I dont know if this comment reaches anyone relevant but I just wish and hope that these women understood how much they mean to me and so many other women all over the world. Keep doing what youre doing its a heavy load but youre carrying it graciously.
Can we not aim this as men thinking this, becuase as a man, who in the blindly convinced can be seen as so man, and had manly jobs etc as in the bullshit, not me thinking as such. The stupid thick individuals, that write bullshit, do not speak or even considered apart of us. They are warfare that we need not women, we becuase as a society I want this and everyone should becuase for you to even have a voice or thought, you had to have been conceived by who, oh a god a woman. So when you see or read or even think men think this, no, no we fucking don't. We don't count these thick stupid individuals as our own. It's weird, I go to a progressive university where we were told about this group about four months ago. When asked who has heard of this group, nobody raised their hand. Hmm.
Well, everyone in the art world knew who they were 30 years ago because they were a fresh voice and offered a compelling look. Their image and approach has not developed much over the 30+ years, and while the issues they set out to address remain, today the art world attraction and interest is largely nostalgic and retrospective.
Thanks for this; the Guerrilla Girls are terrific with their humour, immaculate sense of design and sloganeering and their provocations. Sadly, the statistics on the increase in exposure of female artists / minority artists do not correlate with the wonderful campaigns, publicity and other projects these masked guerrillas have tirelessly given to the public. But they persist...
@@someperson4819 women have always found a way to paint and scribble and sculpt if it pleases them. Its often encouraged, since it is a quiet and ornamental and therefore feminine occupation. Many have made livings doing so, historically. That has never been in question. It is the exclusion of their work from the higher echelons of culture that is being pointed out. You seem to be saying "who cares what medium or space you occupy - all that matters is you have an audience". But this video also points out that certain mediums and spaces will have more impact on culture then others, regardless of the number of people affected, and that women are being excluded from holding this sway.
It's the same reason that men are chefs and women are cooks. Men are artists, and women do crafts. It's the expected tasks vs. the skilled hobbyist. Women are supposed to create; the men who do it (especially when they do it well) are unforeseen geniuses.
Meh. Not a more creaky analogy than the emperor's new clothes. Material reasons why there were so many more influential male artists in the 20thC are a) many more male students in art academies, b) greater freedom of males to travel, absorb influences outside of home, c) competitiveness was expected of men, which in the art world translates to rejecting the form-sense or process of one's teachers. Women artists more often strived to be the most ardent follower of a particular big name male teacher (until the '60s). All of these behaviors/expectations vestiges of an earlier, more hierarchical culture that BOTH men and women were (and remain so) nostalgic for. Point is, don't discount the real advances in thinking within the visual arts by male artists based on a lazy generalization about societal bias against women's creative work. There isn't a hidden female Picasso, an unrecognized female Duchamp, an unheard of female Warhol, etc., and there aren't because of the real societal trends/biases listed above.
It's funny how many males are disagreeing with this. If you don't like it then don't watch it's that simple. The comments they have made are completly useless and do nothing! And to the people that are like "I prefer the old art" "Where's (artist) and (artist) now, I miss their work" are also quite silly. Everything changes over time, including art. :))

The Snow Nigro So I guess you prefer more Italian Renaissance art than any other type of art in history? Which is completely fine, I think their art was really great especially Da Vinci, but most of it was too idealized and empty for me. Amazing, but not my personal favorite. But I don’t think these people are degenerating art, if anything if you prefer Renaissance classicism then Art has already been degenerated due to the many art movements that have fought against idealism, classicism, and art that upper classes wanted. There are a lot of art movements I don’t like, but the thing is that all these movements are just going to move art forward instead of keeping it stagnated. There will be controversy and new styles that come from all of this stuff which is typical throughout the entirety of art history. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, sure not everybody is going to like it but change is inevitable.

Which is completely fine, I think their art was really great especially Da Vinci, but most of it was too idealized and empty for me. Amazing, but not my personal favorite.
