I discovered this glitch myself, and was the first person to do so (to my knowledge): If you go into 1-3 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii with two players and have one of them suck up a koopa, you can double ground pound to make the koopa never die. Spit it out right after the checkpoint, step on it and carry it to the secret entrance to the second star coin and bubble when it is in a spot where it has only about one height of Small Mario of space above it. It will fall to the ground, and the other player can walk towards it and spin jump on it. Since this is an instakill effect, you won't kick the koopa shell in any direction and it will just stay there. That player will rapidly bounce between the koopa and the ceiling, racking up about seven lives a second. This is the fastest infinite one-up trick in the game.
Nothing will make me forget the day when my friend showed this to his dad for the first time. Back in the 80s we had just discovered SMB and my friend and his dad used to compete. When my friend did the infinite lives trick his dad freaked out! We laughed so hard at his reaction!
There's another trick in Super Mario Bros. 3 where in World 3 you can throw a shell in between two Bullet Bill cannons while staying on the platform above and let the cannons fire while the shell knocks them out continuously.
There's another trick in New Super Mario Bros. Wii where you freeze a Koopa in the world 4 castle in front of a spinning panel and then spin the panel to get an infinite amount of lives with no precision required.

There's another one you can do in Super Mario World (in Forest of Illusion 1 I believe) that's similar to the SMB3 one with the giant koopas. You just bounce off each of the wigglers while gliding offscreen so they respawn. You can actually get corrupted bonuses worth like 5 lives and various coin amounts!
Super Mario World: In Vanilla Secret 2, find the silver/grey P-Switch next to the pit of Spinies, but instead of using it on them, carry the P-Switch back towards the start of the level, and use it on the 30 or 40 so Koopa Troopas. Get all the lives you need in a matter of seconds.
There's another trick in NSMB2. As Raccoon Mario, go to World 2-4 and enter the area with the 2nd Star Coin. You'll notice a pipe spawning Goombas. Keep jumping on them, while floating so you stay in the air. You'll start gaining lives soon enough. This is easier - but slower - than the World Mushroom-1 trick.
There's another in Super Mario World for SNES. It uses one of the stages on the top of the mountain (vanilla secret 2) and a silver P Switch. Take the switch back to the mid way point of the map, hit it and grab all the koopa troopas that turn to silver coins. Net about 53 lives, then quick quit the stage (after beating it initially) and repeat. 2 minutes-ish to get 99...
There's one missing from here that I discovered when I was little. On Yoshi's Island, on the fuzzy level, you can grab the rollie pollie enemy and when Yoshi doesn't have a full egg supply, put it by an enemy spawning pipe. The rollie pollie rolls up and knocks out each enemy that keeps popping up, leading to unlimited lives.
Well if you have a computer or phone you can install an emulator and try some of them. It's probably not the same experience as playing on an original console, but at least it's free.

I did the same thing in the super mario 3d world game, but, I did it differently since it was the Super Mario 3D world + Bowser’s Fury. I basically jumped on top of the purple crystal block (after getting the koopa to notice me, luring the koopa underneath the purple crystal block) then ground pounded the crystal block while the koopa was still underneath it, jumped a few times before I started increasing my lives to the point where three crowns showed up in on the lives instead of 999.

I (kinda) found another one recently in Super Mario World while playing through it. Go to the first level of the Forest of Illusions and after you make it to the midpoint, grab the super star and knock out those enemies that are ahead. You'll get around 11 lives. That's the most I've got. Lol
