This is a superb, timeless movie. Lesson learned: we must always have hope and NEVER diminish the hope of others. Just because you are not successful doesn't mean another in your family can't be successful. The wife was despicable to her husband. It's true that you only appreciate what was when they are dead and gone. It's tough being poor. Whether back in the 1940s or today. Never ever give up hope that your life WILL change for the good. Excellent movie. I highly recommend it.
They bowdlerized a lot from the book! For one thing, Aunt Sissy called all her husbands "John," not "Bill," which is why she had such a bad reputation. (But a heart of gold!)
