    So I got these about 6 years ago and finally just replaced them. You hit the nail on the head with this one.... yeah ok this is probably such an old video you forget you even did it lol.
    Biggest complaint and the reason for replacing was that mic.

    For me, Sennheiser has the best sound signature overall in any situation. But that's just my personal preference.

    I really wish Linus would make some more reviews of CPU coolers and fans. I always enjoyed the videos where he actually tested them and was really hoping to see one for the swiftech h320 especially. Lately it seems like everything is a little less technical and a little more mainstream.

      Max Wang
      "An audiophile is a person enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction.[1]
      Audiophile values may be applied at all stages of music reproduction: the initial audio recording, the production process, and the playback, which is usually in a home setting."
      "A key goal of audiophiles is to capture the experience of a live musical performance in a room with good acoustics, and reproduce it at home. It is widely agreed that this is very difficult and that even the best-regarded recording and playback systems rarely, if ever, achieve it."

      I currently use the Plantronics RIG headset, and as I was comparing it to the Razer Kraken I noticed that the Razer headset sounded like crap, both from my computer and from my i9300 phone. The sound quality is incredibly bassy but it sounds muddy, while the Plantronics headset shines in definition and balance. Really a shame since Razer makes very good mice and keyboards.

      Oh, that's not a bad choice, as I understand the 780 and the RIG have the same speaker driver, so it should sound just as balanced. Nice purchase.

    As a "discerning audio snob" who goes for flat frequency response curves these would not be for me, but I would have liked to have seen a side with this headphones curve, probably not the most useful criticism because I would be in the minority that can read one, but it would have been nice to see. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pros that I have had for almost a decade now and I really like them. The only upgrade I could foresee is a pair of stax earspeakers.

    People, I bought these, and if you want an honest opinion I'm sure for the price you could get something better. The sound and bass is really good, but the only thing I found annoying is how uncomfortable they are. They do not move to the sides, only to adjust the ear cup height. So, if you wear them for 30 mins to an hour, your ears are going to hurt. They look awesome and have pretty good sound, but they are not comfortable at all. Hope I help people wanting to buy.

    • @EvilMmM

      @InfinityFofus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MmM Well, yes. I was only generalizing the fact. And compared to some other headphones, I am sure people will find them uncomfortable. Razer could really have done something about this, I have the Tiamat headset and it is extremely comfortable.

    • @alphaqnorman
      @alphaqnorman 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on how large your ears are,even my ears hurt from wearing the razer kraken pro for 2 straight hours but thats just because my ear lobes are quite large.so i wouldnt complain much about discomfort in my prespective.But the performance is good though. :D

    Linus# "Why are you still watching this video at this point?"; Well I am still watching because just because it is the internet it is still rude to cut someone off just because some things are not 100% relatable with yourself, I like watching your reviews I even watch the ones that I have no personal interest in such as this one. I watch them just for the fact that its another quality review from the channel I turn to for info about the goings on when it comes IT products.
    I guess you can say I am still watching because you present things in an interesting light and with enough detail sooo yea, have a good day.

    • @Surtak
      @Surtak 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heh, same thing here actually. I spent the entirety of the video thinking to myself how my current 300 USD headphones are flat out better than these with the build quality to boot, but I still listened to what he has to say.

    MINI REIVEW:
    Just got these because i didn't want to use my high end headphones for gaming and regular use. I've now listened to them while gaming and listening to music. I've tested it with different amplifiers from low to high end and straight from a phone and computer.
    It's the worst audio experience i've ever had plain and simple. The "bass" if you want to call it that, BOOMS away inside your skull, that's the feeling i get, as these are closed headphones and the low end on this headphone is raised to a perverted degree.
    If you like any kind of good sound i would not recommend a product from razer, as i have tried several of their products and they all have about the same signature of sound.
    Even if you like very bass heavy headphones you should not go for these as the bass they produce can only be described accurately as noise. It sounds like you're inside a tin can and there's a nuclear war going on outside.
    This headphone is as far from neutral, clean, punchy, and rythmic sound as you'll ever get, and if i had to listen to this product for another millisecond, i would consider myself in heartwrenching torment.
    DONT BUY.

      Arif Yusof You're welcome. If you're looking for gaming headphones go for sennheiser, akg or audio technica. If you're getting them for music primarily, go to the head fi website and search for top headphones. You'll find some good ones in there.

