- In this video we look inside of a broken Ryobi P747 Inflator/ Deflator. I received this from eBay. The seller mentioned that it had an error. I am hoping to do a board level repair on this one if possible. We know these are hard to get parts for so absolutely hoping for board repair or at least something we can replace with easy, cheap and available parts. I hope you find the video helpful and at least enjoy the look inside and troubleshooting. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Thank you so much for taking the time to make and post it. My P747 is still working but it is now extremely loud. I'm going to take it apart and lube it up.
Great Video. I watched this after tearing down my pump and coming to the same conclusion
TWO of those have failed me - model P731 and P747. The 731 - failure to inflate tire - set for 35 psi but stopped in 5 seconds and display showed 40-47 psi. Something wrong with the circuit board. Ryobi said it was not repairable. It was 2 years old. I have another P747 that I bought in 2019 that seems to be functioning as it should.
My daughter told me her handheld model P737 had failed when she tried to pump up her tire. I took it apart and found that the large gear was askew, worn in the 'center' hole. The fan was never installed on the motor shaft and was intact in the housing. You are correct in that parts are not available. They are probably in large bins somewhere in China. I send her a new model, Ryobi PCL001, so maybe it will be good for longer.
Thank you for taking the time to record/upload this video. You helped me find the hidden screw. :) Bad news is the motor on the high-pressure side of my pump is dead.
I have a piston from a P747 that you can have for the cost of shipping. I'm in north central Florida. Just let me know.
Thanks for your kind comment. I wish parts were available for these. If you don't mind sending it my email address is thriftytoolshed@gmail.com
Thank you for the information. I have the same unit which seems to be much less efficient in pumping. I was also concerned that parts might not be available.
Hi nice video. I have a P731 that I have been using for years and I really liked it a lot. It finally stopped working. I think the pressure sensor is the culprit. When I turn it on im seeing 168PSI on the display so the motor never kicks on because it thinks its full. Do you think I could disable the psi sensor somehow to get the device back working but without auto pressure regulation? Maybe rip the sensor off the board or something. At least id be able to use it still.. Thanks
I was thinking this model had a way to zero out the sensor by holding down 2 buttons for a few seconds. Check the owners manual in case it possibly helps. If it would be zero, possibly it would at least run maybe. It may not show pressure but may run. The only other alternative I know is to add a physical switch to turn on the compressor manually. I am not sure enough with the board to know what to bypass on it. Best of luck, and thanks for your kind comment!
Actually impressed by the pittsburg for having mostly metal parts inside for $8!!!!
that was informative and fun thanks for your work
Thanks for your kind comment!
I'm looking to use low-volt DC vacuums or other devices to force air through activated charcoal. I will probably be removing a bad battery on a dyson vacuum, hook it up to another source of power, and adding the charcoal to the container where the vacuum bag would be if a dyson had one. I'm doing this because of the WWIII thing, and the low DC volts is what is easiest to obtain through alternate power sources like solar panels.
Subscribed. I wish I knew how to do more stuff like this
I have a P747 and a sigle blade just broke off from what looks like a fan. It still works on bike/car tires, so I think if for deflating or inflating on the other side. It looks like the fan at 8:43 on the right.
Is that part available anywhere? Can I just remove it and not use that side?
The inflator/deflator has its own fan assy in the black disc shaped housing on the opposite side of the air pump. It even has its own separate motor. I believe you are referring to the cooling fan for the air compressor itself. It requires cooling because of the high temperature generated while compressing the air. It may be fine like it is or if vibration is really bad you may be able to break off the opposite side blade to balance better. I have not seen many parts still available for these now. You may get lucky and find one on eBay.
I have the other ryobi compressor/inflator that you showed and it stopped working. Do you have a video on fixing that one?
Sorry, I don't have any other Ryobi Compressor/inflator repair video at this time.
Great video...Great job.do you know what size is the e-clip?mine is broken😮
Sorry I do not!
Same on mine, the broken parts of the e-clip are nowhere to be found either ha
I did dig mine out of the junk bin and spare parts bin due to several questions about this item lately. This is the info I have regarding the e-clip that keeps the gear on the shaft.
The shaft is 6mm
The groove is around 5mm
The e-clip diameter is around 9.2mm
The e-clip opening is around 4mm
So maybe M4 E-clip?
Nice teardown. How do you like that multimeter? I saw that brand on Amazon and was curious if you've had good luck with it.
The Kaiweets meters have all held up well. I have several I use on the work bench. They are good to me for the money.
Thanks for your kind comment!
Hi Guys!!! Are the fan blades broken off behind the motor on the high-pressure side? The motor shaft on that side looks weird.
Yes, they are broken for sure!
@@ThriftyToolShed I was watching the AvE channel where he does a teardown of the Milwaukee M12 inflator. The pump/motor setup on the M12 looked practically the same as the one on this Ryobi. I guess these kind of inflators all do things about the same way.
They all do seem to be very similar. Also TTI makes Milwaukee and Ryobi so they may be even closer.
Hey TTS. Your video on the kawasaki stx 12f display helped me repair my display. Thanks for that. Iam getting error on display. Did reset per manual. No joy. Any other ideas. Thanks.
The only thing I would know is to make sure there is no corrosion on the board. I know corrosion is a big issue on many of these. I cleaned a lot from the board in this video. Glad you found the video helpful and best of luck to ya!
Hi, do you still have this device :)? Do you know maybe what’s the chip model inside? Mine is burned and can’t see the number :(.
I do still have it. Let me know which one you are having issues identifying and I will see if our board is the same. If you have Facebook you can post a photo on the Thrifty Tool Shed group called On the Bench and I can also share photos back to you.
Just to be clear, the large 28 pin chip is a microcontroller and will have a factory program installed.

@@ThriftyToolShed I really appreciate that! Thank you!
@@ThriftyToolShed I’ll do that as well! Thanks!
Yeah it's a shame they build them so cheap and if you want to, and can fix it, it would cost you more than it would to buy a new one.
Agreed! Enjoyed watching though.
Looks like mine has a burnt chip on the board.
Hope it is still repairable...
It’s not working because your fan blades are broken you need a new fan
😂
Made really cheap. If you're not going to use it much maybe. Mine just broke. The cheap-o metal reed valve broke, It's so weak. No way to fix it.
It does bother me when things are made so cheap that there are no replacement parts and it's made so cheap it can't even be fixed.
@@ThriftyToolShed I would rather pay a little more for something and have it last longer and be able to repair it if it does brake. Thank you for the video.
If you could buy spares from a company you would stick with them forever.
True!
