After watching the Gordon Ryan match from this weekend, I see Galvao getting utterly dominated in his super fight with Ryan.

@@Vscustomprinting well no winning does matter hugely that is the point of competition, to determine who is the best among the contestants of a particular sport, unless of course you’re one of them “participation medal” advocates.
Secondly, Gordon Ryan is technically better. He might very well be bigger and this does play a huge factor but he also has a far greater mastery of the various submission holds and a more well rounded game. Just look at what he did in the last ADCC, he submitted everybody except for Buchecha and Hulk. Andre’s record is no way near as good.
Andre is good but Gordon is superior, you might not like the guy but you have to do somersaults with your logic and carefully cherry pick the facts (if use them at all) to argue otherwise.
Galvao is old, short and has inferior bjj to Gordon. Sorry bro 🤷♂️

I don't usually watch grappling, but this is pretty entertaining. Fast paced, wrestling, show boating. It's like an MMA match minus the strikes while most other BJJ comps are full of guard pullers (I know it can be effective and have been swept and submitted from someones guard many times but that doesn't make it interesting).
Amazing to see this match! RDRs value/popularity as an MMA-fighter sure goes up when people notice he can't get subbed (in 15 minutes) by worlds best grapplers
Galvao is not the best grappler in the world, but he was for sure.

True but keep in mind when theres no scoring it's easier to play defensive and shell up without fear of losing on points. There was that 3 HR match the other day
I think it was clear Galvao has a much more developed understanding of BJJ, but RDR put up a good fight. Both showed a ton of skill. Galvao also is much more conditioned than you would think a man of his size could be. Very impressive for a 39 year old virtuoso, and impressive that RDR could take him to a draw.
I love that ONE bring this crazy matches for us fans.

RDR did a great job of always trying to wrestle up from guard and presenting a lot of problems any time Galvao tried to pass it was really impressive!

@@fluffstuffpootiebean1688 his body is full of anabolics and who knows what else, his jiu jitsu is very points oriented, in my opinion his very overated, I wouldnt call him a virtuoso, gordon ryan and marcelo garcia are virtuosos, not galvao
I typically don't like watching the grappling phase of a fight. Too often, strikers use it to try and rest, and it looks like a hugging match instead of a fight. These two were absolutely spectacular however. The chess match playing out over 12 minutes was intense. Tremendous respect for both men.

Galvao and Gordon are both on the sauce. Gordon is much younger and imo more technical, he’s going to wear Galvao down ADCC.
Not many combat athletes can just change sports and fight a star, just surviving Galvao is crazy. Awesome that ONE gave us this match. RDR has really great grappling for MMA and in some times, even was able to go on the offensive against this champ. Awesome

This is a perfect example of why Gordon takes 30min matches at a minimum, given another 15min Andre would have submitted him easily, and Andre was never in any danger.

@@benjaminlamptey1867 just so I don’t get called a keyboard warrior I’ll give an example if you actually care. The whole ashi-garami (leg entanglement) sequence at around 3:20 was piss poor from Galvao yet the commentator states the position was perfect and De Riddier still got out of it LOL. Galvao attempts to enter into an Irimi ashi garami but fails to (1) keep a closed wedge with right knee and left heel connected and (2) keeps his right foot in the outside position instead of inside, which makes the position more like a mutual ashi (I.E FAR from perfect form of the ideal position). The connection from galvao onto the leg was loose as a result which is why De Riddier could easily escape the entanglement. Commentator shouldn’t be referring to whatever galvao had as the ‘perfect’ position. Bad technical commentary