  • @ColeMarkusen
    @ColeMarkusen 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Build quality looks pretty good, not sure how well they would do comfort wise for extended wear though. Cups look a bit small for those with bigger ears, perhaps I'm wrong. As far as the price, not overly terrible given the other options out there in terms of trendy looks. But I certainly wouldn't recommend those that want better sound for the price. Don't have anything against them though.

    not sure "Razer" and "audiophile" can be used in the same sentence really. and i don't entirely see what market razer is aiming for with these headphones? they aren't audiophile headphones due to colourful sound signature, and they aren't a gaming headset due to the lack of a built in mic and nothing higher than stereo reproduction? kind of seems to me like you're just paying for build quality.

    • @hammuhr
      @hammuhr 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Build quality, aesthetics, people who don't communicate in-game with a headset. It would also pair well with their laptop for that gaming/business application/look thing. I think they're trying to target the people who need something that looks really clean, but want performance for games.

    • @tigerfu9432
      @tigerfu9432 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have the siberia elites, i returned them a week ago because they have a rather flat sound signature unlike the bass heavy headphones i prefer. And another thing about the elites are that they are not as comfortable as you think due to the drivers being rather close to the ear. Its all down to preference but i would suggest looking at the razer adaro line for being cheap, going looking and a decent sound quality

      I have the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros and the Sennheiser HD 558s, and I had the Razer Kraken headset for a little while, but I couldn't stand the bass. It was just too much, even when listening to dubstep, electro and so on, because the vocals disappeared from thoese genres as well. The Krakens are good for gaming, but again, the bass is a bit much, making it harder to hear enemies, team mates and so on. For instance, with my HD 558, everything is very detailed and crisp. I can "see" enemies just by hearing them.

    Audiophile and gaming cannot coexist.
    I doubt I would ever trust Razer with "Audiophile" headphones. The fact that they made "Audiophile" headphones (solid ID and build quality, marketing, ect) and decided to tune them for gaming, shows they still have a lot of growing up to do.

    • @NickBaysingar

      I agree. These headphones look MIGHTY attractive. I love the aluminum materials and sleek design. But I have to agree with what Linus said. These should have definitely been geared towards gaming instead of Razer bothering to appeal to audiophiles. No actual audiophile is going to even bother with a headset from a company that's only known for its gaming-centric peripherals. They'll look to the serious companies like Sennheiser or Beyer Dynamics that have a much richer history in high-end audio. Razer simply doesn't have any kind of status in the audiophile community. They should have put in a mic that attaches via 3.5mm aux like in other gaming headsets have. They could implement a little plug for the mic's aux port so you can cover it up if you want to use these in public. That way you don't have to look like a dork. You could definitely slap on an Ant Lion Mod Mic, but that's another $40 on top of the $300 price tag for these cans. Not worth the price in my opinion.
      Also this reminded me of the guy who had a pair of the green Krakens around his neck that I saw at Target on Black Friday while I was working. So goofy looking.

      I've come to experience is like this: gaming headsets will never satisfy audiophiles, BUT using audiophile grade headphones WILL benefit gameplay because these headphones are extremely detailed. Which means that you can hear and differentiate details in the audio spectrum and sound stage better, like footsteps, gunshots, grenade throws and their point of origin.

    • @NickBaysingar
      @NickBaysingar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mercy Studios I think that's maybe stretching things a little bit. It's not really about the quality, but more about positional audio. Obviously someone with a simulated 7.1 headset is going to have an advantage over someone with a standard stereo headset, since they can tell when someone is running up from behind them in games like CoD. Quality can make a difference, but not by that much. A higher end gaming headset provides more than enough fidelity for gaming. And you have to remember that the audio SOURCE matters too, not just the hardware. You could spend $10,000 on an audio system, but if you're playing MP3 files at 192kb/s, it's still going to sound like crap. Not all sound samples in games are going to be totally lossless and crisp. I'm sure developers compress a lot of stuff to keep the disk space requirements to a minimum. Sound effects add up real quick in disk space. Same goes for textures too.

    I have been using these headphones for a couple of years now, and I have compared them to more expensive headphones such as Shure and Bose headphones, to HiFi turntable speakers (using a great audiophile turntable from the late 70's, a Technics turntable, with its compatible equalizer amp system), to more popular headphones such as Marshall over ear headphones and obviously, the worst of them all, Beats headphones, and they do a really great job as long as you can use an equaliser! Their base tuning is meant for gaming, but these headphones are capable of reproducing a better sound than most audiophile headphones! It turned out to be better than any speaker plugged into my Technics turntable! (With the 6.35mm adapter) Therefore, this video isn't that good. The build quality is great indeed, but these headphones get scratched so easily, we can hear most sound waves from the outside, they're not really closed headphones, sound does get through them and they get quite loose with time, but they're comfortable, I literally spend over 10 hours straight wearing them. It does hurt my ears when my glasses slide off, but they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned or tried. I believe comparing headphones is not the right way to tell whether sound is good or not. The best way to do so is to compare them to turntables since they reproduce natural sounds and not digital sounds (digital sounds are not full, many sound waves are missing.)

