I don’t hate Wisadel or any of the meta units. What I DO hate is people looking at an operator that’s not Surtr levels of broken, call them trash, then convince the rest of the community not to build that operator. Nobody will try that operator nor will they build the operator because it’s been universally conceived that they’re bad operators. Take Wildmane for example. Wildmane for a while was considered “not worth leveling.” So nobody built her. Then NM-EX-8 arrived and kicked everyone’s ass. Little did we know that an E1 Wildmane was enough to make the stage significantly easier, using her S2 to push the waves of blood knives to the middle lane and NOT the Blood Knight. No Chalter needed. With so many operators being labeled as “bad,” we limit ourselves in how we can beat the stages. Possibly getting angry when our “one solution for everything” doesn’t work, when we actually have plenty of solutions to pick from. Just give these operators a chance. They may surprise you.
Even when a character with Surtr levels of broken comes out, some people will still find something to complain about and say that the unit is not strong enough. Wisadel is what the community deserves for its eternal whining.
some of my favorite and most clutch operators are often called bad or washed out, I was advised to not even build surtr because she's not as good as she once was and because wisadel is just around the corner lmao, it's crazy how people really want to avoid playing the game
@@Hurricane047Crushers are considered bad because they die too easily. To that I say “Bet, Pramanix *skill 1!”* Holy shit, -50% attack speed for the enemy just on Skill level 7. Granted it’s 16 second uptime. But with mod 3 Pram has a 25% chance to inflict cold which is another -30% attack speed, letting you make the enemy attack 80% slower. Enemies will attack so slowly crushers can clap them before the enemy can attack twice. This is like Walmart tremble. Bosses will only be able to attack once every 10ish seconds it’s nuts.
I think the archetype was designed to be broken ground pest control, their attack clear wave like nothing would ever do, in conjunction with their stupidly wide range, I kinda think it's fair why HG limit them to not hitting aerial unit
@@Kiasisit's more reasonable to assume they made Flingers like that because they don't want them to completely phase out Artilleryman (splash snipers).
@@ak_nora u got a point, but I would disagree, personally, I think that small range difference should be enough for them to take the niche Good point tho
I really like that HG's solution to powercreep seems to be increasing the mechanical complexity of bosses (just look at Babel and Lucent Arrowhead, for example) instead of just stat bloat.
I agree, but you picked the easiest bosses we've had recently. I think Harold is a better example. His boss requires you to pay attention to the event mechanic otherwise the entire map gets nuked.
To be fair both Degen and Mlynar target air for no reason at all. Mlynar is the only liberator to target air. They could make Irene the only swordmaster to hit air with her levitate theme but no, they went into Degen also hitting air. Hell even Ascalon while not hitting air, slows air units. Antiair powerceep going on for quite some time.
When I mention that Mlynar S3 can target aerial enemies is out of nowhere, someone tells me that Silverash can too. LIKE BRO SILVERASH IS A LORD GUARD, THEY CAN DO RANGED ATTACKS!! RANGED ATTACKS CAN HIT AERIAL ENEMIES!! Cutter's skill and tachanka can also target aerial enemies. Not sure about Bibeak. Ascalon S2 movement speed reduction can actually affect aerial enemies.
@@gargutz907 this is hg's fault for not being consistent over what make an archetype that archetype? Especially when releasing new units. Because they need to make said units do different things
@@BorneoRain-l1j Operator uniqueness is one of the reason but 6* ignoring their subclass mechanic is nothing new, like mountain being one of the firsts 6* to do it.
@@mrf143 lol I forgot monten exists since I've been using exalter and zuo le so often now. Honestly that self healing and 2 blocks feels kinda cheating. Heck, even zuo le 2 block on skill is another example on their inconsistencies of archetype too lol
@@dalgona4819 Personally i think the hate towards Wisadel is an overreaction or a flaw in expectations. It's a gacha game going on 6 years and being upset about powercreep is absurd. And it's not like there weren't rulebreakers almost instantly like Eyja and Mountain
I watch CN players who used chalter, surtr, mlynar without thinking twice. Some of them have choose to not use wisdal because she is so strong and thus boring.
My biggest fear with Wis'adel when her kit was first revealed for CN is that the game would warp around her, basically forcing people to have her and locking new players out of clearing certain stages without having her until she shows up in the spark pool. Luckily, that has not come to pass, but it does create a weird middle ground where some stages are incredibly easy if you have her and incredibly hard if you don't.
bruh there's been like 20 "SUPER MEGA BROKEN OP MUST BUILD INSANE DAMAGE (GAME BREAKING)" over the course of arknights, the game wont revolve over this specific op, it will move on.
"but it create a weird middle ground where some stages are incredibly easy if you have her and incredibly hard if you don't " Well duh, same goes to other ops. where are you even going with this argument?
I’m pulling for her because I’m tired of watching guides for stages thats hard to figure out, with her I might explore the newer stages for my self first and it’s a too hard i just throw Walter at it.
my favorite part is the fact everyone or a majority of the people that know the meme are just calling her Walter to be relating that alter name to breaking bad lmao. We just need someone named exactly Jessie as an operator to pair with her
The way I'm going to do it is, I'm only going to use Wis'adel for trust farms, and nowhere else. And if I want to allow myself to use her for the event, I have to prove to myself that I can clear it without her. That is, assuming I even get her.
@@kyarumomochi5146 same but for different reasons, I really like her because she really checks all my boxes short white hair red eyes witha midriff and a range user aghhhhhhhhhhh GOD holy shit she is perfect
I'm glad they averted the powercreep issue by not scaling up everything to make Wisadel feel needed, since that's a problem a *lot* of gachas have that oft leads to frustration when it starts snowballing and F2P/minimal spenders can't keep up anymore.
I hope that's true, but I'll wait to see it myself when it hits global. I hate when game keeps ramping up difficulty to compensate for their overpowered unit. It's already kinda shit that the first new IS kinda centered around Ines. Those game designs are so player unfriendly. Edit: Theresa boss is pretty bad too. It felt like I was forced to use meta units to DPS race her 2nd phase.
