Just because I feel like Alaric is very underrated. I’ve seen so many people say that Hope is Alaric’s 3rd daughter and completely forget that Alaric took care of Elena and Jeremy like they were his own.

@Samreen Kaur If you’re being technical Elena is also his daughter because he was married to her mother. That makes him her stepfather because they never officially divorced.
He is also a father figure to Hope and Jeremy because he took care of them and cared for them when they needed it the most. That is what makes him their dad/father, parents aren’t just based on blood.

I like how Elena, Jeremy, and Hope are also his “kids” because he looked after them and cared for them. Although with Elena and Jeremy his role to them was very slept on, especially towards the end, I would’ve liked to see more of a relationship with him and jer since elena was always doing her own thing and Jeremy really needed an adult figure more, Elena was very independent and always doing her own thing with the salvatores and vamp drama
Ric was always a father, a father figure! That is his job! Before the twins, he was like a second father to Elena and Jeremy and now except Lizzie and Josie, his real daughters, he is like a second father to Hope and all the kids at the school!

This is such a sweet tribute to his relationship with his kids, adopted and biological. Amazing job!
Why did it take so long for me to come across this video!?! One of the things I love about Alaric's character is exactly this - the kids he's taken in and helped become the people they are now. He's not perfect but he's done so much for all of them, even when they don't realize it.
I mean, Hope alone is shaped so much because of Alaric (and Hayley) even more so than Klaus. Her heroics, her selfless service, her protective, compassionate streak, her moral compass (she strays, but she is her parents daughter, so of course she does), the emotional support she so obviously needs so she isn't lost like her father had become. That's all Alaric (I love Hayley - but she has a long streak of ruthless cunning self-service based off her own life experiences that would color Hope's own character if she alone had raised Hope - so I credit Alaric with Hope's more selfless compassionate side).

Ric's adopted, biological, and surrogate kids all in one! He might not always make the best decisions, but he really is just #doinghisbest. Also I love how weirdly intertwined everyone is. It's a beautiful mess but it's their beautiful complicated family tree mess!

I find this so beautiful.. Alaric was never my favorite but I adore him with the twins, and with Hope and before that with the gilberts - taking care of them shaped him to be a good dad (although i think legacies sometimes don't do good job in that department when it comes to writing).

I mean technically he isn’t. He was with Jenna and that was Elena and Jeremy’s aunt. But after she died, he became their legal guardian. So I mean he’s practically a second dad to them but he’s not really their step dad. Kinda like he takes care of Hope and cares about her like he does Lizzie and Josie. But that’s what I love so much about Alaric is that he takes in these kids and loves them like his own.
