  • Our brothers, the South Sudanese , are talented artists by nature. Top class handcrafted souvenirs are made from the most expensive and rare type of wood known as ebony. It is hard solid like a stone, it is usually very dark black and sometimes embedded with streaks of white colour.
Following the separation of South Sudan in 2011 many of its nationals preferred to remain in the north. They are welcomed and they help In lots of ways. Such contributions are appreciated. We are missing all those who opted for southern Sudan to be independent. Though the separation is a saddening decision we have to respect the hard way they have taken to achieve it , wishing them all the best, happiness of freedom, justice and prosperity .
This short video I filmed during my recent visit to KHartoum a few days ago . This was in the-open handcraft workshop and market which is located near the confluence of the white and blue Nile as they meet in Khartoum. I bought a miniature elephant for my daughter and a luxury stick for my nephew “ not for walking but is usually used by people of Sudan just for fashion “. Both items are of ebony wood. I was happy and very pleased to see such guys despite the economical difficulties are still keeping this vital traditional art alive. I praise them for their dedication and tolerance. I encourage all tourists to take a walk, visit their site and enjoy their cheep-priced but very beautiful handmade gifts.
The music and lyrics is of the famous Sudanese singer Tariq Abu-Obeida which is about nostalgia for the beloved ones who left their homes, title of “Those Are Dear To Us”
