When you go to the Edge, it all depends on what time are you going there. Sometimes on the weekends or during busy tourists times they will get you down with the fright elevator because there are too many people leaving. Lots of people go there for a sunset. This time of the year you get an amazing sunsets.
The bad reviews of Central Park Zoo are missing the point, it's a public park with a small zoo onsite, it's not supposed to be a world class zoo. For Chrissake, it only cost $15. If you want a super deluxe zoo experience, take a train ride up to the Bronx Zoo. Sheesh!
I think people may think it's bigger than it is because of the movies. I feel like the movies make it seem bigger than it is and if I didn't know better I would think it was bigger.
My family and I visited the zoo during our vacation and yes it is small but it was very enjoyable. I rarely put credence to customer reviews because they can be so petty. "the employee didn't greet ME so rude, I give them 1 star" You are not as important as you think you are.
Taipei's zoo is high quality and only $4. St. Louis has a free zoo and it is pretty decent. I would expect a lot if I paid $15. Actually it is $20. I checked the website.
I love the central park zoo. I can see all the highlights with my kids in about an hour, and move on to other NYC sites. I do think its overpriced for what you get at $20. We can go to the Staten Island zoo for free (AZA member) but its not nearly as convenient as the Central Park zoo
Hilarious Yelp comments! - and EXCELLENT video. Glad to see some humor in your mix - a welcome addition. And I love Santa's accent, that's definitely not North Pole.
I wonder if some of the crowd complaints were given by people visiting in the summer. I expect you had a slightly different experience in the fall when schools are back in session and tourism isn't at it's peak.
I went to The Edge this past summer on a Thursday afternoon, and had a great experience. Nice views, not very crowded, and had no issues with the staff. Great observation deck.
I went to The Edge a couple years back. I literally bought my ticket on the walk over there. I had no issues with lineups. Admittedly, it was my least favourite of all the observation decks I’ve been to (Summit, Top of the Rock and ESB), but it was mainly because of the western location. The glass floor is a little lacklustre, mainly because most of it is directly above another part of the building. It’d be better if it was mostly above the street. All that being said, it was still pretty nice.
The line situation was insane when I went. It was during the holidays and NYC is notoriously busy then. The glass floor is a bit lackluster, and it's so crowded with people taking a billion selfies. It's worth it for a first timer who really wants to experience an observation deck, but I'd never go through that line again. Maybe on a less traveled time of year
Taking a trip to NYC to see Blue Man Group NYC one last time (I’m a nerd for them) so I’m back to watching videos on this channel for things to do and not do.
I was visiting New York end of August 2024 and can not confirm any of the critizism for The Edge tbh 😮 I liked the view and loved the whole atmosphere atop because they were playing music and it was really chill Also I liked the view over midtown and especially the view of Madison Square Garden and into the bay area. Also I went to the Vessel afterwards (around 9:30pm) and they were public viewing the US open there and you could just join there for free. Would also recommend to walk highline park afterwards it was really nice
The little ones love The Central Park Zoo's Children's Zoo. And when they're a little older, they love the seals. The food could be healthier for sure.
Hey Johnny, in the colder months it's not too busy. In the warmer months it's packed. I'm talking about the Edge. I haven't been up there yet. I think people can be depressing sometimes and exaggerate stuff. I went to central park zoo when I was a kid. It was nice. Bronx Zoo is better lol 😆 🐿🦒🦥🐻🦭. That Christmas 🎄 attraction looks expensive 😅 and a tourist trap. Santa 🎅 was funny.
I went to the edge on the Wednesday before thanksgiving arriving around 11am and it wasn’t crowded views were spectacular and staff were great. Highly recommend it.
Love your channel, but the Edge line for me a couple years back was actually longer than the Yelp reviewer said. Maybe its died down now, but it was intense when I went mid December 2023. A long line to the top and even long line to leave. The top was so crowded and everything was so rushed. I feel like I wasted precious NYC hours standing in a line
My advice for the central park zoo? Ideally going when it's snowing. Most people will stay home, it's completely empty and quiet, no children in front of you as well. I went with my boyfriend around 2 pm a couple hours before they closed. Ther were MAYBE 5 people, all adults who were quiet and super respectful of the animals! All the animals are used to cold climates, and are extremely active trying to stay warm. Think arctic seals, brown bears, snow leopards and red pandas. And the indoor tropical birds area is a nice warm retreat from the cold. Plus, it's GORGEOUS.
I love the CPZ. I know the Bronx zoo gets all the hype but it's huge and can take an entire day or even two to explore. The CPZ is the perfect 2-3 hour attraction and a break from the hustle of Midtown.