@@ave4622I mean, even for Theresa, you only really need good casters. They don't really have to be meta. I beat her with Amiya, Dusk, as well as Skadi to block the balls, and I don't think they're really considered meta these days.
I feel like the thing that annoys me a little when it comes to broken units like wisadel, is not necessarily that they are broken but its that some people dont understand that u can just not use her if u want. If youre in the late game and pretty much have most of the operators in the game u have so many good picks of units that u can use if u feel like the game has gotten 'too easy'. Broken units are inevitable for all gacha. Sometime u have to play the game how u feel would gave u the most fun whether it be going with niches or even just steam rolling every stage with broken units lol.
I think people just don't really understand that after a certain point you can just pull for whatever you think is fun. Meta doesn't really matter at all aside from CC lmfao
@darkshine1836 like yeah unless it's a CC and you're going for max risk, I doubt it will effect u lmaoo even so absolutely nobody is stopping you from just not using them, i feel like this same thing happened with ling lol
Yeah, Wisadel users on CN did complain the game become too EZ. Making it difficult and scaling baded on her would make things F if HG listen to those a*holes. It will become a problem
I JUST want Logos... And i never got normal W, i want her Walter is too ugly, i dont care for her power so even if i get her, i wont level her I DO use "op" meta units from time to time, but Walter looks so unfun to use that i refuse
your enjoyment of the game is entirely yours and I totally live by this statement as well In fact I sometimes choose not to use the op units in my acc just to give myself a challenge
@@ArgentoNatsu Yeah, everybody can play how they want to and there's nothing wrong with it. Use Walter, use all of them if you want But Arknights does offer a lot more than "Big damage that deletes enemies" with how creative one can get, especially with specialists... I think the issues with DOS were just that most of the rewards were locked behind the most difficult stages in the gamemode and the usual design of “put harder restrictions on yourself by your choice for rewards” notion got completely reversed, and it’s a generally worse thing for most players especially when the “benefits” you pick were barely visible to notice, and they don’t give enough incentives, especialky when full rewards require you to clear everything buffless. Other than that, decent video.
the rewards were shit anyways, I dont really think a bunch of LMD and EXP cards locked behind hard stages is considered good if you have issues beating the mid stages of that game mode lol the reward for most players was the skin and dip lmao
@@oturan9728 you didnt need to touch A-3 not to mention S ... What high bar lmao and besides why thinking about new players for an endgame content event? Or do new players care to 620 for the new ccs ? And they just dont go for the skin lol
@@novyknec1113 yeah it's not for new players and yeah they don't need to touch A3 they need to touch at least A1 and the trauma stage ... Wich isn't too different tbh. You can say what you will but locking the skin aka the most interesting reward of the event so high was BS and you can't even farm the lower stage like a trial of navigator.
The thing about calling her boring because she's too strong are those who have already high lvled accounts who can complete event stages with ease and have a collections of operators who are maxed out (lvls, masteries and modules) so getting resources and team comps are no problem. While new players like me who only have 2 e2 6* stars and 5 e2 4* and doesn't have much variety of ops nor resources to experiment on, WisadeL and Logos are must haves to ease the farming and complete the events(for resources).
Maybe if we, new players have enough variety of ops to complete events (just for maximum rewards) and farm resources fast (like those afk/trust farm guides) then we gladly wont use her if we have the alternatives that can do the same outcome.
@@DarkSideCreon This is what happened to me when Ling released. I got her, leveled her to E260, got her module, used her maybe three times before I realized that the game is just so bloody boring when she is in the squad. Same happened with Mlynar too. I’ll stick to my favourites, thanks. The only new operators that I currently really enjoy using are Ela and Shu. I’m at the point I don’t need Ela for general content (been playing since Obsidian Flame, the very first summer event) but she is a beast in IS (my most played game mode), and Shu is just a very powerful, fun and aesthetically pleasing support unit that is now a cornerstone in most of my squads (except when I play no-block squads which is a thing I like to do).
shes boring because theres nothing interesting anymore behind a copy paste "PRESS BUTTON DELETE EVERYTHING" skill for 31423566th time her only saving grace is S2 that is pretty fun and interesting actually focusing on what slingers gimmick is (mass AoE trash obliteration) char skills is what give them personality. mlynar being silver ash 2 or ray being schwarz 3 or walter being chalter 2 is not a personality ulpinus jumping around the map with S3 is personality or pepe interesting rampup skills(also first 6* bonk hammer) is personality or just the entirety of theresa kit. All of those are really cool and interesting NEW things not copy paste old skill but now dps is 50% higher and theres 2 extra effects also best part of AK is the beginning struggle hands down and trying your hardest to go against the odds ofc I personally started when the only "broken unit" was silver ash (still never used him) and bosses didnt have 5893475646 mechanics and 80% damage reduction and map wide oneshots and perma CC on your ops and 10 phases so new player experience might be a lot funnier now /wall of text
It still will be boring tho. She just deletes everything You skip all new player progression, any fun in trying to finish stages with whatever you have
Your graph feels very accurate for my experience, I’m now at the point where it has shot up again after I got a bunch of good units but that’s only in the context of CC and RA maps kicking my ass instead of story content doing so
Arknights balances around what 4stars can do. Which is why when we gain a new niche 4star is when I start wondering what's going to happen. We got Totter and invisible enemies started getting more complicated. Not just "This kinda weak enemy sneaks up and takes block from your defenders!" anymore. We got Contrail recently in CN so I'm wondering what kind of shenanigans we're gonna get in terms of "Being able to block drones now." It'll start with an event with a gadget around blocking drones. Then after that we'll get a 5star or 6star version of Contrail. Then it'll become a thing that shows up occasionally.
The problem isn't really Wis'adel; it's not even AK's design as a whole, or the risk of meta units warping the game around them (because it hasn't save for maybe Contingency Contract): It's the broader AK Community hubs. (Reddit, Discord especially) Arknights is a PvE Gacha game. This gives it an odd advantage among Gachas in that so long as the core content is well designed (and so far, it has been largely excellent), the random nature of what any new player has access to forces them to adapt and innovate solutions to levels/content as their roster grows. But so many people treat this as a bug rather than a feature. They don't treat the game as a series of challenges, but chores to do so you can get the cool stuff. There are people who buck this trend directly, and I respect the hell out of them for it, but I largely stopped interacting with the popular AK communities because of this subtle, growing air of contempt for players not using meta units to play optimally. It's a real shame because for the first year or so of AK Global, the community was really chill, helpful for new players, and more willing to work around problems than creating them. I genuinely miss it, and realize that we can't have those nice things again.
