I’ve been using Sterling Insurance for at least 2-3 years as they’ve insured my van from the day I bought it, so I can genuinely recommend them: www.sterling-insurance.co.uk/campervan-insurance/?WillsWhereabouts&VanInf
Believe it or not but back in the 90s, me and my husband went to London from South Yorkshire for 3days to celebrate our silver Wedding anniversary, during that time, (we were staying at the Victoria Palace Hotel in Victoria) we walked from our hotel to Westminster and we’re standing at the traffic lights waiting to cross to the houses of parliament when a small loaf shaped van came hurtling across the bridge and failed to stop at the traffic lights, it overturned in the middle of the road, bearing in mind there were policemen around ( we saw them) it took my husband to run into the middle of the road , stop any on coming traffic so that he could give any help needed,he got the driver out and single handedly tipped the van back up right, the driver was shaken but fine, we didn’t hang about once that had been established, we were on holiday, nor did my husband want a fuss ( not that he would have got one lol ) he was built like a brick 💩 house at the time lol he’s in his seventies now, same build but no where near the same strength, to say I was very proud of him that day is an understatement but I just wanted to share one of my favourite memories of or 25th wedding anniversary 🎉👍🥰🐾
@@stemster972 very good point but we were just a couple of “ yokels” on holiday in London and he did what he did out of concern for others but I get it, that could so easily have been the case 🫣, I’m still very proud of him though 👍
Buy a little radio and have it on when you leave the van, that way anyone who comes near your van will hear the music and will think that someone is inside.
Dear William, I was glad to watch this video because it was always my dream to do stealth parking in London (where i’ve never been yet). I am traveling and living in my LR Disco IV for 7 years now around Europe, doing things that you do (except cooking) and i love it. I believe, this lifestyle will include more and more people since the housing crisis is bashing up people all around western world. I wish you all the best, and kudos
I live very close to there, and there’s lots of permit holders parking on back streets that will be a lot quieter, if you plan to visit over the weekend.
Another good place to park is Temple place behind Temple tube station. Literally on the embankment, 5 mins walk to Covent garden, Leicester Square and 1 min The Strand. Free after 18:30.
@joline2730 its commonly known as the strand, most people call it the strand, although technically it is strand. On w.i.k.i it also says strand or the strand
I drove down that road and back every working day for 15 years. You picked a really safe spot (by Central London standards). There is a lot of police activity around those streets because of the Houses of Parliament but also because of St Thomas's Hospital. Many of those sirens you heard would have been ambulances.
Fab video Will, love it! Have extended family up in London, and my brother worked on some of the drawings for the Shard, and the engineering that works the cable car over the Thames, both of which i visited with family 2 years back for Mum's 80th. Had a fab time. I don't have as much time to watch TH-cam vids as much now, but you are amongst my favourites when I do. You never disappoint 😊 thanks Will 👌
Get a box of baking soda & keep in fridge/freezer. It soaks up odors. Replace every couple of months. Cheap. Works. Thanks for showing London. We miss it so much!! Can't wait to return. ❤ from Atlanta, GA
I am from about five minutes away from Putney Hill - I was totally not expecting to see you there! Putney is in fact quite noteworthy - just before the bridge on the Putney side on your right, you will have passed St Mary's Church, the site of the Putney Debates in 1647. The bridge itself is actually the second Putney Bridge, opened in 1886 to replace the first (a little further northwards) bridge which opened in 1729. It's also the start point for the annual Boat Race. The bridge was built following an incident where Sir Robert Walpole wanted to cross the water on his way back to Parliament (the crossing was, at the time, served by a ferry) but found the ferrymen on the lash at the long-demolished Swan Inn!
First time watcher, I really enjoyed your video! 1 thing - when I make anything that contains cooking onions, I find the stench sticks onto my clothes, my hair, my surfaces, everything. How do you manage the stench when cooking in a van? Does it not smell everything up? Take care friend 😊
Loved seeing you back in Mary! This is what you’re best at in my view, keeping it simple, keeping it real, just you, the camera and a bit of cooking. I know it must be hard finding new places to stealth camp but this was really cool and a stroke of genius. I know what you mean about disappearing into your own little den when outside is chaotic, and you shut that world out and relax. Also a bit daunting with the traffic wizzing by, but glad you managed to do it and could share a different experience. So funny when you remembered that the Queen is dead. I think it’s been a while! 😆
I still think you should do a stay on lindisfarne Holy Island in Northumberland. When the tide come in you can't leave the island, well not until the morning anyway! Great to see Mary again!
Oh Will....what a lovely video today. I have always wanted to tour London.....but havent the chance until today.....so I thank you so much for that. I did realize that there are no sky scrapers like the US which I can easily do without. London is just so much older looking and not subject to change anytime soon. You did a great job of finding a central place to stay so we could see most all the great places. I'm glad you didn't have any problems with parking your van there and your dish made my mouth water yet again!!!!! So yummy........will have to make it soon. Sorry you didn't have any of my famous apple pie to eat for dessert. Anyway.......thanks again for a great video.......stellar performance from the one and only Will on wheels!!!! Now get some good rest for next week. Hugs.....
I work in London so know loads of park ups, the biggest problem is if you don't know the areas well you could easily come back to find your van broken in to or my worst nightmare, just gone. It's weird but sometimes I feel it's safer not to stealth park and make it obvious you're in the van.
Little Tip; If you leave a tiny bowl of Bicarb in your fridge it will remove & prevent smells. Interesting about Sterling regards age of people & of camper, i will try them for a quote when mine is due.
A suggestion for the spaghetti Bolognese: Sear the ground meat until it achieves a crisp, golden brown through the Maillard reaction. Subsequently, add the onions, celery, carrot, and rosemary.
Hi there Will, what a really enjoyable video in Mary, I would totally get lost in London, I think London is much better at night than in the day time. Most iconic places are all lit up. There’s also not much traffic around. That was an awesome place to park up for the night. Thank you Will. Xx🤟🏼✌️👍💕
This is the type videos that I love to watch! Hey Will if you will get a small can of coffee and open it and leave it in your frig it works wonders on removing bad smells from it,
I know the road you parked in, an old friend had to go up there weekly, used to park in those permit holder bays, said the cost of the ticket was cheaper than paying for a official parking spot nearer the office LOL.
And i think most brittish still cant help singing " god save the queen" after all she was the queen for 70 years, that is roughly two-three generations. So i cant blame them.
Only just started the video. But so glad to see you doing a stealth camp again will mate. Watched Charlie's the other week so buzzing for this one to. Great to see you back in the van again.
Take your left over Bolognese ,get three slices of bread...make into breadcrumbs....mix in to the left overs....make some meat balls or burgers....quick easy burgers... That's a good little van life hack, love it!
Amazing simple idea
Someone may break in being a good Samaritan.. if no one answers then they could be thinking is someone uncontious in the van
Good idea that. Gonna do that myself
But it's meant to be stealthy....🤔 Maybe pre-record a "phone conversation" so it sounds like you're inside on a call or something?
