    A good free app that lets you batch-convert a bunch of video files is GoPro player. I downloaded it (free for anyone, don't need to buy a GoPro) and honestly I don't use it for its intended purpose- I edit my GoPro clips with iMovie or Final Cut. However, the batch-convert feature is pretty good. It is also necessary if you have a 360 camera, it converts the panoramic 'fish eye' image into a regular-looking clip that you can then edit in iMovie.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure what you mean. Watching video on a web site should mean it is in streaming format and should work anywhere. If you can't watch a video someone posts to a social media site, then it could be a bug with the site or a problem with what the person posted. I don't think it is an HEVC issue.

    Right-clicking the file in Finder and selecting Encode Selected Video File... should also work without using Quicktime. Do you know if there are any cautions with that other than that you're not playing in Quicktime? I guess you could QuickLook to ensure you've got the correct file.

      A big caution is that it may not work at all. That is an old Automator workflow made for a version of OS X a long time back. Plenty of reports of it not working. But if you get OK results and test your video file afterwards, then no harm in using it.

    I didn't know I could use quick time to convert videos. The problem I have is when I screen record, it can add up gigabytes of data quickly in the movie file. I think I can use QuickTime to compress it or reduce it down to 720p or 1080p to make the files smaller. The question I have, is there a way to screen video record in a lower resolution so the file is not so big and I wont have to convert it to make it smaller?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not with the build-in function. But third-party recorders might. Lots to think about as you usually don't want to record the screen at a lower resolution. But it depends on your use case. Like are you recording to make a tutorial or send a report into tech help or a beta test?