Thanks for pointing this out, i personally have mixed feelings about this, i personally only stay on youtube comments and i see two groups of people, the first group being people who are just chill, and are having fun playing the game in their way, which is a part of the community i love to interact with. But the second group consists out of people who think their way to play the game is the way everyone should play, people who get when an operator is OP, and people who get mad when the new unit isn’t gamebreaking and tell others they are wrong to enjoy the game with units they like, which is just stupid. But i feel you man, i really do. I’m pretty new myself, but even i am seeing that the second group i mentioned is getting bigger and bigger, which makes me sad as there are a lot of chill people out there.
I think using of operators like using weapons in a fight. Mlynar is like a gun, good range and damage but has a long(ish) cooldown. Surtr is like a flamethrower, more damage, longer cooldown. Degen and Ch'alter are like chainsaws good damage upclose but have short(ish) ranges. W'alter is like bringing a tank to the battle. It has good survivability, hits far powerful shots, and anything it can't hit it can run over.
The point about flingers being stupid (Which is true, who the fuck thought that was a good idea?) made me think: "Why is she even a flinger? Why didn't they just make an entirely new archetype just for her? Wouldn't that give them even less reasons to hold back on her power level?"
The thing is flinger on practice is an insane archtype and their module is extremely good too It allows for immense range, aoe attacks and very good dps and attack speed on basic attacks, the Wisadels difference was that she made it ABSURDLY broken Her basic attack dps is 1.9k literally on par with most afk skills Her s3 aoe is one of the best and shockwaves simply make it more broken!
@@kyarumomochi5146 True, but still. If they had made a new Archetype they could've had all of that... And not worry about the drone thing to begin with. Like, I don't really understand it.
I think wisadel strength is disproportionated. The idea of flinger sniper is aoe dps. Wisadel turn the constant aoe dps into a burst aoe which i had no problem with. However I dont get why they give her skill 3 the ability to generate the shadow thing. This skill doesnt have any drawback why give it even more advantage? I really like the idea of wisadel skill 2. It just make her focus more on what her archetype actually need to do. If only it wasnt overshadowed by the OP stuff that is her skill 3. -Balance idea: Give the shadow a timer. Like lightingale summon so she cant stay perma invis. Then, move the ability to spawn more shadow to her skill 2. As for her skill 3. Its very simple. Make it offensive recovery. The idea is her skill 3 rely a lot on shadow to deal big damage so she had that window until the shadow disapear to deal big damage. This increase the skill floor to use her effectively as it requires timing of her deployment. After the shadow disapear, you can choose to keep her on the field and deal less damage with the next skill cycle or retreat her. Kinda like surtr but you have more agency over it.
this video sums up my thoughts on powercreep in most games lol. powercreep will and always is going to happen in games especially gachas, the only time its a bad thing is when it happens too rapidly or if the overall difficulty eclipses the overall game. Walter is OP yes, but she is one release and the rest of the game is still playable without her. I also just wish people would get over this attachment to powercreep, if a unit is too good the masses complain, if a unit is not too good the masses complain. Truly no wining no matter what
For me it will probably be same with how I use Surtr. I just don't use her where she is not nessessary for me. Will use Wis'adel for the funnies in IS and other places
I appreciate HG for not bending the game around every new broken ops. Thanks to that, the power level of the game stayed around Surtr level (if you don't count Texalter/YatoR) which is just slightly above SA and Eyja with easier placement. Still, I'd like it if one day HG releases content that punishes the player for using "BIG HONKING DAMAGE" instead of taking their time to dismantle the map mechanically.
I am actually worried about the powercreep that Walter will bring the game in the future, with HG creating stages that requires absolute meta (remember DoS and PoO?). It's worrying that people tend to let it slide due to the PvE nature. Not only is Walter unga bunga erase everything meta, she is also a limited operator, which means requires tons of luck. And not everyone will be lucky to get a limited unit due to rate up lies (it's gacha after all). If people are just gonna go light and not to worry about powercreep, HG will have their way of creating even entry stages that will surely require meta to even attempt like Water, Mlynar, Surtr, Degen, etc. And people who only have bad 5 stars and bad 6 stars (e.g. Vigil, Hoolheyak, Viviana) will struggle to clear basic stages to the point they were forced to rely on low rarity guides just to progress. Bonus points if guides will need 2 meta ops minimum. Or maybe a handhold. That is best case scenario. And that's a bad thing because unlucky people will miss out being able to create strategies due to only having bad operators and not meta ops. The only solution so far to put powercreep on hold is to release bosses that outright deletes meta units and can only take damage from bad operators, but that would be another issue of not letting people play with the operators they pulled and build in the first place.
I don't think she's a big deal until I use her 14-21 adverse, she single handle Theresa with full damage reduction (I only had her lv 60 S3M2 and lv2 module). In equivalent, I need Mlynar, Thorns, Ray, Typhon to do the same just a little faster. Both team use Skadi buff.
The way I see it, this unit releasing for the 5th Anniversary is designed more to help new players clear old content in expedient manner than anything else. 2024's snipers have been remarkably strong in general, as well.
I feel like Walter's main difference from other broken characters is that she just HAS TOO MUCH STUFF - AOE that covers almost half the stage - Summons capable of tanking attacks and slowing enemies - Camouflage that protects her from almost any attack that can reach her - BIG DAMAGE - Ammo that avoids any waste of DPS and gives you more control over her rotations - Ability to hit aerial enemies, making her Archetype irrelevant - Solid damage even with the Skill disabled. You could take away half of everything she has and she would still be in the Top 5 of the best characters in the game.
the biggest issue with Wisadel is her camouflage that nullify any drawback of sniper. atleast with bonker damage, chenler will be attacked withnthat close range
I feel like a lot of the hate for Walter comes from people not liking the character herself. I don't know anything about her because I discovered the game recently and am waiting to start playing on the 5th anni. But I've been lurking places where people talk about the game and the number one complaint I have seen is people talking about how dumb she is in the story. I feel like if it had been a different alter of a character people liked they would probably be more forgiving of her power levels. That being said I think she looks really cool and I'm looking forward to getting her. I don't want to ruin my experience so I am planning on using her sparingly or not raising her too high so she doesn't break my game.
