I just played it for the first time tonight and I accidentally shot at it I was in shock like wtf I hope the rest of the game has stuff like that too I’m on the chapter where you make eye contact with the room service dude
I love how Hotline Miami makes you feel guilty for enjoying it. The track’s not evil in itself, but since I link it back to pixelated blood and guts, it makes me feel almost sociopathic for enjoying the OST to an incredibly depraved game.
The intro kinda sounds like a train of some sort braking as it arrives at a stop, which is fitting considering you first hear this music in the mission that takes place in a metro station
To me, the intro are the moments before the storm. It is not calm, it’s full of anxiety, anticipation, uncertainty and discomfort. You’re in a steel box rising with no going back. They’re the anxiously long moments riding the elevator up to the right floor as you grip your baseball bat, shaking with the nerves thinking about what you’re about to do. You reassure yourself that this is what you’re supposed to do, what you need to do. Then the elevator door opens.
This song just sounds so brutal and grimy on the surface, but there’s a mysteriousness which the breaks add. Perfectly compliments and encapsulates the atmosphere of the game.

Hello, this is "Mike" from Miami Engineering School. We are missing one student this semester and ask you to participate. Classes are from 1:00-2:30 at NW 137th ST. As usual, be discrete!
if I was Jacket and got that message I'd be concerned less about being discrete at a fucking school enrollment, and more concerned that i'm about to shoot up a school.
As I drunkenly stumbled out of the bathroom after throwing up, I tried to collect myself as I approached the main room. I opened the doors into the dance floor and it was like the DJ was waiting for me to come out, he dropped this insane beat that had a bassline which instantly put the whole dance floor into a trance. The bar staff were grooving behind the bar, even one of the security guards wandering the dancefloor was trying to keep his composure as he discreetly shunted his shoulders back n forth. I stopped where I was, surveying the room from left to right like one of those automated cctv cameras. A whole array of people mind warped by this synth heavy rhythm, no distractions, not one person out of sync, a hivemind being controlled by the vibrations emitted from the 7foot tall speakers around the room. I smiled to myself and basked in the moment, I thought fuck yeah man, I'm glad I came out tonight. As my head slowly came back to center thats when I suddenly noticed this guy staring right at me across the room, the vivid strobe lights were bouncing off of what looked like a baseball bat in his hand. He had on denim jeans, a varsity jacket with a B stitched on the chest and over his face, an ominous looking chicken mask. He wasn't moving a single inch and neither was I. But what freaked me the fuck out the most was that from head to toe, this chicken man was covered in blood...
