    I worked on Gravelys for 20 plus years , they came in 3 different horse power ,
    5.5
    6.5
    7.5
    Only difference was the size of the Venturi in the carburetor ,
    I had a 1958 but sold it
    Now I got one of the very last ones they made , got it in 2000 ,
    I could make that Magneto box make a 1 quarter inch spark plug gap
    I got so many parts to these things , I think I will get them all out ,
    By the way , the very first one was built in 1916 by Ben Gravely out of an Indian motorcycle engine and a Ford rear end

    Good work, Jake! I had an old wooden handled job and nothing was any better when it started. And all mine that had the mag on them, the mag fitting was off center so you couldn't get the timing backwards and I used sand paper myself. Good deal and make us Tarheels happy with that flat top! GBWYall!

      @5Tractorguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good job Man !!! I have 7 of them from 47 to 66, at the moment only one is running and it is a 64 !! I think the LS was the best model made, it was geared perfect for plowing or mowing, anything that you had to walk a lot for,, Mr. Gravely was an absolute genius !!! Love your videos and look forward to all of them, Wish I had a better place to work on them myself !!! May the Good Lord Bless you and yours !!!

    I did a top end rebuild on one like this awhile back. Bored jug valve job carb rebuild normal service. These old babies will just run forever with a bit of maintenance. Valve set up is so much better then other engines with one on each side. Parts are getting hard to find now .

    Sweet man! So many good little tips in this video! I definitely have to start punching out some leather for those sediment bowls! Also that mag timing trick is a pretty good one, definitely going to keep that in mind! Apparently I need to find a stubby wrench too, you should see me trying to get mine off with a small ratchet and full sized wrench lol. (Mine has GRWs on it too!) You weren't concerned about starting it with all that crap ( totally stealing the word "crustatios" by the way! 😂) and rust in the cylinder at all? Also I know someone who would probably buy that thing if you decide to sell, I'll text you the details... So happy you are posting videos again! Looking forward to some more when time allows! :)

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mag deal and stubby wrench are definitely worth doing. Saves a heck of a lot of frustration! Haha, nope... all that crustatios stuff was going to blow out the exhaust anyways. If it was big flaky stuff that could've scored the cylinder, then I would've pulled the head. Going to see about uploading one now every 2-3 weeks, been making time to film on the weekends.

    Nice are those things hydrostatic or what is with the hydraulic stuff I’ve seen when I look at them for sale

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of people think they are hydros (on the walk behinds and riders) because of the instant forward and reverse. These have planetary sets in the transmissions with cone clutches, allowing for the instant speed change. Riders have independent drive clutches on either side of the trans that operate off one lever... allowing for the same control of motion. Riders also have hydraulic lifts... so people could confuse that too.
