I've learnt more about history in the past six months than I did when I was at school. You have a fantastic way of presenting information that makes any topic interesting. Thank you for making these videos, I've loved each and every one of them. One of my favorite topics is Shakespeare. Perhaps not a very original topic, but there are very few interesting and high quality ASMR videos on the topic out there. I would absolutely love any video about Shakespeare - either a purely historical one or about a play or sonnet.
Another fantastic video! I was wondering... even though I love the ASMR I get from your work, it would be an honor if we could get a behind the scenes look at how you put together these mini-documentaries, because you do an amazing job.
Heather Spielman Thank you, I copy below what I answered to another question. There is not much to show about the making-of actually. I just spend a couple hours educating myself on the topic. Once I have digested the information and mixed it with what I knew before, I just put a few keypoints on a paper and this is the structure of my little lecture (disappointing, isn't it? ;) ). Two things that help me tremendously are that I have a Rainman-like memory for historical stuff and a decent knowledge of world history, so I know where to go and how to present things. Then I record it. Generally it takes me about 1 hour to record 20 minutes of edited audio; my noisy troll dogs and sputtering are responsible for the 40 lost minutes. Finally I add images to the audio file. Picking them can take a bit of time, they have to be free of rights for this use and this is why many of the pictures I use are from Wikipedia. In total, I need about 4 hours to make a video. It can be less (videos about paintings are shorter to make, there is not much available material to research and I mainly use what I already knew or personal observations). Sometimes it can be much more. The video that required the most work to date is the one I made about the Moon recently; I was not very familiar with Apollo 11 and I spent ages searching for video footage - in total it took me something like 12 hours. ********************************* I generally read from a few websites that look reliable on the matter and I make a synthesis of them. I only talk about topics I already know a bit about before getting started, this helps a lot. All the source material is second hand and obviously I cannot check every fact carefully, so even though I do my best to pick only credible facts and replace the story in a broader context, there may be mistakes. This work is more about entertainment (in a smart way, hopefully) than real history. For that particular video, I watched a couple documentaries on youtube (but did not keep the links) and I read this: @californiagoldrush.htm @wiki/California_Gold_Rush @topics/gold-rush-of-1849
So glad I found your channel. This is very interesting, because I love history. Your soothing voice & great video quality, all make you a perfect package! Thank you
Another very enjoyable video from you, thank you so much. As far as sugestions for future topics I got a few; mafia history, ww1, ww2 and since you did battleships, maybe warplanes and or battletanks. Thank you for doing this, I cant wait for the next one.
I live in the SF bay area myself, so this is of particular interest to me. Fantastic feeling seeing your videos in my subscriptions every time as well!
Whst a great video!! Thank you! I was born and raised in northern California and have visited a lot of sites related to the rush. My elementary school mascot was the 49er also!
Thank you very much for this video, it was very informative plus very relaxing! I had the chance to tour several old Gold Rush towns when I was a child, and it truly was a lot of fun. May I also make a request for a video about the history of golf, or a bio of a famous golfer? I know Ben Hogan had a very interesting life and career, but there are others as well. Thank you again. :)
BachEternal glad you like it. I take note of your request; now it could take a long time before I do it because I have already made a list of my videos for the next few months (posted on my facebook page). Thank you!
Thank you for your reply and for taking note of my request. I understand if you can not get to it soon or at all, I just wanted to throw the idea out there.
This is wonderful, fantastic quality, and informative. Can i put in a request? A video about the history of aviation would be really cool, starting from simple balloons, to modern stealth jets. Just a suggestion :3
gas power It is coming, I am going to make one about the history of tanks (not only WWII, even though this will be a key period in my video). I cannot tell you exactly when, because I now prioritize videos based on the surveys I make on my channel and the choices of my patrons on patreon, but tanks are on my list for this year and I really want to make it.
Hello sir, I was wondering what sources you used for this video. I am a student of history and I'm always interested in the source material. Thanks-I really enjoyed this