I am personally glad that there are some OP units. Even though I pulled for Wis'adel because I love W, and no other reason, its nice to now have a unit that makes things a lot easier. I personally have wanted to play arknights for its story, and I don't like having to look up a guide so I can see what happens next. I have a major skill issue you see,
I am in a weird middle point in which I don't have time to sit, spent hours to try and solve a hard stage on my own and use my own strategies so I mainly use guides. At the same time, I like to put a bit of effort into trying to for example, substitute Mlynar or Chalter or even Surtr used in the guide with my own lower tier operators that I like. I fear what Walter could do to these influx of guides. If I don't have time to sit and solve the stages myself and I will be forced to borrow a Walter to play then it will totally ruin my game style, my game experience and/or my free time management. I may not be in a case most are, I may be in a rare position in how I approach and enjoy the game but I am sure I am not the only one.
I don't mind powercreep in a single player game that much, but when powercreep affects level designs and difficulty, that's a problem. Idk about Arknights, but in some games, they'll ramp up difficulty assuming that everyone plays the same way. It feels really shit.
Im just gonna use wisadel in scenarios where I just simply cannot figure out how to beat the stages, basically using her as a last resort as I don’t like being locked out of content because a stage prior was extremely difficult
I feel like, Wisadel is just going to be a crutch for me. If I try many times, and just cannot beat a stage, I can use her. This is the case that I've done with Chalter, Mlynar, and Degen, they are just mere crutches to get me through the hard stages. I will always try at least 5 times using units I enjoy, until I fall onto those crutches, but usually I never have to bring them into the stage at all. I say this, but I doubt ill be able to build Wisadel for like a year...
Considering the unit releases after Wisadel have been pretty tame power wise for the *most* part, I really genuinely do feel like they just wanted to make something really silly for their 5th anniversary. And like. Honestly? Sure, HG, 5 year's a big milestone. Have your cake, and eat it too. Now imagine if the Walter banner actually performed well saleswise in CN... because it sure did not, compared to other Anniversary banners-
Arknights golden age already over. More and better gacha game are out. People are bored of it, only the hardcore fan stay. Doubt Arknights gonna make much money compare to 2~3years ago.
@@NaganoharaYoimiya-bs7hb better is questionable. Arknights is niche to begin with as all tower defense game are. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Not too mention the trend of open world gacha games.
I don't know how much they get on other anniversary, But didn't Walter Banner make 35mil in china, beating Genshin in that month ? I'm not going to debate if this powercreep is good or bad for the game, But I'm sure this one powercreep banner made them a lot of money.
@@lunanueva-y3k yep they made 30mil+ for sure. And even whenever it's a limited banner Japan usually at around 8mil+. Global is a obviously behind. But limited banner will usually made 4mil+ iirc. The main issue is wisadel alone is already insanly broken but imagin her in a buff team ( looking at skadi xDD ) Also about the point about balancing and broken units,- everyone can decide on their own if they wanna use her.
Nah, this is a dumb take of W'alter. I seriously doubt newbies are going to clear content with specialized mechanics we have in stages these days with her.
What I really don't like is her having camo + the thickest rocks on Terra that soak dmg and shoot back. It's so overkill. That said, her S3 targeting air is pretty cool in a vacuum. It's like Cutter (who makes a surprise appearance at 5:00, hooray!) having a special anti-aerial clause in her S2 even though she can't hit them normally. I like stuff like that.
Im pulling just bc shes limited but I have a maxed chalter and and a p3 ling and they've been collecting dust, for me, they game is way more fun when I get to think about solving a stage. Maybe new players will enjoy her a lot more, my lvl 115 account can clear anything really so fun is what I am after now.
i dont mind it. because someday they will make more mobs with passives of returning damage, it will be funny because they wont have any idea how to clear it without wis
No, because most afk and such guides won't use her. Just look at current guides. It's still early operator in them. No Chalter, Texalter, etc. Limited OP are avoided. Sure someone can make a Wišalder only guides, but I doubt Kyo, or oyuki will.
@@Valiwayfer I think a good point to take from the OP’s comment is that as long as there are guides coming out that uses mostly 4-5* ops + 1-2 old 6* ops to clear event stages is fine and powercreep is not problematic since the game does not force players to pull for these overpowered ops. Which I agree, it’s a PvE game and one player’s decision on how to play the game does not affect others. As long as the game proves low-rarity ops can manage its stages, then powercreep is an irrelevant topic.
The good thing is you don't need to pull for Wisadel if you do not want to though a free pull is a free pull and instead enjoy the game whatever you have assuming you know what you are doing. Personally I have decided to not roll Wisadel though like I said a free pull is a free pull (unless rngesus will give me Wisadel with good lucksack) because I had overspend on my account and got so many operators and they are raised so ultimately I can play whatever I want to. I might want to roll for Ulpianus cause he is cool.
I don't care too much if an operator is broken or not, what matters to me most in the end is the design, and if they're fun to use. Sure, some of them may break the game a bit, or quite a bit, but if they're fun and I can figure out a stage by myself I'll be satisfied. :)
My way of looking at wis is as a get-out-of-jail free card that can act as a bypass on stages you simply don't have the time to attempt or want to attempt. Sure she breaks the game but its how you decide to use her.
