When Starlift played Penny Lane in that wonderful pan show for Taste Of Carnival, it brought back so many beautiful memories, of Carnival long ago. Take a bow Starlift and the genius, Dr. Holman.
I was playing with " Invaders " in those days. Ray had left us and gone over to play and arrange for " Starlift ". Man those were the days of truly " SWEET Pan ". Also, Ray was one of the best Tenor Pan Soloist around. Like the man said Bands from the West was the BEST !! Nuff said ****** THANKS for posting Mr Valentine.......
I remember this as a child on the radio.... it was so good!... I realize now, that so much of Holman’s Music accompanied programs on the radio....... this is the early ... well 70’s period!... Great piece!....
Oh the memories!! When I was a child, the Government Broadcasting Unit used this as its theme song every weekday morning at 6:45 a.m. I do not remember one thing about the GBU programmes but I love this music up to today. It reminds me of a gentler, kinder Trinidad and Tobago. It also reminds me of going to piano lessons on Piccadilly St by Mrs. Thomas. Thank you for posting it up.
Today is Ray Holman's birthday and I'm celebrating with him, by listening to this masterpiece of an arrangement, by none other than the Maestro himself.
Ray Holman you are the best. I need to see the breakdown on this arrangement or better yet do a video on the arranging of Penny Lane. #bostoncarnivalvillage future arrangers need to see the process on this one
This arrangement always makes me wonder how come i personally keep hearing # ( Junior Pouchet) all over this arrangement even thou Starlift was Ray Holman. There was only one person in T&T with that sorth of phrasing in the melodie line, and the change of key in that fashon even the bass reminds me of Junior.Dont get angry with me people, I hear some of Junior Pouchet music footprints in this from start to finish..Anyway its beautifully arranged an i play it almost every winter..
@@samueleversley3956 Sam when your reply pop up I listen to Penny Lane over and over . Former East Side Symphony musician . This is a piece that move me since in school to go to pan music .