We did the Edge and enjoyed all the different views of the surrounding area. Yes, that corner spot to take a picture had a very long line. But it was worth it in the end.
Buy the Go City pass. We had entry to the observation deck at Edge 1hr before general admission. There was no more than 30 people up by the time we left. We had no issues with photos or finding a toilet!
We went to Pier 15 Winter Wonder Land back in November 2022 and would have given it 0 stars if i had to review it. Tickets are time slots to stop it getting to busy what sounds great, but they was letting people in no matter what time slot they had so it was very over packed and you could not even get into the heated rooms to seat and order food. Never mind the thin walk ways between them was full of people. Sadly that first time would put me off ever trying it again unless a new company takes over the running of it.
on the observation deck: I think what also needed to be taken into consideration is the time of year these reviews were made and the experience of the tourist when they visited and mirror those times with a visit for a close to accurate experience ...was it during peak season or off peak season needs to be considered...also consider was the time video content was recorded? during off season and off peak times of day? Something to take into consideration when looking at reviews and taking things with a grain of salt.
Fact: People who don't like their experiences are far more likely to post their reviews than satisfied visitors. Any online reviews-- Yelp, Google, TripAdvisor, Amazon, and all the rest-- have to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Thanks for exposing these negative reviews as nothing more than disgruntled tourists having a bad day.
I guess the entry part to any attraction is about both luck and good planning. I was there on the fourth week of July '23, basically where the entire world has vacations for sure, and had no issues at all about entry lines for the edge, empire state, Rockefeller, natural history museum, MET, Brooklyn bridge was pleasantly walkable... We even got a free hotdog from Billy's since it was his very last and was leaving! Yes i did munch on John's and Sarah funk's videos 😅
hi jon. we really enjoyed meeting you in person at pier 15 with santa winter wonderland. was one of the highlights of the day. the food was not great. sent back chicken and chips because it was cold. at some point we didn't see you anymore. would have liked to report. maybe we will see you again next year in our beloved city. greetings from the netherlands. andrew and danielle
I have yet to visit the Edge. But I’ve been to the Central Park Zoo several dozen times in the last 25 years. Though I have been to 4 out 5 NYC zoos. And that Santa thing looks interesting. I’ll see if I can get the little woman to come.
The Edge is very much very long lines to get in and out- thats bc you went in daytime. Nighttime is when everyone wants to do these observation decks. I still enjoyed it as a 1-time sorta thing😂
When it comes to the Edge, time of day and time of year are huge factors. I went twice last year, once in early October on a Friday afternoon, and a few months later in mid-December on a late Sunday afternoon. October- Great. December- Awful. Despite having a sunset viewing reservation which costs extra, we didn't make it onto the deck until an hour after sunset. Staff had no idea what they were doing.
Went to the Christmas village last Saturday after a ride on the Sea Glass carousel in Battery park ($6). We paid a $19 entrance fee. We got a cup of hot chocolate, which was good. But there is not much to the place. It was very small and dull IMO. The santa pics are $15 per pic but, they will use your phone to take several pics as well if you choose not the buy their pics. We didn't eat because I found the prices to be expensive for what we saw coming out of the kitchen. Hard pass. We went to Chinatown and had an amazing dinner at Wo Hop on Mott street for $42 and that included large portions, 2 large appetizers and a large complimentary pot of hot tea. All with amazing service. Win win. I wouldn't waste my time, pretty boring.
The timing of your visit determines the amount of People. Correct me if I am wrong, but you seemed to have visited around 10am which is a time for smaller crowds as well as the start of some shifts for employees who have yet to go the full day of work to build up the attitude
4:00 Most of the reviews seemed to have to do with evening or other peak time viewing and nightlight view is properly more popular so should properly have went then to give a more fair comparison ie. go at a peak time. Also just because you didn't experience something doesn't make it a lie. For instance the bathroom signage could easily have changed especially given it was only a small movable sign.
Is it even Santa if he's not having a few cocktails? 😂 When I went to the Edge it absolutely did take forever to get up there. But that was 2020 and it was open just a couple of weeks
Could you make a video about the best candy, only available in the USA, everybody should try ? Or a "most popular" list, or your favorites or anything like that ?
General rule of thumb in nyc, IF there is a line, it is overrated and usually not worth it. But go see for yourself. Locals dont really wait in lines, so if there is a line its just tourist trap, not authentic NY

