I heard this for the first time when i was in college during the 1980's. I went out and immediately bought the CD and started playing over and over for days. I played it to anyone who would listen. Sure I drove my neighbors crazy.

I love bebop I could listen to it for ever and never get tired of it especially by one of the greatest ever Charlie Parker he was one of the best in the world. this song is fantastic the way Charlie parker plays the solos really fast especially on Coco is amazing and I love how it is it Gillespie switches from trumpet to piano that was brilliant.
I remember listening to this when I started playing drums 30 something years and it was mesmerizing. It still is :) It has an hint of salt peanuts in there especially at the end.
Great post of the immortal "Koko." The wipes and peels are nicely done, and I love the throbbing surface movement you've given the photos, corresponding to the electric pulse of the music. Thanks!
Charles McPherson's transcription of this solo for the soundtrack for the movie Bird was good but doesn't quite capture the rips and super quick chord arpeggios bird plays. Absolutely crazy player

Sonny is great to me so don't get wrong. Sonny also had an distinctive tone with a vinegary flavor that's different from other Parker disciples. But, as the other commenter said, Parker was a genius.

I believe Dizzy is only on piano.
+Stirling Newberry Dizzy is on trumpet also because, according to his autobiography, Miles couldn't play this tune at this speed yet.
There's a lot of dispute about who, exactly, was on piano, and who on trumpet for this recording.
