas one year. We left home in northeast Oklahoma, and it wasn't doing anything we got over in Missouri, and it started snowing. Daddy said it is probably snowing at home now to so we will keep going it will probably quit before long. It doesn't. we were in snow all the way to Tupelo, Mississippi. My aunt lived outside Tupelo a few miles. We got there, and Daddy called someone at home, and it hadn't even done anything at home. Stay safe, and God bless. Dan 🇺🇸
As someone who lives in North Alabama close to I-65, I can state that the Southeast states have very little in the way of snow clearing equipment. We rarely get snow and usually it is only a couple of inches, no where close to what the Northern parts of the country receive. The snow rarely stays more than a couple of days so the states allow nature to do all the heavy lifting. I do believe the states should have sufficient equipment to keep the interstate highways open.
Here in the west motor graders do the heavy plowing. Plow trucks are just for lightweight stuff. I should think in the South they might be able to call up enough motor graders to keep things moving for the rare times it does snow.
I remember after the Blizzard of 1993, City of Birmingham purchased a whole fleet of surplus Army Humvees for use in snow/ice. They never had a reason to use them & eventually sold them as scrap years later.
@@nspro931that fine & wonderful, but as said above; it doesn’t snow or ice up enough to justify purchasing a whole fleet to sit around eleven & a half months out of the year.
@@jamessimms415 I was talking about motor graders, they are used to grade county roads and on construction projects all over the world and all year round. The problem would be the logistics of rounding up operators with contracts and keeping them fueled and operators rested but the iron should be available.
@@nspro931 It's far cheaper and safer to just close down, I too live in north Alabama. The weather we just had is honestly a once in a 10-15 year thing, outside of that you might get a 1-2 day close down or delay. It just doesn't make sense to invest in trucks / plows / stock piles of sand and salt. Remember too that people up north will often have snow tires, and or years of driving on snow and ice. People here don't even know how to drive on wet streets, nor have snow blowers and equipment to even clear out the driveway / parking lot to even leave and get on a cleared street. Most people don't even own the clothing for the extreme cold we had, this is an area that rarely sees freezing temps. And only often at night for a handful of days out of the year. Just for some contrast the freezing weather broke on Monday here, granted we did creep over freezing on some days. And for the most part the roads were basically clear on Saturday. But here it's Thursday And we will almost hit 70 degrees, if not for the rain and overcast would almost need the AC. Literally a 60 degree temp swing in less then a week.
Dan Dan the siding man!!! Doing good, keep up the good work and out of outer crazy drivers way. We were stuck here in Western Oregon/Portland last week, that ice is no joke!!
They need to buy some for their interstate highway syt we m.suprised that a little of that kind of equipment is not required by the emergency management system.
I grew up in Va Beach and moved to Mass when I was 21 for work. I have lived here since then. One of the first times I had to drive inthe snow some told me, who from MA, the trick was not to start or stop fast, just go fast in between.
Morning Dan. You're taking the route I use to go from Coffeeville Alabama to Waterloo Iowa. In the winter you're not out of the woods until you hit Cape Garado
Safe travels. Your little escapade in Illinois is why I stayed home the entire week. Love Miss Bailey. Give her a hug, smooches, & scratches behind each ear. Do as you’re told, she who must be obeyed.
Probably nobody has snow tires either...we just got 5/8" of freezing rain last night here in Ottawa Canada...calling for another 1/2" tonight...stay safe Dan.
Middle TN got about 8 inches of snow and an inch of ice last week.. not fun. Like Mississippi, my county apparently doesnt own a snow plow lol. Thanks dan be safe
Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. Running ice roads and running on a roads that are frozen up from rain and freezing rain are two different animals. I have done both. I think , no I know, what Dan was on was more slippery. I have skied many of the time in a tractor trailer. It’s a little scarey at first but if you have controlled your speed like Dan did it’s doable. I used to as Dan mentioned keep an eye out for the spay coming off the tires. Plus I always when running in weather that was freezing up the hiway I would do break check. It’s not that you can not run on frozen roads it’s the speed you do it at. In Canada in the winter I would run for hundreds of miles on frozen roads from freezing rain. By staying out there in really bad weather I got to hown my driving skills. Ya never learn nothing in a pickle park. But if you could handle the slippery conditions keep those wheels a turning. Thanks for posting Dan. Brought back some fond memories. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you. D
I used too hate driving in freezing rain or freezing fog were the worst if I had to drive semi in it nowadays I would seriously consider spending the $4,000.00 and having auto chains installed on the drive axles
You lived up to your name on this video Dan. I enjoy watching a real professional drive.
It came by itself and we will let it go away by itself is the common snow removal method in the south.
Thanks for the video. Travel safe, Dan!!!

With all this driving in cold weather Dan, you'll be ready for running the ice roads in Northern Canada 😁

Monday in St. Louis and across Missouri had Freezing Rain, Treacherous and Dangerous. Lots of Tractor Trailers were Jackknifed and a few fatalities. 🙏
Looking at the hood of your truck and you can see how thick the ice is. Glad you made it safely to your destination. Safe travels!
A little talk over the video. That’s definitely different. I like that play by play action you did at the end. Stay safe out here Dan.
So glad you made it ok. Stay safe and be careful.
enjoy your channel and everything I buy at one time or another was on a truck....thank you
I am glad that you stayed safe.

Looks like ice. That's what we had in Mo. Stay safe scary travels.
Ice work super trucker Dan
Stay safe Brother
No fun. You handle it well.
Loading steel , so you do have your flip-flops on right
I remember my dad saying to watch the tires ahead of you if they shiny it\s just wet
I was told that too.
The other thing was there is always dirt on the paved shoulder use it to get yourself to a safe place
Dan, you might want to check out Tak Tracks that will fit over your boots to give traction for waking on ice.
Sorry those are Yak Tracks.
That weather is nothin to a Michigander 🤣😂😆
Should have been there in 93 and 94 it was bad especially the winter of 94
Stay safe tricky times
It 50 degrees today in Gary Indiana for a brief moment
Well as they say it's ten o'clock somewhere. No time like the present.
Well done Dan, having driven a truck in the UK I’ve experienced some of the white stuff so gripping the steering with you! 🥶
MS don't have many snow plows.. MDOT before this event happen put deicer on the slow lane before it even started to sleet/snow/ice..
Wow.. Glad you’re safe .. Guess ya never know…
Be safe
Hi Dan , Angel Mendez from Chicago il careful out there , love all you videos ,
Its supposed to be 62 Monday here in washington state. Nuts
El Nino
Wow scary stuff sliding
I didn’t know it snowed in Mississippi.
Question: Why do you ratchet chain on top of the load and not on the side close to the trailer?
Egad! Thats slick.
l'm going to guess you said a few cuss words as you slid by that delivery entrance
I used too hate driving in freezing rain or freezing fog were the worst if I had to drive semi in it nowadays I would seriously consider spending the $4,000.00 and having auto chains installed on the drive axles
for a steel company you'd think they'd use stronger bans to keep the steel beams tight
I guess they don't have Salt truck down there 🤔
Lucky
Dicey to say the least.
Be safe out there brother Dan. Little more than two more months of snow ❄️ 🥶
🎥📹📽🥶❄️🌬🧊Safe Travels Mr Dan
Does being loaded help on the icey roads or hinder?
Bailey needs a seat belt just in case this bad weather puts you in a situation where you have to stop fast.
Do you not have a CB Dan ??