great video but there are some points I don't agree with: 1. I think saying she "breaks" the rules of her archetype is silly and very reductionist to what archetypes are, you're basically defining every flinger by just their inability to hit air but what about all the other things they have in common? The fact that all 3 of them have the same range, they have stats that are around the same range, the fact that all 3 of them have an RNG aspect inside their kit, the fact that all 3 of them have multi hit attacks or that they all have aoe attacks? Rosmontis is able to block enemies with her s3 despite being a ranged unit and no other flinger can do that, does that mean she breaks the rules of the game? or is that just another iteration of the same general concept that is the flinger archetype? Wisadel is broken and i think the game would be better without her but I don't agree that she breaks the rules of flingers just because she can hit air when we have other units like rosmontis who can do stuff no ones else in their archetype does but people don't care 2. I also disagree with the notion they're not balancing the game around her. Sure they're not making enemies to match her stats but ever since her release you can kind guess what most new bosses look like kit wise, it's usually a shield that can absorb damage to protect the boss from being obliterated by her combined with a global range attack that also damages units in the surrounding tiles so they can still damage her if the summons are present and they'll add something like a stun with it if they really want to incapacitate her like they did with the Rosmontis boss. Enemy and stage design also changed to fit her in, you can notice on a bunch of the newer events that they'll usually make enemies that try to go against her, Ulpianus event had really tanky guys to make her waste her shots on them that then spawned really fast guys that could go through her range since she takes too long to recharge or the current victoria event where they made enemies with shields to absorb her damage or like they did on the summer event where Wisadel can waste her shots on the green tiles. These changes aren't necessarily bad but over time it makes so every new event gets stale design wise and I really think the current stage design of the newer events is inferior and less creative than what we used to have back in the day. 3. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing if they were to balance the game around her more. A problem I see with the current design philosophy is that they just make everything baby easy to where it's honestly gotten boring, if you go back to shit like chap 11 that's a relatively easy chapter but if you try to just brute force a stage like h11-4 you're probably gonna get stomped (see vifer's h11-4 videos for an example of that) because you don't know the mechanics but nowadays it just feels like mechanics don't matter at all and you can just brute force anything you want, even the "hardest stages in the game", just look at h14-4 to see how that stage is a fucking joke compared to most H stages they used to release so it kinda feels like mechanics don't matter at all nowadays and everything is just bruteforce, even what used to be a pretty hard set of stages like the H stages
@@Storn_ Just about point 2: literally none of those are actually true She dominates IS5 to point of it beeing a breeze with Wisadel and path of life boss if, anything, absolutely COUNTERED by wisadel because of how boss works, you need to kill alot if big stat enemies wich Wisadel can do greatly So far none of the new content actually does anything against her, most recent event has her obliterating the boss in a single skill cycle
@@kyarumomochi5146 like i said they dont counter her with stats but they design a lot of the new mechanics around her, it's just that they underutilize the mechanics so much that it doesnt matter in the end because she can just brute force anything but seeing every event have enemies with one or 2 mechanics that work against her really shows that they try to make anti W stuff now
@@Storn_ The problem is that literally only mechanic that works against her is reflect wich happens to work against most units to begin with, they cant make a CH9 where Surtr was crippled, she alr does everything and has no flaws so the weaknesses they try to exploit has to be toned down so every unit in the game doesnt get impacted hard by it wich is why she is unironically dominating all these content VB is probably their latest example and even that didnt work, a kit like Wisadel just cant be balanced around, she doesnt have a key "weakness" like Surtr to make something out of (Chapter 9) All HG can do is either give in and make content that invalidates MOST operators solely because of Wisadel or accept her being a behemoth and try making stages without her in mind (wich they seem to be confused at going from last events)
@@kyarumomochi5146 really disagree, shit like EB on wd-ex-8 or maps that have more going on inside them like h12-4 or h11-4 work fine against her even if she still is one of the best option against those because it's not about making something that just invalidates wisadel or "hard" content it's about making stuff that's requires more thought to be tackled other than just brute forcing it every time but all we get nowadays is mechanics that kinda counter her but they're too afraid to commit to them but they also refuse to make any interesting map even on ex-8 stages most of the time
@@Storn_ I mean those stages are hard for most other DPSes too and Wisadel ends up performing the best, shes a massively powerful aoe/st damage dealer, its near impossible to shut her down unless you make reflect enemies wich has proven to work. I hate being new and broke from both the limited banners we just had. It feels like a sleezy cash grab this game hasn’t had as bad previously, according to veterans I talked to.
Arknight's gacha economy often feels like it's designed around the idea F2Ps shouldn't touch anything that isn't a limited banner, which only come around once every 3 months or so So having 3 limited banners almost back-to-back, with 2 being "true limited" and the 3rd being meta-defining, is BRUTAL Looking at CN we should be returning to the normal trend, plus no new unit is as gamebreaking as Wis
@@Konpekikaminari With my average luck, as f2p, I have 90% of characters and went 300+ pulls on Walter banner for Specter Alter (My favorite character that I couldn't get before, since I was new and poor). I say just hang in there, plan your spending months ahead and save for you really want.
That is probably one of the things i hate the most: Her ignoring the archetype drawback by having her skill 3 allow to target air units... It would have been infinitely better to only have the AoE of that attack hit air units, and even then it would be way too busted because of its range. Honestly, just give me a Rosmontis and Frostleaf Alter already, those two are supposed to be strong, especially Rosmontis. I wouldn't be nearly as mad about Wis'Adel being thinhg if they gave us those two Alters, i jut want Lore Accurate Rosmontis and Frostleaf "FrostNova 2.0"
I don't understand why everyone has a so mid opinion on the CC space, I guess is in fear of haters?. Power creep is necessary in this kind of games, but can be done the right way, with side-grades and offering different niches of best performance, rising the overall performance little by little, the could have used the modules to keep old units somewhat relevant, but the new units often get also huge benefits from these modules. W Alter rises the bar so high, damages the game mid-term a HUGE amount, will make anyone that doesn't have her miserable if we get hard enough stages, and also trivializes all content for everyone else. Yeah you can make all the excuses you want but is not good for the game, like at all.
inevitably players will play in a way they find fun. wisadel isnt fun, but for me after the fun way doesnt work and im out of time i use the broken units to get it done and get the medals. but its always more fun to use the less strong units and try different tactics that doesnt brute force it. ill still pull on her banner because i want to spark for OG w so ill probably get her anyway. but i skipped mlynar because he looked boring too. saving for ops that are more fun to use. now i do have mlynar and i still use silverash instead unless i really need the damage and can't figure out any other way to beat the stage
She's still not really a gamebreaker, after playing with her on CN, she's great, but not a use operator to win level of great, at least on the end game hard stuff, where it's more about the mechanics than pure damage. And also, it's a PvE game and powercreep is not really an issue, and some people who screams that it's gonna kill the interest in the game is totally wrong, because like, Surt, Chalter, Mlynar and other meta ops are years old already and the game is still alive
Also, what I found funny is that how many people cry about Wisadel, but cool with Logos, despite him being extremely broken too, his laser of death on s2 can kill almost anyone, even with high res.
