Sir Chuck, most of these songs aren't really copies. It's quite common in the industry for a composer/producer to sell their tunes to others especially if they exclusively own the tunes. This is what people needs to understand. In fact, a lot of KPop songs were made that way. For example, the tune for SNSD's Run Devil Run was actually purchased from its own composer (it was actually reserved for a famous American singer).
Now for Japanese songs, they actually do this because well, back then people really cannot speak/understand Japanese so it was hard for Japanese songs to get popular worldwide, (there was internet but it was not as global-oriented as today) hence, it's difficult to maximize profits, so there's not really a problem selling the tunes and melodies.
This is why I call people who call SB19 "copycats" as hypocrites. Because licensing is more complicated than people think. Composers CAN sell their tunes and melodies to other countries because music labels sometimes license particular songs in a country-wide scope (this involves governmental laws which can be different from country to country), it's the same way how you cannot watch certain shows on Netflix depending on the country you're in.
It isn't until lately when more global labels have appeared (believe me, if these labels haven't yet struck a deal with international organizations, then they sure as hell worked hard visiting country to country to legalize their labels).
SONY MUSIC itself is very particular on this. The GITZ album is from a different label (I think) but all the songs there are properly credited and licensed. That aside, everything from Pagsibol onwards, will most probably be self-composed or self-produced if not properly licensed/bought. And nobody can fault anyone for that, it's how the industry's been working since forever.

Kaya what is the point of bashing? Let us all spread love, positivity at world peace. 💙💙💙💙💙

This is great! Yes, for discovery purposes and FYI 😂. Nice one, Chuck!
I knew about some of the songs. Some, new discoveries. I assume all these songs went through proper legal proceedings from both labels.
Hahaha bragging time✌️✌️. I knew about April boy and April boys. Some songs they sang, I used to listen to the original songs. Toni's, we still sing the original song during Videoke nights. Donna Cruz's, I still listen to both original and translated. I listened to another one she sang that was translated from an English song. Not sure if it's hers first or it's translated for her. I also knew about Regine's, she actually mentioned it in one of her GGV guestings, she said the language it was from wrongly though but the thought was there. Andrew E's too. I could say I recognized more or less half of the original songs and listened to them once upon a time.
I think there was a time in the industry that translating songs from different languages was a hit trend. Same as making covers of popular songs and compile them in albums. Could be wrong but that's what I'm thinking now.

OMG!!! HAHAHA!!! Chuck, where did you get those? Of course sa Google?!!! Grabe, ang tyaga mo talaga! Anyway, I think I heard some of those songs sang mostly by Japanese Singers which had some similarities from our OPM Songs. Before then, I thought & asked myself, which one is the original? I don't even know if those are legal & accepted during 80s, 90s, & early 2000s. Actually, before, Its not Our OPM Singers Fault, their Record Label Agencies, Composers, &/or Lyricists are the Ones who are Making those Songs for Them. So it Means, Hindi Na Bago Ito Sa OPM Music Industry. Sana Maintindihan Ito ng Ibang Tao na Hindi Alam, Especially the Gen Z or Millenials! SLMT Chuck👌

Being a broadcaster on FM radio back in the day, I was exposed to a lot of similar sounding songs. There’s Truefaith’s “Shotgun Baby Bang Bang” that sounds like Railway Children’s “Another Town.” Martin Nievera’s “Pain” and Dan Siegel’s “Great Expectations.” Even Rico Puno’s “Kartada Diyes” borrows some harmonies and hooks from Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.” Did SB19 get the inspiration for the “lataratara” part from “Chanson d’Amour” by the Fontaine Sisters? Hard to say but these similarities cannot be avoided. After all, there are only a handful of musical notes available. The greats like Elvis, Beatles all copied from other artists. As long as there’s inspiration in the world, this will continue to occur. I do hope though that the original artists get royalties 😊

For SB19 it's La Tara Tara , for Manhattan Transfer, it's rataratara and they don't even have the same melody. If at all, Pablo wrote it without knowing that there's a song with rataratara portion in it and I don't think Pablo heard the song of Manhattan Transfer, I would like to believe that it's a coincidence...but those songs featured in this video have the same melody, not just a minute sound but the whole song's melody was copied.

I've been listening to Filipino singers for the last 10 years and I often think that some Filipino song melodies sound like songs I've heard before, but I can't place them. Most recently, Lani Misalucha's *Tunay Na Mahal* , starting at almost the one minute mark, makes me think I heard the melody in movie soundtrack, maybe a European, film, I'm not sure. Others, like *Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin* , which is a beautiful song, sound quite original.

BOOM! Lots of the songs featured here, I thought they're OPM. How? Gosh, I feel betrayed?😅 How were these legalized? Now I'm curious..I have lots of favorites here. Huhuhu
I do feel when Im listening to a variety of music that there are some similarities. And here in our place, there are local cds where the local artists here translated the songs and reproduced them. They're played by van drivers.
And wow! We took a lot from the japanese. I knew First Love is originally japanese after i heard the First Love pinoy remix version.
Still this revelation in not 1 but 33 songs? I'm shocked! And Ignorant! What do I do now when I hear these songs again?
But yeah, foreign movies and series are even localized since before so I guess even in music. Just that the originals/origins are not being given due credit.

Galing mo talaga mag-research. True. People who react so negatively to SB 19 should look into the fact that compositions like these have "escaped" the public eye back then- and the resemblances are startling. It's a different matter when the company "buys" or pays for the copyright of a composition from another artist or composer, which happens to the BEST artists out there in the US and KOREA and everywhere else- including the initial songs performed by SB19- these are LEGIT. But what CAsualChuck is pointing out is that the COMPOSITIONS OWNED by other artists featured in this video, which resemble those of other artists (mostly from Japan) have been used without the knowledge of these composers themselves who STILL OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO THEIR MUSIC AND DID NOT SELL THEM TO THE ARTISTS TRANSLATING OR RE-LABELLING the music as their own.
Like I always say, if PRACTICE won't betray anyone who's into the PPop business (as SB19 says) RESEARCH WON'T BETRAY SOMEONE WHO DOES IT RIGHT.
      CasualChuck deserves our respect. ^_^

Kaya nga I supported SB19 from start kasi puro original songs nila.

Kag Big company at may local branch sa atin, puwedeng imarket ang song dito through Tagalized or English version. Idagdag pa natin iyong Sana Kahit Minsan ni Ariel Rivera (Chinese song ang orig) or even Italian or Spanish songs, inaadopt or kinocover din dito sa Pilipinas.

      @xaxierxerxes4563 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree
