The program I used is called FamiTracker, and it writes music for the NES. I'm not sure what he used, but the Genesis has much different audio hardware than the NES did, and FT only appeared in the 2000s, so I doubt it was this. But whether it was a tracker, I couldn't say.
CamStudio. It's a free screen-recorder for Windows. I didn't spend too long messing with the codecs, so I create overly-huge files for the recordings, but I don't mind.
You need to either (a) mute the channel at some point, either with note cuts or the Sxx effect; or (b) set up an instrument that changes pitch and/or volume through the note, like I have on the noise snare. I have an FTM linked on my "Streets of Rage 2 With Half the Bits" video, which is the name of the whole covered soundtrack. Definitely check that out.
Sorry to bother you again, but how are you getting the same notes to play in the noise channel multiple times? (And the square channels, for that matter.) I know it's a dumb question, but whenever I try doing that it just sounds like one long note. I've screwed around with the settings and whatnot but nothing I try seems to work. I'm kind of at my wit's end here, but I'm sure I'm just being really dumb and missing something obvious.
Perfect 8-bit rendition! Just wonderful!
I love this project and I love this song. Great job.

Love it!! What software is this just out of curiosity? It sounds and even LOOKS its the original that mr. Koshiro would have probably used
Good to know!