@@majo_alice lol what are you talking about, she is ABSOLUTELY game breaking. She literally solos ISes and turned RA2 into a hot joke also is the best unit for general and SSS modes Claiming she isnt gamebreaking is just delusion. Sorry but she literally is.
@@kyarumomochi5146 you still need someone else to play normally, and not every boss and every game mode is beatable just with her. She's immensely strong, but without understanding it's still gonna be useless, and again, the game is not hard for players with big accounts, even my CN account without her and Logos can clean most of the content, complaining about her is just useless. Also, what I want to add is that people are allowed to pull and upgrade elany character they want, I see an occurring issue in the AK community, that people are getting shamed for liking Texalt, Chalt, Mlynar, like they don't play the game properly and everyone must be some nichenights or at least use some old ops that significantly weaker, like Phantom instead of Texalt and Yato, and I think this is much worse than any meta op HG can release
@@majo_alice Im not complaining about her. i have the exact same opinion as you regarding meta! people cry about strong ops and it makes no sense to me, let people use whatever they want! But Wisadel IS gamebreaking. now clearing content without strong ops isnt new, 4/5 star or badknights clears exist. you dont need the best ops in the game BUT that has nothing to do with their actual impact on meta scene, Wisadel is absolutely game breaking on that regard, more than any unit has ever done!
i dont think any problem with wisadel since its been a years we got chen alter and mlynar that can do high damage and control ground and air easily. the only hope i can think is that hg should prepare more harder and challenging game mechanics in stages so that the player may be a creative again.
Not really a bad thing because this game have like hudnreds ops which mean you have many option the way you play. To call an operator in AK game breaking the operator must capable to full survive on their own, no need help of other ops, just full solo at all to clear all stages, yes include the new CC stages but as you see that is luckily not the case. Used to remember people getting mad over Surtyr, Chengun, Mylnar and serveral limited ops but all of that suddenly getting forgotten 2 weeks or a months after because they realize they still need other operator to make them usable in most fitting situation tell me why Myrthle, Saga and Ines used alot despide not being a game breaking ops? Because they are good unit to gather DP earlier for other ops in your rooster in stages. This game fanbase are hella weird, most casual are not toxic and pretty much represent what real casual player should be, still know how to solve each stages without guide and such (unless they lazy and want to quickly finish it, can't blame them some stages took times to clear). This whole "drama" is just a nothing burger, I do have issue with their 5 star operator kit balancing till now since launch but the game is not as terrible as it sound, well unless you are new player I can understand the pain grinding up until you reach midgame and end game where you can slack off little more to prevent getting bored which player often overused burnout which is understandable. One thing I do advice player who want to keeo stick with the game or too naive partake unnecessary arguments be more perceptive and stable that is all you need.
Who thought this was a good idea my problem with her is not her dmg it's the survivability why df is her summon thingy so tanky and have camo im flabbergasted
I think she was made for players like me specifically, despite playing since launch, I never could grasp all the mechanics properly and would spend so much time on a stage that I go insane, hi, yes, I am stupid 💥💥😔
There will without a doubt be a lot of much worse newcomers who got through the game using Wisadel and never learning the game which cause them to enjoy the game less when they're not using Wisadel, has always been a problem with any game that decide to make the earlier game much easier through more powerful means resulting in them complaining later on that the late game is no longer fun and how it becomes too complex to be worth playing. But at that point is just a "Pick your poison" thing, like how you can choose to always use guide or just drop it mid-way and being a single-player gacha game, you decide how you want to play. You can stick to always playing Flagpipe + Meta unit or just start finding new means to enjoy the game with combo you really love using. I like playing with combo like Aak-Penance or Aak-Mizuki and just avoid units who can AoE nuke 90% of the enemy in 1 skill cycle and it's fun and that's really just how I choose to play. The one part I think Wisadel will really ruin are the "Challenge Mode" type of deal because she is so powerful it puts heavy burder on the designers and it's really funny that CC Mode disappear for months after Wisadel was introduced. But it seems Arknight know how to avoid that now and that's by expanding the game out in many directions instead of just sticking to one thing and building over it. You no longer just playing "Defense the box, put Wisadel, win" anymore, you can go ahead and play IS where you can beat it without Wisadel if you know what you're doing because anyone can become broken with the right relics or go play RA mode where some characters become much stronger because they serve exactly what you need at the time to beat the objective. So Wisadel may end up being really bad for the "Challenge" side of the main game but she's not really a problem for AK as a whole as long as HG keep doing something new with it instead of just limiting the game to simple designed stage where you protect the box, kill a boss and be done with it. It only truly become a problem when they restrict themselves to that and they can only fight their own powercreep with bloated numbers just to keep it challenging. Make the journey portion fun again instead of just putting everything into a single fight between the player bloated team and the boss bloated stat.
Do you put subtitles in your videos? I would like it if you consider putting it because things you say is blurry in the ears and I can't seems to understand what you say 😭 no hate it's a suggestion
5:25 I have to partially disagree with that topic. The only time HG broke this rule is on ChenAlter. 1. HG for all I experience so far, adjusted their operator strength according to their lore. Ex. Vanguard Reed is just so-so (dissapointing for mamy), because at that point, Reed is being apathethic to her own life. 2. HG did not broke their own rule by introducing outlier in an archetype. That rule never existed in HG in the first place. Ex. This is very easy to spot, since the early days of Arknights. Let's take Brawler, when Mountain is first introduced, he become the 1st brawler that is able to have 2 block (S2), and increased ranged (S3) The pattern I see so far is that, HG is loyal to the archetype when it is at lower rarity. And operators gain gimmicks and become outlier the higher rarity they are. And this rule had never been broken since day 1.
