- Ahead of the final race of the 2021 Formula 1 season, we sit down with our Test and Reserve Driver, Alex Albon to look back at his career with Red Bull, from his early days as part of the Junior Team, to his time at Scuderia Toro Rosso and his seasons as an integral part of Red Bull Racing. Hearing Alex being the first one on the radio to Max after he won makes this hit different
Wasn’t that just a perfect example of Alex’s character? Most of the grid if put in to Alex’s position would have harboured resentment. But Alex seemed to be able to adopt the team player role really well, and thrive in it.
Just look at the improvement in Yuki once Alex started working with him as a driver coach.
Sad to see him leave RBR, but he should be on that grid on merit alone. So it’s a good move. And who knows what the future holds.

He was wealthy but his car racing career was paid through sponsors. He definitely got to F1 on merit tho.

@@eruptic6503 Although at the time, his chance came purely through luck after having signed for Nissan's FE team before Red Bull suddenly had a driver shortage that prompted them to ask him back as a former program driver (the same situation as with Hartley).
Without the driver shortage, he wouldn't have driven a single race over the 2019 & 2020 seasons & consequently probably wouldn't be a Williams driver next season either, if he didn't have any previous F1 racing experience.
@@muniz27 Life is a lot more complicated, having money doesn't mean you have race money, money goes down the drain quickly if you have kids doing extremely expensive sports, so yes the money probably got him started but no they did not pay 54 millions for 3 years in the car as Lando's dad did
In other words, Red Bulls' success this season has been as much due to Albon's hard work with the car's development as it has been for Max and Checo. What a good sport! Wishing Alex all of the best on this new venture!!!
We've known from the beggining, there was a big article and also Checo being grateful to how open Alex was with sharing his experience and the car.

Alex’s job is just as important as Max’s and Checo’s. Without Alex, Max might not be in the position that he’s in right now.

It’s sad that Alex is no longer in the Red Bull academy but I’m glad Red Bull is happy to help him find a seat
He isn’t officially in the RB academy but who are we kidding whenever RB want him back they’ll get him
It is kind of like Sainz Red Bull “loaned” him to Renault
Alex is no longer with RB but RB do have first dibs on his services if they want him back for 2023
Men they could have easily got him the alpha tauri seat rather than tsunoda...but salty horner was just blaming toto that he is creating some difficulties for him to join williams

He had an awful year and was demoted to a test driver.
Nonetheless, he didn't let it get to his head and he proved to the team that he is still a valuable part of the team by doing whatever he could to contribute to the team.
He gave the man who took his seat tips and advice when no one expected him to do so.
He did a lot of work in the sims with the engineers to figure out the setups and also to help in the development of next year's car.
He helped to coach Tsunoda in the sister team, so that Tsunoda could do better.
He proved that he would stand up after he fell and that is why RB was willing to find a seat outside of the 2 teams for him, they were even willing to let him depart from the RB program to get his seat.
lulu basically ruined this guys red bull career with his "oops, they turned into me bono" move at least twice i can recall.
@@TheVinceb100 one or two race doesn't ruin a career. He was unprepared for the red bull seat and underperforming Max.
@@MA-fd6so he was winning a race and lulu put his front left on his back right, a familiar move from him and not at all an accident. who knows where that would have gone if he had won. checo underperforms max too, but isnt getting spun out cuz he's not running with lulu much.

His driving and merit aside, he is a good guy, and a good soul. I look forward to seeing him back in F1.

I love how he “owns up” to being a reserve driver and really embraces the critical work he does in the sim and set up of the car.

I wouldn't even call it an argument. Max has made it clear the simulator work has made leaps of progress on the car development this year. Albon was crucial to Red Bull this year.
Alex' input behind the scenes and arguably Checo's hard defensive battle. Lewis on fresher rubber wouldve had a great shot against the RB, the last part of the season i will admit the Merc simply looked like it could dig deeper and deeper still and delivered.
This guys had so much talent, its just like after Austria 2020 it vanished

Alex put so much hard work behind the scenes this year, such an important part of Red Bull. Sad to see him leave RB, I'm gonna miss his friendship with Max. But so happy so have him back on the grid next year, he deserves it.

This was a really cool thing to do for Alex. It's clear he has been very valued over at Red Bull. His sim work had a lot to do with where Red Bull is right now and how close this championship has been. I'm so happy for Alex and I can't wait to see how he fares over at Williams.

I really appreciate how drivers Albon and Gasly are given alternate paths, RBR don't just kick them to the curb if they aren't good enough for a top race seat.

They raced him hard, but he’s bounced back incredibly well, and now he’s been rewarded with a seat!
He proved that he's a better coach than driver. I still don't trust him in an F1 cockpit.
This is so much better after hearing him scream to Max on the radio, really feels like this year wasn't just a year out but a year that he had a lot of importance to the team. This is lovely guys and can't wait to see Alex back driving again next year!

I can sort of imagine in a way what the acceleration feels like having been in pretty quick cars but the cornering G`s and especially the braking must be mind boggling in a F1 car. Good luck next season Alex! We will still be supporting you in the Williams next year.

I met Alex in Indianapolis this past August, and had a lovely chat for a few minutes about F1 and IndyCar, and how he denied any rumors of a drive, even smiling when asked about Williams. It was funny to see him walk out of the paddock and through the crowd on an IndyCar/NASCAR weekend and not be recognized by more than a few fans. Thanks, Alex. Can’t wait to see you back next season!

Im rooting for him next season since he has done a lot of sim work on this years and probably 2022 car it shouldnt take much time for him to settle in.
he is the unsung hero of RB 2021 season. the work he did behind the scene is just fantastic. I just feel sorry for him that he was robbed off a grand prix win, possibly 2 times, because he totally deserved it.

I think Alex helped tune the RB16B so well and is a key part on why its capable for the championship, hence why RB pushed so hard to get him back into 2022.