I hope you enjoyed your trip!
@HereBeBarr We had a great time, thank you. We'll definitely be back. You just can't get that kinda Pizza here. 😀
No way !!! I'm here now from England for 6 days! I'd love to meet jon i watched all is videos in preparation for this once in a lifetime trip !!

This video had an extra bit of satire that I loved
Thanks, always appreciate a comment from a fellow creator.
Hilarious Yelp comments! - and EXCELLENT video. Glad to see some humor in your mix - a welcome addition. And I love Santa's accent, that's definitely not North Pole.
yeah he told me was from Jersey.

Really enjoyed the format of this video! My partner and I have been watching since his 1st trip to NYC in 2022. Love your content!
Glad you guys enjoyed it!

Seeing the Edge from other vantage points in NYC is at least nice. It reminds me of the Avengers Tower for some reason.

Another great video, Jon! Happy Holidays! Loved the Florida Walmart on Black Friday analogy, lol!
best i could come up with.
Hilarious video! That Santa was the best 😂
Another great video, thanks Jon!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This should have WAY more views, hilarious video! And whoever edited this I need to hire you.
I loved this video! I laughed the whole time. Such a fun idea!
Thanks Hannah!
Ryan Trahan type beat
Yeah he's clearly a fan
Came to the comments to say this. The idea and even the intro is copy/paste from Ryan Trahan.
Your videos are always a joy! I’ll be in NYC in January. I hope I run into you and your lovely wife! I’ve been watching your videos for years!

The editing is awesome 🎯. Nice video
The question is who is writing these reviews? Competitors? Bots?
i think anyone whose angry about a spot can nit-pick if necessary.
@ that’s very true
I’m visiting NYC right now and was kinda hoping to see this guy haha, he’s help me a lot with my trip
Seen the theme done before, but your approach and satire was phenomenal. Laughed almost the entire video.
haah thanks Brent
Love your content keep up the great work ❤🔥
Thanks for watching.

Great video not only for content, but pacing / editing.
. . . Santa was the best! Thank you for a great holiday video!❤👍
Awesome video as always Herebebarr

Great video, giving me Rick Mercer vibes😅 Love from Toronto 🇨🇦
you should do a cheap eats for every major Manhattan neighborhood. flatiron is kinda hard!
Just got back from my first NYC trip a few days ago...my wife and I were soooo hoping to run into you! Maybe next time!

It's modernist and up to date on all amenities. You have views for days. Some people have zero perspective and can't just enjoy stuff.
@@shanekeenaNYC well said..
I am in love with your work! I assume those posts commenting on crowds and rats were during summer times which might be true.
I like the Ryan Trahan style!
This was such a good idea for a video 🎉
Loved the edge..went in September.. toilets easy to find..

Great idea to check the reviews.
Great post. It amazes how many people love to complain online
good job thanks for the info
How are you tony
All of those attractions are a ZOO if you show up on PRIME DAYS and PRIME TIMES .... being a NATIVE NEW YORKER, I know when to show up.
That Santa is definitely Artie Lange. I can hear it in his voice! Lol
lmao
that santa doesn't have a saddle nose like Artie
I have yet to visit the Edge. But I’ve been to the Central Park Zoo several dozen times in the last 25 years. Though I have been to 4 out 5 NYC zoos. And that Santa thing looks interesting. I’ll see if I can get the little woman to come.

hahah he's a Jersey guy like me.