I'm a bad Arknights players, so I obviously enjoy having broken characters... however, I'm trying more and more to use NON meta ones: it's funnier and you need to actually think of what you're doing.
personally the downside i see here is that the more the operator is strong the less synergy they have. ofc dmg buffers usually help every meta op but new "powercreep" units usually invovle multiple roles so they dont require others and by that have less synergy. look at units like tsukinogi, yea her skill cycle is horrible but if we didnt had silverash or ines she would have seen much more usage in advance content (theres sceane but she requires two deployments). how many times have pramnix was used for res reduction? most of the top arts dps nowdays have res reduction anyways. decel binders that have multiple cc usage? suzuren is the only one used nowdays since she got slow and fragile. overall what i hate isnt the bigger numbers but the fact that most of the "powercreeping" units have too much utility as well that make many of the synergy commonly used before redundant because there built into there kit
I’m at the point I don’t need Ela for general content (been playing since Obsidian Flame, the very first summer event) but she is a beast in IS (my most played game mode), and Shu is just a very powerful, fun and aesthetically pleasing support unit that is now a cornerstone in most of my squads (except when I play no-block squads which is a thing I like to do).

ulpinus jumping around the map with S3 is personality or pepe interesting rampup skills(also first 6* bonk hammer) is personality or just the entirety of theresa kit. Arknights balances around what 4stars can do.
Which is why when we gain a new niche 4star is when I start wondering what's going to happen.
We got Totter and invisible enemies started getting more complicated. Not just "This kinda weak enemy sneaks up and takes block from your defenders!" anymore.
We got Contrail recently in CN so I'm wondering what kind of shenanigans we're gonna get in terms of "Being able to block drones now."
It'll start with an event with a gadget around blocking drones.
(Reddit, Discord especially)
Arknights is a PvE Gacha game.
The thing is flinger on practice is an insane archtype and their module is extremely good too
It allows for immense range, aoe attacks and very good dps and attack speed on basic attacks, the Wisadels difference was that she made it ABSURDLY broken
Her basic attack dps is 1.9k literally on par with most afk skills
Her s3 aoe is one of the best and shockwaves simply make it more broken!
-Balance idea:
Give the shadow a timer.
This is an amazingly well put together video. The pacing is great, but still very informative and the editing is good too.
this video sums up my thoughts on powercreep in most games lol. powercreep will and always is going to happen in games especially gachas, the only time its a bad thing is when it happens too rapidly or if the overall difficulty eclipses the overall game.
Gentle reminder that pulling her is OPTIONAL, using her is also OPTIONAL just being sure this is clear.
What if you want Logos but you got her? Hmmm
Walter maybe horrendously broken, but I'm still everlasting horrendously thirsty 🥵🥵🥵
The way I see it, this unit releasing for the 5th Anniversary is designed more to help new players clear old content in expedient manner than anything else. 2024's snipers have been remarkably strong in general, as well.
Veterans will beg to differ. They said, Wiš'adel will ruin newbies learning curve lmao
Kinda glad I came back after a year hiatus with like 200 pulls sitting in my account in time for Walter / Logos lol
I feel like Walter's main difference from other broken characters is that she just HAS TOO MUCH STUFF
- AOE that covers almost half the stage
- Summons capable of tanking attacks and slowing enemies
- Camouflage that protects her from almost any attack that can reach her
- BIG DAMAGE
- Ammo that avoids any waste of DPS and gives you more control over her rotations
- Ability to hit aerial enemies, making her Archetype irrelevant
- Solid damage even with the Skill disabled.
You could take away half of everything she has and she would still be in the Top 5 of the best characters in the game.
Nah if u take out her aoe and DPS she will become the most mid unit in the game 😂
Damn, i never know she can hit aerial too x.x thats too much i think 😂
@@homina.homina did you not watch the video you're commenting under?
@@CereaIxD cause i watched the video, its the first time i know about it, becaus shes the same type like rosmontis, cant hit aerial,
the biggest issue with Wisadel is her camouflage that nullify any drawback of sniper. atleast with bonker damage, chenler will be attacked withnthat close range
Same, I am also waiting for the 5th anniversary to start playing arknight
Thx for the video!
holy shit your audio is so low i cant even hear it with max volume
anyway good video and insight
w is basically HG's favourite child
Im in babel afterglow and just excited to grind the main theme to reach episode 14 eventually
Future event trying to nerf Wisadel be like:
*removes ranged tiles*
Im just gonna use wisadel in scenarios where I just simply cannot figure out how to beat the stages, basically using her as a last resort as I don’t like being locked out of content because a stage prior was extremely difficult
I hope I get wis so she can sit at level 1 forever next to ling and degen
@@NaganoharaYoimiya-bs7hbThe irony of a genshin frog trying to doompost an actually good gacha, lol
I don't know how much they get on other anniversary,
But didn't Walter Banner make 35mil in china, beating Genshin in that month ?
I'm not going to debate if this powercreep is good or bad for the game,
But I'm sure this one powercreep banner made them a lot of money.
@@lunanueva-y3k yep they made 30mil+ for sure. And even whenever it's a limited banner Japan usually at around 8mil+. Global is a obviously behind. But limited banner will usually made 4mil+ iirc. That's a hell lot more than the majority of the gacha games in the market.
All in all, for being a niche game, AK is having far longer life and loyal fans than non ak player actually think
I'll be doing what I did with mlynar, build them to use if i run out of options but never actually use them in 99% of scenarios
Im not worried about anything at this point because...
....I'm broke, and that's a bad thing.
i dont mind it. because someday they will make more mobs with passives of returning damage, it will be funny because they wont have any idea how to clear it without wis
No, because most afk and such guides won't use her. Just look at current guides. It's still early operator in them. No Chalter, Texalter, etc. Limited OP are avoided. Sure someone can make a Wišalder only guides, but I doubt Kyo, or oyuki will.
Why use guide at end game?
Relying on kyo forever is not really fun
Kyo might not, Oyuki almost certainly will.
@@ValiwayferI mean if someone ever needs one it's a good thing the option is there.
One six star clears for those without good rosters.
