I've been painting pretty fervently for a bit over a year now, and that Dark Angel is not only a lot better than what I could achieve, that's flat out one of the most gorgeous Dark Angels I have ever seen.
Bro! Them lines are so clean. Nice blending on the second model you ever painted with a flawless gem no less?!?!? Crisp distinct transition between the foot and the horse armor! No way are you not cheating. Feasting on the blood of the Elder Gods I imagine.
Ohhhh GOD, the Finecast Liche Priest is giving me Vietnam flashbacks. I still have all of my old Tomb Kings models from 8th Ed, and that Priest model had so many bubble issues. Love how yours turned out! All these models look amazing, looking forward to seeing what else your eminence deigns to reveal to us peasants.

inspirational. how far you have come in 6 months is amazing. a rarely subscribe to youtube channels but i have to yours now. I've been back in the hobby for 8 months and im no where near your level. also please keep the videos coming I've watched three of them and they are all great.
This is a great video! What I really liked about it is the sheer variety of models you experimented, and consequently learned, with. Your natural talent is clear in the early models, but the value of persistent labour shows with each additional mini. I'm returning to mini painting after a break of about 20 years, and trying to relearn the skills I had as a teenager 30+ years ago. It's certainly not like riding a bike :)

Those were some great models! I love seeing older models getting painted up. Really enjoy collecting old Metal models for 40k. Personally how i like to prep them is by airbrush priming them, then i varnish after primer, then i do my painting before i give them a final varnish for then end. Keep up the good work, looking forward to see that next model you said was your best ever painted :)
@@anvilofdoomminiatures It might be a bit more pricey, but i would recommend Winsor & Newton varnish cans, the quality is unmatched and its never failed me so far. My personal favourite is the matte varnish they do, its my standard for my models
Great video, very inspiring. Pretty much the opposite of what I like to paint (grimdark 40k/kill team/necromunda) but so nice to see all those old models. Really makes me want to get some old metal minis and give it a try.

@@anvilofdoomminiatures ha to do the ol' try and fail a lot. Also the paints and other tools (like washes, shades, contrasts etc etc) have improved a lot over the years as well. The ranges, their covering abilities, and overall quality (not talking about the Corax White spray-can ofc) has become way better and makes it easier to achieve good results - especially for new painters!
Have to echo the sentiments in the comments; stupendous painting! Also definitely agree with the 40K bit, never quite grabbed me the way Fantasy does. Keep up the fantastic videos, always fun to see a new one pop up!
My very first miniature I painted was also that very same Wood Elves Archer. 9 Year old me didnt distinguish between face and hood though and it was an absolute mess. He later melted into plastic goo in Acetone. The second fig I painted was the Wood elves forest dragon but I was out of green and pale/pink skin colour so the entire dragon was painted in Enchanted Blue and the rider got a dark brown skin.😄
Whoa! 6 months and that reaver was your second model???? Wow. Though I have batch painted a bunch of spearmen and archers and that’s it from the HE - though I batch painted my whole hero quest set (plus expansions) and three armies so I’m very focussed on getting mass models on the table, and scenery too. Impressed with the 8th Ed stuff, there is a lot of detail on those, but intimidating!
Yeah man that was the second one and I spent ages on in 😂 It’s great to hear you can handle the batch painting! I wish I had that mindset 🙌 I’m jealous!
As an experienced painter of 30 years you saying you had a bit of trouble with all the colours makes it sound like you where either watering your paints down a little to much (creates a uneven streaky finish) or not quite enough (creates a uneven blotchy finish.) While this sound like mistakes, once you get to really into painting, creating uneven finishes to give parts of a model specific textures (like wind blown rain streaks or other weathering effects) can actually be really useful.

Try Necromunda gangs instead of 40k. I think they can be very 80s synthwave/vaporwave aesthetic and i assume that could be a FUN painting adventure for you too.

You really are a natural with minipainting, that's very impressive for the first 6 months. You have a nice classic style that works well with the classic miniatures you are mostly painting. Were you in the hobby back in the day as a kid or did you just naturally understand the superiority of the older models? ;)

Dude, how long are 6 months over there?! I've been painting for 6+2 years and couldn't showcase anything near such an impressive line up of models. Looks like you found your calling!
@Anvil of Doom Miniatures I find that isopropyl alcohol is great for plastic. It will require you to scrub the mini with a used toothbrush afterwards to get the paint off. Don't use that brush for cleaning teeth again. Leave the mini for 5 or 10 mins in the IPA, then scrub. If the paint is stubborn, put it back in and wait a bit longer. It won't remove 100 of the paint but 99.99%, some just stays oddly stubborn. Hope this helps.

Do you have a background in art/painting outside of painting miniatures? If not you seem to have picked it up astonishingly fast!

Don't repaint your Rune Priest. Keep him as a measure of your progress. Buy a second one and paint it. So 👍❤️
Be careful with acetone stripping as it will destroy the plastic base.
Yeah I definitely don’t put plastic anywhere near that stuff haha I still haven’t found a good plastic stripper. Let me know if you have any tips! 🙌
