Let’s Decorate for Christmas! Mixing Greenery with Primitive and Early Antiques

- Come with me as I decorate my Living Room for Christmas! We’ll put up my tree, that’s decorated with primitive ornaments and popcorn. I’ll also add greenery in with my early Colonial style antiques to give it a warm feeling of a Christmas of years ago.
LOVE it! I have lived with antiques and prims over 50 years and it never gets old.
Simplicity. It was a simple stable, with a simple birth attended by simple shepherds but the child that was born was anything but simple. Your home's beauty reminds me that so much meaning can indeed come from simplicity. Bridgett, a simple thank you.

I just love watching you decorate every season your tree turned out primitive & beautiful. Your channel is my most favorite of others I watch. Been following you & your Mom since seeing your homes in Country Living & I think maybe also in Primitive Home magazines. I no longer do a large tree as it’s just me now living in my home. This will be my 3rd Christmas since my Tom is with the Lord. Please don’t stop filming on your channel. I so look forward to the next one. 😊❤️

I don't know but these homes bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart!
So pretty and cozy, my favorite has to be the popcorn you made with your son ☺️💕
I take the tree branches off the old pre-lit trees and use them on tops of my cabinets as "filler" then add fresh evergreens, holly leaves, pine cones, sprayed curly twigs with frosted glitter or white paint, adding in tiny battery-operated twinkle lights. This works great because you can gather a small variety of natural stuff as a fun family moment...and easily switch out new fresh evergreens if they dry out. The fullness comes from the base of fake tree branches. I even add in a few christmas roses, hydrangeas or other flowers from grocery store bouquet for a special holiday dinner. Sometimes I make fake gingerbread ornaments by mixing applesauce and cinnamon into a dough, cut out "cookies" and poke a straw in dough to create hole for hanging. I let them dry on cardboard or cookie tray that can be set on top of counter or clothes dryer. It takes about 3 days to harden. Then I use tubes of puffy fabric paint to decorate or outline as "icing". I string them as garland or tuck in jars, baskets, trees etc.

Just beautiful! You have so many primitive and colonial pieces of furniture and collectibles that the garlands and pine are the perfect accent. So cozy and welcoming…I just love it! By the way, the new cabinet is gorgeous.

I really enjoyed this video….it is so amazing how greens can basically change a primitive setting to Christmas. I also know exactly what you were saying about not getting the cabinet and then not being able to get it out of your mind…..I’ve had the same experiences…I guess it just happens to us prim people because we know how hard it is to find that perfect piece. I love your primitive home! ❤ My prelit Christmas tree lights went out and I couldn’t find a tree I loved as much so I cut all the lights off and added my own. That was 3 years ago and I’m still finding pieces of cord from the old lights. 😂

I’ve always been’The Christmas Queen decorator’ but this year , I didn’t care. However, seeing how lovely and so effortlessly you decorated, inspired me and got my ‘wheels turning’ on ideas! Dear sweet Bridgette, your tree is perfect it is so pleasing to see a tree decorated in the old fashioned way with special ornaments. Our tree has ornaments from many family members young and old, some my son made 50 years ago and my grandma's from 1912. The Angel on top is 80 years old and still wears her original white dress. Love every ornament on your tree and those ornaments will be more each year with more memories. And that adorable cello! I love it! I have hanging on the wall my grandpa's cigar box one string violin he made in 1910. Love it ...also my aunt's Gibson ukulele from 1935. Both so precious. Now you need a prim nativity set to take center stage on your coffee table. I made one years ago and gifted it to a friend. Wish I still had it I would send it on to you post haste! I do a primitive tree in my bedroom with ornaments bought over the years from a holiday home tour in a town near us. It was just a tree I got at a yard sale that already had rusty stars and bells hot glued on the ends of branches. I don’t know how to describe the tree but it’s kinda spindly and the ornaments hang straight down from the branches. I love it. Thank for sharing your decorations. Have a joyful holiday.

Gorgeous! Just the pops of greenery is all you need. In the past I have taken my everyday decor down and replaced everything with Christmas. I had a big birthday in October and my body is letting me know it’s time to give that up. So I’m just going to leave everything as is and add greenery and wreaths like you. I don’t have a primitive home but I do have some of the lamps and crocks like yours and I love it. Until next time take care and let the house tours begin my friend.

Yes, I understand that nagging feeling completely! I usually circle the whole antique mall and end up back at the item. I love everything! And you may not want to but you can put the clear Command hooks to hold the greenery, they come right off or you can leave them.