Great video!! If you start making more, maybe try the history of the Arditi del Popolo the world's first anti fascist brigade formed during ww2 and comprised mainly of working class citizens including anarchists, communists and others working together against the fascist agenda in Europe
FreedomCrusader it would have to be more about Louis XVIII, because Louis XVII never ruled (he died in jail when he was a child during the French Revolution a couple years after his father Louis XVI). I plan to make a video about Europe at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 at some point, I should talk about it!
May I make a technical observation? I've noticed a faint metallic low frequency 'buzz' under your narration in several of your most recent clips. It's not particularly loud or annoying in any way, although I feel that it's a minor problem that can be solved quite easily once the cause is identified. If your microphone is sitting directly on the desk, it may be picking up the lower frequencies of your voice and feeding them back into the microphone. The solution would be to simply place the microphone stand on either a cork mat or a piece of felt. This would isolate the microphone from any mechanically transmitted sound. Alternatively, there may be an object near the microphone that is resonating as you speak. If you're using a headset with a built-in microphone, it could be picking up the buzz by direct bone conduction. In that case, you would need to adjust the microphone boom arm so that it doesn't touch any part of your head. Audio editing software: It might also be a good idea to check the audio input volume and frequency equalization settings, particularly in the lower frequency bands. I hope that you will find this information useful. As always; an excellent choice of subject matter, superbly presented. Thank you!
Bugzapper Thank you and I agree that I need to fix this little buzz. I am aware of this, it is not due to the microphone (unfortunately, that would be easier to fix), the noise comes from the fan of my PC. And I cannot stop it because I need the PC to work when I record. At first, this noise is all over the audio. Then I reduce the noise in Audacity and it becomes almost inaudible when I don't speak, but it sticks under the narration. What I would need is just a less-noisy PC or a laptop - I will try and get one soon and hopefully it should disappear.
The French Whisperer You could try "SpeedFan". It allows you to adjust your fan speed which makes your PC quieter. You should be aware of the heat, tough.
The French Whisperer It's unfortunate that the problem is with the PC cooling fan. The only solution that I can think of is placing an acoustic baffle (Imagine a small two or three-paneled Japanese screen, covered with heavy wool felt or foam) between the PC and your microphone. That should soak up some of the background noise. If it still causes any problems, a new power supply would be cheaper than buying a new PC. Power supplies aren't too hard to change over, just as long as the replacement has the same (or greater) wattage rating than the original. Good luck!
Bugzapper ...or it's just the CPU fan that makes so much noise. Boxed fans are almost always louder than their third-party counterparts and a silent CPU fan is even cheaper than a new PSU.
I have also noticed a buzzing throughout the whole video like a fly buzzing around in a can. Its quite unpleasant when using earphones in bed. Just thought id let you know. Great topic through
California was never a territory. Americans went into California when it belonged to Mexico for land, but Mexico didn't let them have their land so they revolted and claimed California for themselves. It was its own nation for 28 days until the US Navy entered Monterey bay and California entered the union on September 9th, 1950 as the 31st state. Utah, Texas, Nevada Arizona, and a few other states became territories. California was never a territory!
Tell us about the peaceful Clovis people who lived on the American continent until the ancestors of today's "native americans" violently wiped them out.
Never enjoyed history in highschool but I could watch your videos for hours!
Native Bay Area citizen here, it was lovely to hear you talk about something familiar like this.

Some pre-human history would be great: Abiogenesis, cambrian explosion, dinosaurs, etc.
I am moving to the SF bay area next week, so I was particularly interested in the content of this video. Thank you!
ottawasenspb thank you and have a good move!
Thanks again for this video! Enjoy it!!

Is history of Ancient Greece doable?:D Really enjoy every one of these videos!Thank you!
Reaper5704 Sure, I already talked about it here and there in various videos but I plan to do more (including a biography of Alexander the Great).
quote from a document preserved from this period:
"GOLD NUGGETS,THEY TASTE YEEEEEEHAWWWWW."
Yeee what? ^^
Yay! New video!
I would still really like an ASMR history on WWII tanks, that would be really cool if you could do it. Thanks