Only been playing for a week and im already saving up for her banner hahaha
My way of looking at wis is as a get-out-of-jail free card that can act as a bypass on stages you simply don't have the time to attempt or want to attempt. Sure she breaks the game but its how you decide to use her.
great video but there are some points I don't agree with:
1. Wisadel is broken and i think the game would be better without her but I don't agree that she breaks the rules of flingers just because she can hit air when we have other units like rosmontis who can do stuff no ones else in their archetype does but people don't care
@@Storn_ Just about point 2: literally none of those are actually true
She dominates IS5 to point of it beeing a breeze with Wisadel and path of life boss if, anything, absolutely COUNTERED by wisadel because of how boss works, you need to kill alot if big stat enemies wich Wisadel can do greatly
So far none of the new content actually does anything against her, most recent event has her obliterating the boss in a single skill cycle
@@kyarumomochi5146 like i said they dont counter her with stats but they design a lot of the new mechanics around her, it's just that they underutilize the mechanics so much that it doesnt matter in the end because she can just brute force anything but seeing every event have enemies with one or 2 mechanics that work against her really shows that they try to make anti W stuff now
@@Storn_ The problem is that literally only mechanic that works against her is reflect wich happens to work against most units to begin with, they cant make a CH9 where Surtr was crippled, she alr does everything and has no flaws so the weaknesses they try to exploit has to be toned down so every unit in the game doesnt get impacted hard by it wich is why she is unironically dominating all these content
VB is probably their latest example and even that didnt work, a kit like Wisadel just cant be balanced around, she doesnt have a key "weakness" like Surtr to make something out of (Chapter 9)
All HG can do is either give in and make content that invalidates MOST operators solely because of Wisadel or accept her being a behemoth and try making stages without her in mind (wich they seem to be confused at going from last events)
My point is that the "counters" ur putting up hurt other units even more than Wisadel, spesificly hurting her requires a drawback for high damage pershot or somehow wasting her shots wich isnt that easy to do
Be me playing Arknights for 3 years
Having chalter, surtr,ling

she's pretty good but i want afk operators more and use my best strat oyuki and kyostin
When does this banner arrives?
Wisadel is my 2nd erase button like Texalter
I hate being new and broke from both the limited banners we just had. It feels like a sleezy cash grab this game hasn’t had as bad previously, according to veterans I talked to.
Arknight's gacha economy often feels like it's designed around the idea F2Ps shouldn't touch anything that isn't a limited banner, which only come around once every 3 months or so
So having 3 limited banners almost back-to-back, with 2 being "true limited" and the 3rd being meta-defining, is BRUTAL
Looking at CN we should be returning to the normal trend, plus no new unit is as gamebreaking as Wis
there's dunmeshi colab coming so we are having a limited banner every 2 months from now lmao
Which endgame modes are you talking about
@@majo_alice lol what are you talking about, she is ABSOLUTELY game breaking. She literally solos ISes and turned RA2 into a hot joke also is the best unit for general and SSS modes
Claiming she isnt gamebreaking is just delusion.
But Wisadel IS gamebreaking. now clearing content without strong ops isnt new, 4/5 star or badknights clears exist. you dont need the best ops in the game BUT that has nothing to do with their actual impact on meta scene, Wisadel is absolutely game breaking on that regard, more than any unit has ever done!
i keep hearing money grab which is true now im just expecting to get logos...
i dont think any problem with wisadel since its been a years we got chen alter and mlynar that can do high damage and control ground and air easily. the only hope i can think is that hg should prepare more harder and challenging game mechanics in stages so that the player may be a creative again.
People like Kyostinv is the living proof that Wis'adel being broken is irrelevant
And dr silvergun, guy plays with only 4*'s, and he clears almost everything
Yeah, that guy helped me beat some of the stages, he's awesome
Image that hg just lower the rate for mr walter when his out
HG should just introduce a new 7* rarity.
i regfuse to call her "Walter" shes Wiz'Adel with all the fancy letters
Who thought this was a good idea my problem with her is not her dmg it's the survivability why df is her summon thingy so tanky and have camo
im flabbergasted
I think she was made for players like me specifically, despite playing since launch, I never could grasp all the mechanics properly and would spend so much time on a stage that I go insane, hi, yes, I am stupid 💥💥😔
And no, I didnt get her, I am still too broke 🏃
great video
also IS5 isnt hard without wisadel lmao i think thats mostly just skill issue
Most likely skill issue lmao
Wisadel is like orlandu in final fantasy tactics, make every stage easier 😂

I have to partially disagree with that topic.
Let's take Brawler, when Mountain is first introduced, he become the 1st brawler that is able to have 2 block (S2), and increased ranged (S3)
The pattern I see so far is that, HG is loyal to the archetype when it is at lower rarity. And operators gain gimmicks and become outlier the higher rarity they are. And this rule had never been broken since day 1.
So when her banner is coming to Global server?
Walter is inevitable
Wisadel is coming, yes its a bad thing because I dont have enough pull to spark ;-;
hi mochi! can I ask where you find the transparent chibi sprites you used in the intro?
Do remember that Wisadel’s raw dps is twice the amount of the next highest in the game
I'm a bad Arknights players, so I obviously enjoy having broken characters... however, I'm trying more and more to use NON meta ones: it's funnier and you need to actually think of what you're doing.
Wisadel is not powercreep. She is just a gamebreaker. All other units are useless in the face of Wisadel.
She can't reveal invisibility, so Ines is still useful.
I think the issue is that if Wisadel did literally 50% of her current dps, she still would be an incredible unit. That's just a bit crazy...
personally the downside i see here is that the more the operator is strong the less synergy they have.
ofc dmg buffers usually help every meta op but new "powercreep" units usually invovle multiple roles so they dont require others and by that have less synergy.
look at units like tsukinogi, yea her skill cycle is horrible but if we didnt had silverash or ines she would have seen much more usage in advance content (theres sceane but she requires two deployments).
how many times have pramnix was used for res reduction? most of the top arts dps nowdays have res reduction anyways.
decel binders that have multiple cc usage? suzuren is the only one used nowdays since she got slow and fragile.
overall what i hate isnt the bigger numbers but the fact that most of the "powercreeping" units have too much utility as well that make many of the synergy commonly used before redundant because there built into there kit