    My thoughts waver in the light that sound staging isn't mentioned in this video, I grade my headphones for "GAMING" by its sound staging and clarity vs Bass or musical reproduction. With a Xonar doing my PC staging I want headphones producing a highly reliable sound stage for picking off gun shots, footsteps, and explosions for their directional assistance. Hear/See/Aim if you can do 2/3 of those, you can have a good game.

    I feel like, in reviewing a gaming product, you didn't go deep enough into how it performs. Sure gunfire and explosions sound great, but how does it handle footsteps and other, higher noises that alert you to enemy presence? What about for the non-FPS gamer? How does it sound for the usual gaming sfx? Is it clear, immersive? Is the 3D presentation and soundstage well-built? This isn't a purely music-marketed product, and you really can't treat it like one.

    I have the Razer Kraken Pro that I use on my laptop and phone. I also have the Razer Megalodon and Carcharias (non 2013 edition) and I love them. I also have the Corsair Vengeance 2100 now. The Kraken has very VERY good bass. For rock and harder hitting music they are amazing but for something like violins (Lindsey Stirling is an amazing mixture of both) they don't sound as good compared to others. I don't know how I feel about the forged edition but I know i'm not getting any unless I find them around half off in maybe 2 years.. Also i'm not an "audiophile" but I do love the sound of good music and can tell when something isn't tuned right or could be tuned better. I really wish the forged edition would've kept the retractable mic from the Razer Kraken Pro but maybe they'll have a Forged Pro Edition or something with that later..

    About the question asked at the end of the video, I maximum spent 253 USD (converted from my local currency) on a pair of Sennheiser's HD 598. I know there are much more expensive products out there, but on the high-end market, prices are overinflated and price to quality ratio is very bad. If you have buckets of money (I don't) and you have suppa-duppa ears, you can go for insanely expensive equipment for a bit extra quality, otherwise, I say I would rather go as high as maximum 400-500 USD on a pair of headphones (you also need good sources to power them as well and this involves more money).

    This new intro, even though it's pretty good, I very much feel like it isn't the LinusTechTips' cup of tea. Therefore I actually mute it - The first thing I hear that calm song it automatically reminds me of a very major, cold-hearted company. LinusTechTips is a collection of all of them, not only several major companies that paid Linus and gave him a script what to say. It's funny how a simple intro made me feel differently than what LTT actually is. I know that LTT is full of open-mindedness and that the forum community is very eager to help me like I'm their own, but that intro is just too cold for it to show any of that. It's supposed to be an *Intro*duction to the new people, and if it actually is, its not shining enough light on what LTT really has to offer. I don't know.. I'm just trying to write this but it's very difficult to explain... It just feels wrong to put that song in a LTT video.

      Well excuse me for having a thing for detail that is just too high for your 12 year old standards.

    *Discerning Audio snob here* - Great review, kind of already knew what you were going to say (They don't sound good and would be better if they were a headset). As long as Razer knew that they know that these headphones can't compete with headphones from the likes of real audio companies that have been around for over 25 years, that's good. If they were boasting that these sound better than anything close to their price range in terms of real headphones, I would have a problem.

    These look beautiful. Wish, as you said, that they were more for gaming.

    I have these Krakens and I love them! I use them mainly for gaming than listening to music but from what I have listen to they are still pretty damn good for the music I enjoy, plus I got them for $150 from a sale that Razer had going on and the build quality is amazing!

    Don't like the headphones but I do like your review. Good job on being realistic and telling your audience things they do consider and care about. +1 Subscriber

    Thank you for mentioning Razer's tone overall. I'm an audio junky but I'm looking for something with an attached mic. I like the construction/look of the Razer Blacksharks, is there anything in that range with a flatter tone and good mic. I'm thinking something under the $250 price range.
    I'm into classical heavily, 75% of what I listen to + a lot of Pink Floyd.

    razer Krakens earned my distrust with their earlier versions, dont really feel like trying out a headset almost 3 times the cost for the internals to fail , good review though.