8:42 - Your graphic only yellow-highlighted 2 and a half stars when the chap rated three and a half stars.
Yes, good catch! I didn't even notice that during the edit reviews.
Hello from Aoteroa New Zealand, we have high hills 😂 ❤ your show

Thd first two places looked great......The zoo for that price seems like an awesome deal.
Jon, great video. Recommend shortening the reviews for the next video, the first set dragged on for about 5 minutes.

There's 5 observation decks in NYC now, so that probably helps crowds tbh.
Nice Jon. But how come you didn’t bring Adrianana and your little girl with you to the last place? 😂
Reviews are some times a way of people being mean and vengeful or just a way of being honest. Great video good insight
You met Santa Pesci!

eating pizza and chicken wings & having one of those body armors, not bad
Is it even Santa if he's not having a few cocktails? 😂
When I went to the Edge it absolutely did take forever to get up there. But that was 2020 and it was open just a couple of weeks
2020 it opened for like 2 weeks before the pandemic shut it down. I went opening day.
I live close to St Louis. Our zoo is free and phenomenal. I think the NY zoo won’t be a stop we make on our trip.
Brothers blind after 1 shot of rum In the hot chocolate😂
Could you make a video about the best candy, only available in the USA, everybody should try ? Or a "most popular" list, or your favorites or anything like that ?
lol. Why does the Walmart have to be in Florida???? Awesome video, as usual.
Just came to mind haha.
When did you go the edge? Feels like timing probably matters alot to a lot of those reviews.
11 AM on a week day
What’s the best hot chocolate in the city?
I used to go to that zoo and we used to have great times in their
You should visit famous hotels to visit at 6 am
Is that Sal at 3:13 from IP. Sure looks and sounds like him.
General rule of thumb in nyc, IF there is a line, it is overrated and usually not worth it. But go see for yourself. Locals dont really wait in lines, so if there is a line its just tourist trap, not authentic NY
Maybe a different time liek night be more pack?
5:34
Readers added context: it was Marty the zebra who wanted to leave the Central Park zoo not Alex the lion.
this format looks suspiciously like some other younger youtubers do.
DISNAY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM doesn't sell/permit balloons in the park and many other zoos may NOT balloons inside for safety reasons for the animals !
Do you feel you would get a much more friendly experience having a camera film you as opposed to just going normally?
They didn't know what we were doing, we were unannounced. I don't think that affected anything.
I had no issues when I visited The Edge and the Central Park Zoo. Some of these reviews seem like bots.
Did you mean you thought you saw "penguiquins" at the Central Park Zoo?
Ugh. I never heard of that Christmas "attraction". If people want to experience the beauty of the Brooklyn Bridge, they should go to the Brooklyn side. As I recall, there were a lot of good places to eat. I'm sorry, but that Santa was creepy.
man that last place what a cash grab!
People need to learn to take ALL reviews with a grain of salt. Good, or bad, people love to lie just because they can do what ever they want hiding behind a screen
Going in the winter to a tourist attraction is obviously going to be less busy than the summer???
Actually after thanksgiving until Xmas is extremely busy
I would ask the woman who was in that holiday spot with her young child----why were you not at home on Christmas Eve, with a nice tree and making Christmas for your child? Seriously, you have nothing better to do on Christmas eve? Especially with a young child?
is Santa Alan "The Homie"?🤔
This man wants to be Ryan trahan
ryan vibes
Baarr 😃
I'll never understand why you would wait in line/pay money to view NYC. You're better off just checking out the city by walking it.
I mean it is a different perspective up high as opposed to walking down in it, but yeah, rather spendy😅
0:21 You visit the most visited city in the world and you're surprised you have to wait in a queue? What did you expect?
For Edge they have a special entry ticket to bypass any lines if it's at a busy time it would really pay off to purchase an express ticket.
