been watching your channel for a little while , i have a 03 zr2 that im wanting to do a 5.7 swap on great info. ive learned what to do and what im getting myself into thanks.
I’ve heard ppl say the stock airbox isn’t restrictive but I’ve always noticed a pickup difference when I would swap over to a CAI. I’ve used K&N and now I’m using a Volant on my 4.3. I would suggest maybe build a sealed off air box if u can and run a filter from it. Definitely love seeing ur progress and hoping to share my swap when the time comes too
I have a 98 with the 6 still in it. I cut the front off the airbox to bring in a lot more air, and with a mail-in tune, it really seems to do the job. Hell, it can't hurt to try. I run a KnN w/o oil but any air filter will do. I like the stock look as well, so...
I was thinking about just cutting the front part open and slapping a new filter in it.. but when I was looking around, I realized the front plastic bracket pops out of the core support and let’s a lot more fresh air in. So homemade cone filter intake it is!
Congrats on getting a lot closer to your final goal, sounds really good. If the #'s are at the rear tires that's nothing to sneeze at, what's the cam? Got my Sonoma fired for the first time since the engine came of the dyno 2/2019 and it sounds amazing. Left the stand alone EFI and went back to carb.
Thats pretty cool you did that with a home hone.. i was thinking of experimenting on a leftover tbi 350 block doing the same you did just no stroker itd be a 355 sbc. With just flat top keith black hyper pistons.. wouldve gone into a long bed 2wd c1500. I ended up using the stock bore though 😂
@@nicholsperformance92 I did a light hone and the clearance luckily was just right for the hypereutectic pistons. I'm surprised how it revs that high. Have yet to install it but it should be plenty for a 2wd truck with stock suspension 😂
Hey Nick. It would be cool if you could find a Volant air intake setup you can make work. They’re enclosed filters which is what you want, and should allow it to breathe pretty well as well. And what exactly is your exhaust setup? I can’t quite remember. Are you running any headers?
I think I got a plan for the air. Should be nice and simple and cheap. It does have headers that are a little bit small for this engine size. The main issue is that the downpipes from the collectors just literally tee,s together not even a Y pipe. It needs a smooth Y that goes into a slightly larger pipe. If that makes sense.
How difficult was it getting the ls into the zr2? I have a 96 zr2 spd that I'm wanting to v8 swap but I know most use the 2wd s10s for ls swaps and from what I understand the cross member is different so the oil pan is what I'm unsure of
It’s not LS, it’s 5.7 vortec (sbc). Swaps pretty straightforward because it’s so similar to the V6 just longer. I got tons of videos out on the whole process so far.
Hey guys don't forget to HIT the LIKE button. Also Check out GOOLOO's stuff in the description. Thanks so much for your support!

Thanks! Cam is summit 8802. Good ol simple carbs hard to beat.

Thanks! That hone would still be great for cleaning up the stock bore if needed. I'm sure you got it figured out tho.

You can get aftermarket injectors (Spider). And you can take a 3 bolt LS throttle body and it will bolt right up to the vortec plenum
Did the ls throttle body is 78 mm and the stock is 72
I do have bigger injectors, thats interesting about the throttle Body.
