The older I get, the more I love stories like the one about your dyna comp. I’m old, but there is still time left to buy more compressors 😜 Really cool that you kept the dyna comp.
When I saw this a couple of weeks ago I thought it would have been cool if it had XLR in and out so you can run a vocal Mic through it. Like Color Box 2 by JHS
I just got this and I'm going to use it with my 71 twin reverb and possibily in stereo in my orange rocker 32 that you helped me decide to get. i put some killer alnico speakers in the orange.
If I'm used to comps with tone knobs (Route 66, Harlow) usually boosting treble to go from tweedy to blackface-y sounds, is this overkill? Or just go for this in a trade and UA will show me how to not use compression like an idiot and I won't miss the tone knob? I do like slamming a 610 in the studio...
Great vid Henning! I have the same nasty hum/noise in my home studio when using compressors with guitars. I got rid of it using ISP’s “Hum Extractor + Decimator” product. Maybe you could try it out too, it has removed my headaches trying to figure out how to remove hum like these 😊
Not all the way through the video, so not sure if it'd addressed, but I'm curious how people are using this? I know most people throw their guitar up front, but interested to see how this thing might work before the reverb and delay (or possibly after) and be a stereo compressor/limiter type thing and applying the compression in a more conventional means if in a studio and such. One thing that might have made this a bit crazy extra special would be to do like a split, pre/post mode, to put like compressor 1 front of chain and compressor 2 end of chain. Have like a la2a to kickstart and a highly smashing 1176 end of it, but nevertheless, I love my UAD versions of these dudes and this seems like a slam dunk for the board. Always love your videos!
Well, you answered that question with the split compressors. I had emailed UA about this as I wasn't sure and they said how it wasn't possible. Glad to hear it could be coming in a future update!
Unlike with the reverb delay, here the user interface works in my opinion. Maybe also because you normally don’t change the settings for a compressor as much as with a delay or a reverb
Totally get you on this, but perhaps you’re not aware that the app allows you to instantly select dozens of presets on the Del Verb. Sure that’s not elegant in live settings, but doable.
Looking forward to this pedal, love to have these in pedal format. You are right about the UAD native stuff, although I don’t subscribe they give you native versions of the ones you have bought as UAD 2 so I can add some when I am off with the laptop without the Apollo’s. The 610 is not is the chain where I normally use it (after amp) but it sounds awesome. Can’t wait to play with that. DHL breaks are cool!
I am not anti digital guy, if it not the amp - by no means. But a compressor is probably the most counter intuitive for going 100 % ADDA. Even Strymon decided with their Compadre (which is btw a great comp) going 100% analog.
From what I understand they are both incredible pedals. I tried to get a Cali 76 in my area but couldn’t find one anywhere, so I went to my local music store to see what they had and the UAFX Max is what ended taking home. It really is an incredible pedal this one, my tone and sound is now over the top, absolutely amazing😊 Cheers
Own - and love - both the Golden Reverberator and the Del Verb. Using them for both acoustic and electric. Not going to get the Max, though, despite its virtues. Prefer to stick with my one-flavor Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Deluxe, which is simply too brilliant to replace. And its analog, and doesn‘t color my tone. That said, the Max would be great for anyone wanting more flavors of compression (with color added at some settings), or even just catering to the different needs of two different guitars, or - last but not least - as a cool boost pedal (using clean compression with extra gain and a bit of EQ).
Whaaaa an envelope? I thought this was about comps? 17:20 because reasons ! I wonder how much power just the master room pulls from mains, maybe you need a newer step down transformer to feed your house? Or maybe build a gigantic battery/ inverter system so your gear only gets clean power isolated from outside power, or it could be static buildup from all the cat hair?
Seriously, this is not at all bad, but there are much better options. The Source Audio Atlas Compressor does much more than this (dual band, split band, dual mono and stereo, side chain, has 6 presets on board and MIDI, many additional compressors plus custom ones, includes graphic and parametric eq and a gate, etc. etc.) in a smaller box for less money. And it sounds at least as good. (No, I am not affiliated in any way.) I have nothing against UA, but seriously this is mass produced cheap hardware (I know because I already have plug noise on my Ruby and Dream... Checking the construction reveals grave shortcuts in the way the plugs are connecting to the board) with some software plugins they have already amortized a gazillion times. No presets, no MIDI, and no, standing in front of an audience playing with my mobile phone and Bluetooth in a place where dozens or hundreds of other BT devices cause interference is not an option. Absolutely no offense, your reviews and demos are fantastic, but UA deserves some more criticism here.
The whole firmware / app thing is annoying, my Mac is too old to support the UA software (for updates and firmware stuff), and my Android phone is also too old and crappy to run the app . . . unlike actual pedals, I can see people running into issues in the future with software, firmware, phone OS (etc)
FLOPPY Discs were/are 5 3/4" And THIS is a 3,5" Hard Disc. Whats wrong with you? No C64 in your youth and then a Commodore Amiga 500 or a 386 PC? Go straight back to the 1980s RIghtT NOW and live it through to the early 2000s. No Internet, No Cellphone BUT Rockos modern life (NOTHING to do with Rocko Silfredi XD ), Ren and Stimpy, Crystal Pepsi and Parker Lewis cant lose...MEMORRIES. XD
Great $400.00 USD for many compressor sounds when you are happy with one great sound on a comp at half the price. Add to that with this one you can choose 2 sounds from a foot switch ...but ....no MIDI so you can not use it with your switcher. Its OK though you can just pick the one that is your favorite, like everyone who bought it does. You would however have to decide that if you don't buy it you will not be invited into the culturally elite that have bought this pedal. Those that use their eyes fixated on the brands name to listen with instead of their ears.

Henning, you are consistently doing damn fine work.Well done and Thank You !

you can run a dymanic mic ,just need a xlr to ts jack
You can use an eventide mixing link which has xlr in/out
I never thought anything would convince me to take the Wampler Ego off my board, but this one is tempting me a little.
La 2a ,1176 and UA610 PREAMP,being plugins in a box is all i ever wanted for my recording/mixing chain.Definetely grabbing one.
Have you use in your mixing chain? Is it ggood? Low noise floor?
Thanks for reviewing this pedal and for inviting Vanessa in to play. I'm buying one.

How does the 1176 model compare to the Cali is the big question here?
Your reviews are the best I‘ve seen

wish it had a dbx160 compressor as well !

Hey Henning, do you think it is a good idea To buy this as an outboard hardware gear and put it in insert on a mixer?
No, their plugins do they job.
You might wanna look at the Warm Audio Pedall76
all the uafx pedals connect to the app great first time, but after that its dodgy.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the Origin Effects Cali 76 stacked?

So this little box takes Henning to the MAX
That is a scary thought Valeria!
@@andrewmorgan1640 I know it scared me too 🤣 but he said it!
I'd rather it had a dbx or distressor model than a dynacomp considering how affordable the dynacomp is

Beach cats FTW
I got this pedal and it distorts my guitar (not in a good way) at very low settings… any one else had this issue?

Where is the midi? Man! this thing with midi would have been the perfect front end to any pedalboard .
is the 610 preamp also a digital simulation?
Yes
Where is the SmallBox ? 😢
never wanted a compressor until today
3:53 he said unit
😂
Rather run vocals through this thing lol
6:25 4-710 doesn't have 4x1176
it actually does, just with less controls
@@EytschPi42 hmm interesting . I just noticed the tiny GR meter. So how is it different from the 6176?
