Great exercises, Thankyou. I've worked them in my practice routine the last 3 weeks and they have provided a sure setting and more confidence in the upper register. Looking forward to your next videos.

So happy to have found you here. To play along opened my ears to playing in tune; matching pitch. I’ve only played by myself for 6 months as a comeback player. Question: You don’t use your third valve slide on pitches D and below. Do you ever use it or rely on your lip to “tune it up”?
I’ve struggled with range and plateaued. But I played along on both exercises “live” and found I could play above the staff better than usual. Thanks 19:17

Hi Bryan, firstly thank you for starting these up again! I've been enjoying getting back at it and these moments rather grounding. I have a question, in your videos in Norway you mention dehydration a couple of times and I wanted to ask you about your observations of how it affects your playing and how you combat it. Best, Ralph

Hi Ralph. I find that dehydration affects my overall energy levels. A lot of travel/jet lag related brain fog can be alleviated by drinking enough water. If it’s bad enough, obviously, you get to the point where the face feels extra tight and the lips feel dry. How to combat it? Drink a bunch of water! I drink at least a gallon of water a day, as well as anything more enjoyable I may drink.
Thanks for the reminder - you’ve made me think about it, and realize that I’m behind on my intake this morning.

    Hey Bryan, great videos!
Quick question : Would you recommend doing your long tone series on a deeper mouthpiece or lead piece, as focus and response are a big goal of doing them. Thank you!

Hi Edwin. I’m glad you’ve been finding the videos helpful. Despite having made hundreds of videos now, I still find the camera distracting and I often catch myself forgetting to use the 3rd slide. I typically use it when I’m playing, but it’s the first thing to slip in this situation. That’s something I need to go practice!

@@AirflowMusicNYC I’m honored you replied to a several year old video. I’m a struggling comeback player (74 and studied with Jimmie Stamp 68-72). I’ve plateaued in register at A above the staff. I’m enjoying the return and will just have to accept that’s my limit. Blessings on you.

This is actually my newest video, from just a few weeks ago. More coming before long.

Hey Brian, I was wondering if you practice on your lead piece most of the time or do you switch to a deeper cup? I’ve always be practicing on a deeper cup but I don’t know if it’ll damage my playing.

Hi Isaiah. I practice almost exclusively on my middle mouthpiece. Not the biggest, not the smallest…
